‘College GameDay’ announces locations for first-round of CFP

ESPN’s “College GameDay” will attend two different campuses for the first round of the College Football Playoff

ESPN’s “College GameDay” will be attending two first-round games of the College Football Playoff. GameDay plans to attend the Indiana Hoosiers at Notre Dame Fighting Irish game on Friday, Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. ET. The crew will be another show from the Tennessee Volunteers at Ohio State Buckeyes game on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 9 a.m. ET.

This weekend will be a treat for college football games. Friday and Saturday have four first-round playoff games that will all be hosted from college campuses.

The first of the four first-round games is Notre Dame versus Indiana at 8:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 20. Next will be a trio of games of on Saturday starting with SMU at Penn State at noon, then Clemson at Texas at 4:00 p.m. ET and finally Tennessee at Ohio State at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Oregon, Georgia, Boise State and Arizona State all have byes in the first round of the playoff after winning their respective conferences.

GameDay most recently attended the SEC championship between Georgia and Texas in Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia won in the SEC championship’s first ever overtime game with a walk-off touchdown.

GameDay will begin coverage from South Bend, Indiana, at 3:30 p.m. ET on Friday and at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday from Columbus, Ohio (ESPN). Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee all serve as college football analysts for GameDay.

‘College GameDay’ Week 16 location

Will ESPN’s “College GameDay” attend the Army versus Navy game this Saturday?

ESPN’s “College GameDay” will not be attending the the Army Black Nights versus Navy Midshipmen game or any other college football game in Week 16. The Army-Navy game is college football’s regular season finale and has the weekend to itself (outside of the Celebration Bowl and Veterans Bowl).

Army versus Navy will be played in the Washington Commanders’ stadium, Northwest Stadium, on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3:00 p.m. ET. Army (11-1) and Navy (8-3) are both having outstanding seasons and the Army-Navy rivalry is the best in college football (sorry Ohio State-Michigan, Army and Navy know good sportsmanship).

The Army-Navy game will be televised on CBS. ESPN’s matchup predictor gives Army a 65.9% chance to win.

It is always understandable that GameDay does not want to attend a neutral site game. However, last week GameDay attended the No. 5 Georgia versus No. 2 Texas game in the SEC championship in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia won in the SEC championship’s first ever overtime game.

GameDay attended 10 games with at least one SEC team this season, which is more than any other conference. GameDay attended the Army-Navy game every season from 2014-2021, but has not attended an Army-Navy game for three straight seasons.

GameDay did announce where it will be for the first-round of the College Football Playoff. The crew plans to attend the Notre Dame versus Indiana game on Friday, Dec. 20 and then the Ohio State versus Tennessee game on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Georgia should be featured in two College GameDay matchups this year

Georgia football could very well be featured in these two College GameDay matchups.

UGA fans often cringe when they hear “Georgia” and “College GameDay” in the same sentence, with many members of DawgNation believing that ESPN’s flagship gameday show is accompanied by some bad luck.

Then there’s the fans who love the idea of the Bulldogs being featured on national television ahead of playing in the weekend’s biggest game. That’s the category I fall into, and likely you do too.

Georgia should have an opportunity to be featured in two College GameDay matchups this year. Neither, however, would take place in Athens.

FootballScoop predicted where College GameDay would be visiting each weekend of the 2021 season, and has the show visiting Charlotte, North Carolina on opening weekend, where Georgia will be playing Clemson.

This one’s a no-brainer. We’ll be watching two top-five rivals duke it out on the first weekend of the college football season. Does it get better than that?

Go ahead and write this one in ink. This is the biggest opening week game since No. 1 Alabama met No. 3 Florida State in 2017 and, given what that FSU team would turn into, probably longer than that. Clemson’s 38-35 win over No. 5 Georgia was a major part of the Clemson rivalry’s origin story, and now Kirby Smart will look to return the favor.

NEXT: Georgia should be featured this weekend as well…
