Former Texas TE Malcolm Epps enters the transfer portal

Malcolm Epps is back in the transfer portal.

Former Texas tight end Malcolm Epps is back in the NCAA transfer portal.

Epps spent his first three seasons at Texas before transferring to USC in 2021. On3’s Matt Zenitz reports Epps is going to look for a third school as a graduate transfer to spend his final season of eligibility.

Epps has hauled in 37 passes for 483 yards and seven touchdowns during his college career. His 6-foot-7 frame makes Epps a capable red zone target and a mismatch for most defensive backs. Epps will bring five seasons of major college football experience at two blue blood programs to his next school of choice.

Expect another flow of transfers to enter the portal during the spring semester. Some excellent players in college football are going to be available again in the next few months.

Report: Notre Dame offers transfer DL a scholarship after visit

Come back home big fella!

The Irish are already looking at the transfer portal to fill holes ahead of the 2023 season. Notre Dame brought in former Western Michigan defensive lineman [autotag]Braden Fiske[/autotag] for a visit. It looks like it went extremely well; a scholarship was extended according to a report from Allen Trieu of 247Sports.

It will not be a quick decision for Fiske. He visited Florida and has offers from Oklahoma, Kansas, West Virginia and Penn State among others. The Michigan City, Indiana, native said he’s “still open, I have a lot of in-home meetings this week,” so expect to find out shortly where Notre Dame stands in his recruitment.

[autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] hopes playing closer to home is a draw for Fiske, but he has plenty of options for playing time at his next destination. We should know soon if the Irish are still an option for Fiske.

Notre Dame Cornerback Isaiah Rutherford Transfers to Arizona

It can’t be easy to join a big-time college football program but barely see the field.

It can’t be easy to join a big-time college football program but barely see the field. That was the case with Notre Dame cornerback Isaiah Rutherford. At some point, he had to figure there was a program that would better utilize him. He thinks he’ll have his chance at Arizona, which is why he’s transferring there.

Rutherford, a native of Sacramento, California, did not see any game action for the Irish in 2019. This past season, he finally got to experience that as a sophomore, but only in the blowout wins over South Florida and Pittsburgh and the home finale against Syracuse. Even then, he never registered on the stats sheet.

Rutherford joins a Wildcats team whose secondary put up low numbers in 2020. Though they only played five games, they ranked near the bottom nationally in interceptions and passes defended among others. No, it’s not fair to judge them by such limited action. Still, it’s nice of the them to get reinforcements, and we wish Rutherford the best with his new opportunity.

Former Notre Dame wide receiver on the move again

Kevin Stepherson was a receiver who made an instant impact for Notre Dame during his freshman year in 2016.  Although the wins weren’t there for the team, Stepherson impressed with 25 receptions for over 400 yards and five touchdowns.

Kevin Stepherson was a receiver who made an instant impact for Notre Dame during his freshman year in 2016.  Although the wins weren’t there for the team, Stepherson impressed with 25 receptions for over 400 yards and five touchdowns.

A year later he again found the end zone five more times while he hauled in another 359 yards.  But that would be it for Stepherson in a Notre Dame uniform as multiple arrests for possession of marijuana and attempting to steal a pair of sweatpants from Macy’s ended things.

Stepherson got back into football, spending 2019 at Jacksonville State where he hauled in 36 receptions for 479 yards and six scores.  Wednesday brought news that Stepherson has entered the transfer portal as he looks to find where he’ll use his final year of eligibility.

Stepherson was listed at 6-1, 185 pounds last season with Jacksonville State.  Here’s to hoping he has put his past issues in the rear view mirror and can stay on the right track in his final year of eligibility.

Phil Jurkovec – Boston College Bound?

And if he does ultimately end up at Boston College, he could very well be their starting quarterback when the Eagles play Notre Dame next, which is scheduled for 2022.

News came down earlier this week that Phil Jurkovec might not be the savior at quarterback at Notre Dame after all and that he may be taking his talents elsewhere as he’s officially entered the transfer portal.

Jurkovec is wasting no time trying to find his potential landing spot as 247Sports is reporting the former four-star recruit is spending this weekend on an official visit to Boston College.

Boston College quarterback Anthony Brown entered the transfer portal himself not all that long ago, possibly because of the hiring of new head coach Jeff Hafley.

If able to secure a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible to play in 2020, Jurkovec would have three years of eligibility left.

And if he does ultimately end up at Boston College, he could very well be their starting quarterback when the Eagles play Notre Dame next, which is scheduled for 2022.

I wish nothing but the best for Jurkovec in the future and don’t understand the die-hard fans that think he’s some sort of traitor.  He’s still young and things weren’t going as planned.  The world will continue to rotate.

Just as long as Jurkovec doesn’t ever lead BC to an upset win against Notre Dame, anyway.
