Peyton Manning teases NFL comeback in promo for “College Bowl”

Peyton Manning says he’s coming back to the game! … of trivia 😅

Peyton Manning teased a return to “the game” in a recent commercial, but football fans shouldn’t get too excited. He is “returning,” just not to a football field.

“Hey, I’ve got a huge announcement,” Manning said during an advertisement that aired during the NFL’s Hall of Fame Game on NBC. “I’m returning to the game … of trivia.”

Manning has returned for the second season of “College Bowl” on NBC, a game show that he produced and co-hosted last summer. His brother, Cooper, co-hosts the show with Peyton, and they exchange plenty of zingers and witty banter, as one would expect from the Mannings.

Manning has stayed busy since retiring from the NFL in 2016. He still films commercials and he’s working on several projects with ESPN. The former quarterback also recent produced another game show, The Final Straw, for ABC.

Manning’s final game in the NFL was a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers with the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Six years later, he’s now a candidate to join the team as an advisor under new ownership.

Who would make up a Notre Dame team on ‘College Bowl’?

Would you like to see these former athletes represent Notre Dame in a different type of contest?

Those of you of a certain age might remember “College Bowl”, a program that featured teams of college students testing their knowledge. Well, NBC is bringing it back in June with Peyton Manning as host and Cooper Manning as his assistant. Presently, Notre Dame is not listed among the schools that will participate. But wouldn’t that be cool if it did?

In fact, what if their was a “College Bowl” version in which the schools were represented by famous athletes that went there? Notre Dame certainly would have its pick of the litter with all of the big names associated with it. With only three spots available, that makes the selection process even tougher. However, we think we’ve picked a team that would be perfect to represent the Irish, one that was put together by virtue of name recognition, if not qualification to be quizzed on their knowledge of the world we live in.

Peyton Manning to host game show ‘College Bowl’ reboot

Peyton Manning will be the host of the reboot of the game show “College Bowl”

Big Tuesday for Peyton Manning. The great quarterback was named as a Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist — he is a mortal lock to get in — and then  it was revealed he will be the host of a reboot of the game show “College Bowl.”

“I’ve always loved intense college competition, so I’m thrilled to be part of the team bringing back College Bowl,” said Manning, who has endowed 45 scholarships via his PeyBack Foundation. “Having personally seen the profound impact scholarships can make on deserving students, I can’t wait for the moment when we get to award life-changing scholarships to the winning team.”

“College Bowl” is not a football game.

What it is, is a show that featured two four-member teams representing various colleges competing in a series of question rounds. The series originally aired on radio stations in 1953 before moving to CBS between 1959-63 and NBC between 1963-70.

NBC has authorized a 10-episode order for a revival of the quiz show. A premiere date has not yet been determined.

An example of what the show’s format was like:

“College Bowl” will be executive produced by Peyton Manning, Cooper Manning, Eli Manning, Richard Reid via Richard Reid Productions,  and Mark Itkin via his Tough Lamb Media.
