College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Alabama vs. Tennessee

Will it be the Crimson Tide or the Volunteers in this top-10 SEC matchup?

The Crimson Tide travel to Knoxville for a high-level ranked-ranked matchup as No. 3 Alabama squares off against No. 6 Tennessee. This is a huge game for the Vols as they haven’t beaten Saban & Co. since 2006 (that’s 15 straight for the Tide for those keeping track at home).

Both teams are undefeated. Both teams have quarterbacks with Heisman Trophy aspirations. Alabama QB Bryce Young didn’t play last week against Texas A&M due to a shoulder injury sustained against Arkansas, but he’s expected to start against Tennessee.

Alabama is favored by 8.5 points, despite being the road team and not looking as dominant so far this season.

ESPN College GameDay’s Lee Corso was back on the show after missing a couple with an illness, and he returned with a bang. “I’ve been sick. Give me Tennessee,” Corso said with a grin before putting on the Smokey mascot head.

All of the panelists chose Tennessee to pull off the upset, minus Kirk Herbstreit.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Florida vs. Tennessee

Lee Corso is going with the Volunteers this week.

The ESPN College GameDay crew traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee for Week 4, posting up before the No. 11 Volunteers host the No. 20 Florida Gators. Tennessee is looking to improve to 4-0 on the season with a win over No. 17 Pittsburgh already on its resume.

Florida is 2-1 with both a ranked win (over No. 7 Utah), a ranked loss (to No. 20 Kentucky) and a win over South Florida in 2022. The Gators are looking for a pivotal SEC East win to counterbalance the 0-1 conference start, but the Vols are trying to keep pace with Georgia and Kentucky atop the standings.

Florida heads into Neyland Stadium as 10.5 point underdogs per Tipico Sportsbook, but Lee Corso went with the favorite this week:

Hopefully someone will let Smokey relax for a little bit before the game. So many noises and so much confetti.

College GameDay: Lee Corso picks favored ‘giant killers’ Appalachian State over Troy

Lee Corso isn’t picking against Appalachian State.

College GameDay switched things up this week and landed in Boone, North Carolina for Appalachian State’s Week 3 matchup against Troy after the Mountaineers took down Texas A&M last week. And it looked like a blast.

App State fans showed up big time and seemingly bought out all the posters in Boone just for the occasion. It was a big day that also included three students winning free tuition.

And then when it came time to make picks for the day, Lee Corso didn’t dare pick against the Mountaineers, some of the best agents of chaos in all of college football. They’re 14.5-point favorites over the Trojans, per Tipico Sportsbook.

“It’s the home of the giant killers, the App State Mountaineers,” Corso said.

“Troy, no chance. Troy, no chance,” he added while putting on App State’s mascot’s head.

We here at For The Win usually recommend not picking against App State, ever, so good for Corso.

Corso also went with Miami over Texas A&M for his super dog pick, Arizona over North Dakota State, Cal over Notre Dame, Penn State over Auburn, Mississippi State over LSU, Oklahoma over Nebraska, Michigan State over Washington, USC over Fresno State and BYU over Oregon.

College GameDay: See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for Michigan vs. Minnesota

GameDay was at the Michigan-Minnesota game for the Big Ten’s opening weekend.

ESPN’s College GameDay spent a brisk — like, temperatures in the mid-20s kind of brisk — Saturday morning in Minneapolis ahead of No. 21 Minnesota’s home game against No. 18 Michigan.

Although it’s technically Week 8 of the college football season, it’s the Big Ten’s season-opening weekend, and, with only eight regular-season games in eight weeks, this matchup is a big one.

During the Golden Gophers’ impressive 11-2 2019 season, GameDay visited Minnesota for the first time, and now it’s back for a second appearance in 13 shows.

But while the GameDay crew was dealing with some chilly weather, Lee Corso continued broadcasting from his “home” studio in Orlando. And he has faith in Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines, who are slight 3-point favorites over Minnesota, and put on a giant Michigan helmet.

And perhaps that’s fair because Corso said Minnesota hasn’t beaten Michigan at home in 43 years, and Michigan as won 20 of the last 21 played in Minnesota. However, as ESPN noted, Harbaugh’s team has been on the road for its last seven GameDay features, and the Wolverines have lost every time.

Vince Vaughn was the guest picker, and he went with the Golden Gophers.

Corso also picked No. 25 Coastal Carolina over Georgia Southern, No. 14 North Carolina over No. 23 NC State, Auburn over Ole Miss, LSU over South Carolina, No. 2 Alabama over Tennessee, No. 3 Notre Dame over Pitt, Texas over Baylor, Oklahoma over TCU, No. 17 Iowa State over No. 6 Oklahoma State and No. 16 SMU over No. 9 Cincinnati — and the Mustangs’ mascot jumped in Corso’s pool after that pick.

And for the rest of the Big Ten’s opening weekend, he went with Indiana over No. 8 Penn State and No. 5 Ohio State over Nebraska. Led by redshirt freshman quarterback Graham Mertz and No. 14 Wisconsin beat Illinois on Friday night.

See Lee Corso’s headgear pick for the LSU-Clemson national championship game

Lee Corso is going with the Tigers!

For the final time of the 2019-20 college football season, Lee Corso put on his headgear to predict the winner of a game. ESPN’s College GameDay crew was in New Orleans on Monday night for the College Football Playoff national championship game between No. 1 LSU and No. 3 Clemson, and Corso is going with the Tigers (obviously).

As Corso and the GameDay group noted, he previously put on LSU’s tiger headgear four times this season when the Tigers played Texas in September, Florida in October, Alabama in November and Georgia in the SEC championship game in December. And each time, Corso picked correctly as LSU enters the title game with a perfect 14-0 record — just like Clemson.

“I’ve put the tiger head [on] four times,” Corso said during ESPN’s pregame broadcast. “The Tigers have won four times. I see no reason to change. Give me that LSU Tiger!”

Corso is picking LSU over Clemson in the battle of the Tigers from Death Valley. LSU is a 4.5-point favorite.

Hilariously, he also made this pick while sitting next to Alabama coach Nick Saban, whose team did not make the playoff for the first time since the postseason format began in 2014.
