Social media reacts to Travis Hunter returning from injury for Colorado-Stanford

Two-way star Travis Hunter is officially back for the #cubuffs. How big of a game does he have tonight?

Colorado football’s most talented player on both sides of the ball is back in uniform.

After suffering a lacerated liver in Week 3 and sitting out the Buffs’ next three games, two-way star Travis Hunter is starting on Friday night against the Stanford Cardinal. It’s currently unknown how many snaps head coach Deion Sanders will allow, but Hunter is set to see the field for the first time in nearly a month.

The sophomore cornerback/wide receiver was previously expected to be out through Colorado’s bye week.

Buffaloes fans were, of course, thrilled to see their star back healthy.

Here’s how social media reacted to Hunter’s return from injury:

Colorado at Arizona State: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Saturday

Don’t get the Pac-12 Network? Here’s how you can stream Colorado-Arizona State:

Unfortunately, Colorado football’s string of nationally televised games to begin the Deion Sanders era will end on Saturday. The Buffaloes’ Week 6 matchup at Arizona State is set to be televised on the Pac-12 Network.

This will be one of the final (if not the final) times Colorado plays on the Pac-12 Network, though, with the Buffs and Sun Devils joining the Big 12 in 2024.

Entering Saturday, Colorado sits 3-2 (0-2 Pac-12) while first-year head coach Kenny Dillingham’s Sun Devils are 1-4 and also in search of their first conference win.

If you don’t get the Pac-12 Network, below is information on how you can stream Colorado-Arizona State:

Why returning to the Big 12 is right for Colorado

Returning to the Big 12 is the right move for Colorado

Entering its 13th season in the Pac-12, Colorado has decided that enough is enough and it will be reportedly making the move to return home to the Big 12.

Realignment rumors have been running rampant ever since Deion Sanders was named head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team, and I’ll take some credit for bringing up a move to the Big 12 last July. This is mainly because CU football is once again an appealing program for other conferences. Plus, the mismanagement of the Pac-12 Conference essentially forced the Buffs out.

The Buffaloes could no longer sit and wait for a Pac-12 media rights deal that has been promised for months, and CU will hopefully make things official with the Big 12 on Thursday. Here is why the move to the Big 12 makes sense for CU:

Quick recap: Defensive issues exposed in CU Buffs’ loss to Arizona State

RECAP: The #cubuffs couldn’t overcome a rough start in their loss to Arizona State

Arizona State was a beatable opponent.

That was the consensus until about five minutes into Saturday evening’s tilt when it became clear that the Sun Devils’ size advantage was an obstacle too large for Colorado in its 42-34 loss.

Poor tackling was the most glaring issue and one that ultimately allowed ASU’s offense 557 total yards, including 10 plays for over 20 yards. And while JT Shrout’s offense had its moments, the Buffs’ rough defensive night has Colorado staring at a 1-7 record (1-2 under interim head coach Mike Sanford).

From the moment Xazavian Valladay scored on ASU’s opening drive, Colorado played from behind, trailing by as few as four points in the second quarter to as many as 22 in the fourth.

The Buffs did, however, have a respectable comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. Deion Smith, who rushed for a career-high 111 yards, punched in a late touchdown, and Jordyn Tyson returned a punt 88 yards into the endzone. But all of that was for naught as the Buffs couldn’t get another stop on D.

In his second consecutive start, JT Shrout threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns, although his 38% passing embodied a continued issue. His most impressive moment came late in the second quarter when he hit Jordyn Tyson for a 58-yard touchdown on the run.

Colorado now looks ahead to a brutal month of November, starting with Oregon next Saturday.

Colorado football recruiting: Three-star CB Jordan Shaw taking official visit during Homecoming weekend

Jordan Shaw is an intriguing official visitor the Buffs are hosting this weekend

In addition to a slew of prospects taking unofficial visits, the Colorado Buffaloes will host two 2023 recruits on official visits during Homecoming weekend: cornerback Jordan Shaw and Arizona commit Rhino Tapaatoutai, an offensive tackle.

Unless the Buffs are able to steal Tapaatoutai from an improving Wildcats program, Shaw’s visit is the most intriguing to me.

Shaw is currently the No. 51 cornerback nationally in his class per 247Sports and has already taken visits to Colorado State and San Jose State. During his junior season at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in California, the three-star recruit racked up seven interceptions, eight pass deflections and over 1,000 receiving yards in 14 games played.

247Sports analyst Greg Biggins had some encouraging words on Shaw (h/t BuffStampede):

“He’s one of the most under-recruited players in the region and has the talent to play for just about anyone out West,” Biggins wrote on Shaw. “When you look at his on-field production and his explosive play making ability on both sides of the ball, he’s someone we thought would be among the more coveted players in the state.”

Buffs extend offer to fast-rising Colorado State commit Damian Henderson

The Buffs are looking to steal a commit from their rivals to the north

It’s late October and the Colorado Buffaloes remain hard at work on the recruiting trail, giving a scholarship offer to a running back that’s been having a great second half of his senior season — and possibly shaking up his college decision in the process.

Damian Henderson, a 2023 three-star running back at Los Alamitos High School (CA) received an offer from Colorado on Thursday night.

Henderson committed to Colorado State back in August, but his great stretch lately has elevated his recruiting interests.

Henderson, who rushed for roughly 800 yards and 11 touchdowns in a three-game stretch against three of the better teams in the talent-rich Southern California area, told 247 Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins that multiple other programs have also expressed interest, including San Diego State, Oregon and UCLA

Now, the Buffaloes have made their interest official with the scholarship offer to the fast-rising back.

It remains to be seen if the Buffs can pry Henderson away from Colorado State, but with the early signing period being two months away on Dec. 21, CU certainly has time to make an impression on Henderson.

Henderson would provide a much-needed boost to the Buffaloes’ running game, and his versatility makes him an intriguing option. Henderson has good speed and surprising power on inside runs, a welcome trait for the 6-foot-3, 185-pound running back.

While things could certainly improve on the field for the Buffaloes, an addition of a player like Henderson may start to turn the tide as Colorado looks ahead to the post-Karl Dorrell era.

Will he decommit from the Rams? That remains to be seen.

But for now, the Buffs have inserted themselves into an intriguing recruiting battle, one where they’ll try to beat out their rivals from Fort Collins.

Quick recap: Turnovers, missed opportunities cost CU Buffs in loss to Oregon State

Colorado’s performance was an odd mix of encouraging play and complete carelessness

You could describe the Buffaloes’ performance at Oregon State as an odd mix of encouraging play and complete carelessness.

After Colorado fell behind 14-0 early, the Buffs never fully recovered, despite creating a few pristine scoring opportunities. Interim head coach Mike Sanford came into this game believing the outcome would be determined in the turnover department, and he was correct as his offense lost the rock four times — two fumbles and two interceptions — in a 42-9 loss.

The Buffs fell to 1-6 (1-3 Pac-12) while the Beavers became bowl eligible at 6-2 (3-2).

JT Shrout was given the start for CU in place of the injured Owen McCown and the Tennessee transfer finished 13-of-29 for 206 yards, a good deal of which came late. In addition to being off-target on several passes early in the game, he was also hurt by dropped passes from multiple Buffs receivers. The lowlight of Shrout’s night came at the start of the third quarter when he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

Jayle Stacks, the Buffs’ leading rusher, scored Colorado’s lone touchdown in the third quarter from one yard out.

Colorado’s defense was physically overmatched by Oregon State and its running back Damien Martinez, who rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns. The Beavers were 7-of-11 on third downs, 4-of-5 scoring in the red zone and totaled 472 yards, to name a few key stats.
