Clemson remains the top dog in the ACC with a statement win over NC State

Clemson makes a statement with a huge College GameDay win over NC State.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers hosted NC State for ESPN’s College GameDay and did not disappoint their fans.

Clemson made a statement Saturday night with a 30-13 win over Dave Doeren and NC State. Though things were close in the first half, the Tigers dominated the Wolfpack in the second half giving everyone a look at why they’re considered the best team in the ACC and one of the best in the country.

On offense, starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei proved once again that he is a different player this season, putting together another excellent performance. The junior quarterback completed 21-30 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown through the air while having a big night on the ground. Uiagalelei ran the ball 14 times for 73-yards ad two touchdowns as he continues to show people why he’s Clemson’s starting quarterback.

The score may not show it, but Clemson’s defense was dominant against NC State’s offense, particularly on the line. The Tigers’ defensive line proved too much for the Wolfpack’s offensive line, repeatedly causing issues for NC State starting quarterback Devin Leary.

The unit held NC State’s offense to just 34 yards on the ground as they continue to make teams one-dimensional. The defense allowed just 279 total yards in the game.

This win was a massive statement for the Tigers as NC State entered the game with a lot of hype surrounding the group.

Clemson will head to Boston College Saturday, October 8th, for an in-conference matchup next week.

Christian Wilkins choices to win as ESPN’s College GameDay guest picker

Here are the teams Christian Wilkins picked to win as ESPN’s College GameDay guest picker.

Former Clemson defensive lineman and now Miami Dolphins Christian Wilkins was ESPN College GameDay’s choice to be the guest picker for No.5 Clemson’s College GameDay matchup with rival No.10 NC State.

Wilkins rode with his former team, picking the Tigers (4-0, 2-0 ACC) to take down the Wolfpack (4-0, 0-0) tonight at 7:30 in Clemson Memorial Stadium. The former three-time All-American and national champion let everyone know exactly how he felt this game would play out.

“This is a game he (Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei) puts college football on notice and lets everybody know he’s for real,” Wilkins said. “I think the defense is going to be on it tonight. Dave Doeren and NC State, they’ve been our little brothers in the ACC for as long as I’ve been around. They struck lightning last year. Lightning’s not going to strike twice.”

While Desmond Howard was on board with Wilkins, Pat McAfee believes the Wolfpack will pull one out on the road.

Here’s a look at the rest of Christian Wilkins’ picks to win:

  • Clemson over N.C. State
  • Wake Forest over Florida State
  • Michigan over Iowa
  • Oklahoma State over Baylor
  • Navy over Air Force
  • Ole Miss over Kentucky
  • Alabama over Arkansas
  • Auburn over LSU
  • Utah over Oregon State
  • Kansas over Iowa State
  • Kansas State over Texas Tech

How many Clemson games will College GameDay visit in 2022?

College GameDay could be visiting multiple Clemson games this season, including a potential trip to an ACC matchup in Death Valley.

College GameDay may be returning to Clemson in 2022.

While it is already set in stone that in week one, College GameDay will travel first to Pittsburgh, Pa., for Pitt vs. West Virginia and then Colombus, Ohio, for Ohio State vs. Notre Dame, there are still 13 other possible weeks for a Clemson game to be featured.

To predict the potential locations for College GameDay visits, 247Sports’  Dean Straka outlined the most likely scenarios for each week.

Straka predicted that Lee Corso, Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and the rest of the crew will visit the site of two Clemson games in 2022.

First, Staka has College GameDay visiting Clemson on Oct. 1 when the Tigers take on NC State after losing to the Wolfpack last season.

Five weeks later, Straka has the crew traveling to Notre Dame for a rematch of the 2020 ACC Championship game.

College GameDay last visited Clemson in 2020 when the Tigers hosted Miami, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, it wasn’t the true atmosphere that the segment usually brings before a game.

While many scenarios must play out correctly, there is also a possibility that College GameDay visits Death Valley in week 12 this season for the same matchup since, at that point, Clemson and Miami could both be at the top of their divisions.
