App State students are so excited for College GameDay that Boone has seemingly run out of posters

That’s a bit of a problem…

Boone, North Carolina, is the place to be right now.

Home of the Appalachian State Mountaineers, the town (which is, as the nickname would suggest, is nestled in the mountains) is set to be a madhouse on Saturday as App State will play host to ESPN’s College GameDay for the very first time for the contest against Troy.

The Mountaineers scored one of the biggest wins in program history on Saturday, upsetting then-No. 6 Texas A&M in College Station. They then added insult to injury by swiping GameDay away from the Aggies’ Week 3 contest against Miami.

Naturally, there’s a lot of excitement in Boone. So much, in fact, that the town has reportedly run out of posters in anticipation of Saturday’s events.

College GameDay signs are among college football’s best traditions, and we certainly hope the folks in Boone are able to rectify this issue, pronto.

The Mountaineers play host to the Trojans in a crucial Sun Belt matchup at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

Kansas Jayhawks in a familiar position as they get set to host the Sooners

The Kansas Jayhawks have shown signs of improved play at times this season, but after recent struggles have reclaimed the “top spot” in these rankings.

After some promising performances through the first half of the season, the Kansas Jayhawks find themselves in a familiar place as arguably the worst team in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports ranks the bottom 25 teams and after a brief stint as the second-worst team in the country, Kansas reclaims the “top spot.”

Earlier this week, it finally got cool enough to put my fur-lined slippers back on. The sensation of sliding my feet into that soft, fluffy warmth was not much different than seeing Kansas at No. 1 yet again. Hello, old friend. Welcome back. Something tells me that the Jayhawks could be the first team to stay at No. 1, considering they’ve got Oklahoma this week and Oklahoma State the week after. But maybe, just maybe… (2) – Fornelli

There have been times this season where the Kansas Jayhawks have shown signs of life. They’ve gotten games close before the blowouts set in. They held Baylor to just 14 first-half points. The Jayhawks were leading the Duke Blue Devils in the third quarter before the game got away from them. They were within six of the previously undefeated Coastal Carolina Chanticleers before succumbing to a strong second-half effort from Coastal.

Head Coach Lance Leipold has made progress and they’re playing better football, but this is a team that still has some growing to do. They don’t have a Pooka Williams on this year’s squad to make life difficult for the Sooners’ defense.

The Jayhawks will come out playing hard, but that effort won’t be enough to make this much of a game on Saturday as the Sooners likely roll on to a blowout victory.

3 Players who helped the Oklahoma Sooners knock off Nebraska, 23-16

It wasn’t always pretty, but Oklahoma grabbed the win over Nebraska on Saturday. Here are 3 Sooners who helped them get there.

Many people (myself included) expected Nebraska to buckle under the pressure of Oklahoma’s pass rush in the Sooners’ 23-16 win over the Cornhuskers. That only kind of happened. Ultimately, the Sooners defensive front did seal the win, sacking quarterback Adrian Martinez twice in the final four plays. But not before Nebraska gave OU everything it could handle for the first 59 minutes of the game.

“A win is a win.” And while the Crimson and Cream won’t receive style points for how they took care of business, they finish non-conference play with a spotless 3-0 record.

Here are three Sooners that helped them get there:

Jadon Haselwood, Wide Receiver

Jadon Haselwood caught Spencer Rattler’s first target of the game for a six-yard gain. He would finish with a team-high nine targets while catching two of three contested balls per Pro Football Focus. Through three games, it is evident that Rattler has big plans for the redshirt sophomore this season.

His six receptions against the Cornhuskers were a game-high. Haselwood continues to leave his fingerprints on the Sooners’ passing attack as both a blocker and a receiver.

It couldn’t have come at a better time.

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez had just connected with Travis Vokolek for a massive 38 yard gain to knock on Oklahoma’s doorstep. Two plays later, Martinez kept it himself for the score and narrowed the Sooners’ lead to 14-9.

Then Pat Fields happened. Oklahoma’s team captain took advantage of a blocked PAT to snag the momentum right back for the Crimson and Cream.

The result of the play was an unexpected two points for the Sooners as the offense marched down the field on a scoring drive punctuated by Kennedy Brooks.

Oklahoma now leads Nebraska 23-9 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. You can catch the end of Sooners – Cornhuskers on Fox.
