Notre Dame legend Aaron Taylor to join ‘College Football Today’ on CBS

Set your DVR this fall.

Since he stopped playing, former Notre Dame All-American [autotag]Aaron Taylor[/autotag] has had a successful broadcasting career. Most of that has been with CBS Sports, and he’s paid his dues enough that he now will be featured on one of its top college football shows.

Taylor has been announced as an addition to “College Football Today”, the top pregame show on CBS Sports. He’s earned it after many years as the lead college football analyst on the CBS Sports Network. He will join the existing team of Adam Zucker, Brian Jones and Rick Neuheisel.

CBS Sports executive Harold Bryant said the following:

“Aaron’s extensive football IQ has been integral to our coverage for many years, and we look forward to him joining Adam, BJ and Rick on Saturdays given their deep chemistry cemented over the years on ‘Inside College Football’. And as we extend our postgame coverage, Aaron’s personality and analysis will be a welcome addition with more runway to recap the most pivotal games and moments from earlier in the day.”

Meanwhile, Taylor said this, playing up his comparable youth in doing so:

“BJ, Rick, Adam and I have so much respect for the sport and for the platform we’re given to break down all the exciting twists and turns that college football offers. t gives us the freedom to not take ourselves too seriously and have some fun at each other’s expense. I can’t wait to sit with those guys on Saturdays and be the one person at the desk who isn’t battling a receding hairline.”

Remember that the Irish play Purdue on CBS on Sept. 14. That definitely will be the ideal day to watch if you’re an Irish fan, and it will be interesting to see how, if at all, Taylor plays up his alma mater.

Les Miles Out At Kansas

Kansas has parted ways with head coach Les Miles following a report by LSU detailing allegations of inappropriate behavior during his time as that school’s head coach. Miles was first placed on administrative leave by Kansas, but now he’s done with the announcement coming on Monday night.

Mike DeBord will be the interim head coach until the school finds a permanent replacement for Miles.

This was supposed to be the job that resurrected Miles’ career.

At LSU, Miles went 114-34 with a national championship in 2007 and another trip to the national title game in 2011, losing to Alabama but finishing second in both polls.

LSU was okay in the four years after the loss to the Tide, but he went 37-14 during the span as the team became an also-ran in the SEC West. He was fired after a 2-2 starting 2016 – helped by a last second controversial loss to Auburn – and that was it.

Kansas hired him in 2019, but he went just 3-18 in his two seasons and 1-16 in the Big 12. Last year’s team was outscored 414-142 with only one game – a 16-13 loss to Texas Tech – decided by fewer than 15 points.

The 2019 team shocked Boston College on the road and beat Texas Tech 37-34, but closed out the season with a four-game losing streak by a combined score of 171-60.

And now Kansas has to find a head coach to try turning this around in a hurry.

The Jayhawks haven’t won more than three games in a season since 2009, and they haven’t had a winning season since 2008.

Tom Herman Fired By Texas, Steve Sarkisian Hired: College Football News

Texas fired head coach Tom Herman and is hiring Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

Texas fired head coach Tom Herman and is hiring Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

[jwplayer cFHw17DH]

Texas should be in the national championship hunt every year.

At the very least, it should be in the Big 12 Championship game every season in an okay-not-amazing conference. The school and football program are bound by nothing, they have all the resources, the right recruiting base, and no real excuse to not at least be a bigger overall player.

However, even with a minor miracle to get by Texas Tech, and a few too many tight fights, the Longhorns only had three losses, and they were all close. They lost by three to TCU, lost on a late field goal against Iowa State, and lost in a crazy firefight to Oklahoma. Texas went 7-3, blew out Colorado in the Alamo Bowl, and … fired Tom Herman.

Herman went 32-18 in his four years with no Big 12 Championships and just one conference title appearance, but he won all four of his bowl appearances.

He’s out, and Steve Sarkisian is in.

The current Alabama offensive coordinator has taking the Tide attack to another level, helped make it all explode even after losing star WR Jaylen Waddle, and he’s got the seal of approval from Nick Saban as one of his top assistants ever.

He struggled at Washington – earning the moniker Seven Win Sark after going 34-29 in five years – he never went better than 5-4 in his time in Seattle – and went 9-4 in one year at USC before off-the-field and personal issues led to his dismissal.

He revived his career as a high-end offensive coordinator, and now it’s his job to bring that offensive magic from Alabama to Texas, start beating Oklahoma, start winning Big 12 Championships, and get the program back to being among the elite of the elite.
