Watch: Colin Kaepernick’s workout during halftime of Michigan’s spring football game

Colin Kaepernick held a Jim Harbaugh-orchestrated throwing session during Michigan’s spring game. Will it mean anything for his NFL future?

During halftime of Michigan’s spring game, there was a familiar face to Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh — Colin Kaepernick, who played for Harbaugh in San Francisco from 2011 through 2014, and nearly led the 49ers to a win in Super Bowl XLVII over the Baltimore Ravens at the end of the 2012 season, and nearly led the 49ers back to the Super Bowl in a narrow loss to the eventual champion Seattle Seahawks in the 2013 NFC Championship game.

Of course, Kaepernick has been out of professional football since the end of the 2016 season, most likely because he knelt during the national anthem that season to protest police brutality. Kaepernick accepted a settlement from the NFL in 2019 after filing a collusion grievance against the league for keeping him out of professional football for all the wrong reasons. There was a farcical workout for NFL teams that same year that led to nothing, and Kaepernick has seen at least the appearance of interest from a couple of teams (most notably the Seahawks), but to date, no team has been willing to buck the blacklist. Kaepernick recently worked out with Seattle star receiver Tyler Lockett, and there are NFL players all along who have believed that he deserves an honest opportunity, but despite a constant shortage of high-level quarterbacks at the NFL level, we’re still in the same place.

So, Harbaugh brought his former quarterback to the Michigan campus, where Kaepernick got his bearings, spoke to the team, and participated in a workout that Harbaugh — a former NFL quarterback and one of the most demanding quarterback tutors of his era — ran from the field.

As has been the case whenever Kaepernick has thrown against air over the last few years, he looked accurate and confident on everything from simple outs and hitches to go and seam routes. We already knew that he had the arm to make any throw in that narrow workout vacuum. Now, it’s up to some NFL team to give him a real chance — or not.

Report: Ravens did not attend Colin Kaepernick workout

The Baltimore Ravens were not among the eight teams in attendance at Colin Kaepernick’s workout this weekend.

As former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick continues his comeback attempt into the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens don’t seem to be terribly interested. The Ravens were not among the eight teams present at Kaepernick’s Saturday workout, according to Adam Schefter.

The NFL had put together an out-of-the-blue workout for Kaepernick at the Atlanta Falcons’ facility, seeing 25 teams represented according to a statement from the league. But with disputes over the transparency of the workout between the quarterback and the league, Kaepernick provided a sudden change of plans, moving the workout to a separate facility and out from under the constraints put on by the league. Though Kaepernick’s workout was considered to be positive, Baltimore already has three mobile quarterbacks that fit their scheme on their roster and for cheap.

Baltimore had previously teased the idea of signing Kaepernick back in 2017. When Joe Flacco went down with an injury that season, Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters the team had not ruled out signing Kaepernick at the time. Owner Steve Bisciotti also noted the team had discussed the idea internally. But much has changed with the team since that point, leaving the Ravens set at quarterback right now.

Baltimore now has Lamar Jackson as their franchise quarterback and earning MVP talk in just his second season in the league. Backing him up is former Washington Redskins quarterback and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III. In the third-string role is former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley.

Griffin is under contract through the 2020 season and carries $1.5 million and $2.5 million cap hits in each season, according to Over The Cap. McSorley is under a rookie contract that has him signed through the 2022 season. Jackson, if using the fifth-year option available, is on a rookie deal through the 2022 season as well.

Report: Bills did not attend Colin Kaepernick’s workout in Atlanta

The Buffalo Bills were not one of eight teams to attend Colin Kaepernick’s weekend workout in Atlanta.

The Buffalo Bills were not one of eight teams to attend Colin Kaepernick’s weekend workout in Atlanta, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter initially reported that the Bills were one of the eight teams to attend, later retracting the report through a tweet.

Kaepernick, a 32-year-old quarterback who last played in the NFL in 2016, held his own workout for scouts late Saturday afternoon. The NFL had initially organized the workout for the signal-caller, but Kaepernick instead opted to hold his own workout at an alternate location, a way to make the event open to media and fans.

Over 24 teams were initially slated to attend Kaepernick’s workout, but just eight ultimately sent representatives after the workout was moved from the Atlanta Falcons’ training facility to a high school south of Atlanta.

Kaepernick’s three-year absence from the NFL has been a tumultuous saga of controversy. The former NFC Championship-winning quarterback went unsigned in the 2017 offseason, this after sparking a national debate by kneeling during the singing of the national anthem throughout the 2016 season.

The veteran felt as though the league made a concerted effort to keep him unsigned, prompting him to issue a ‘collusion grievance‘ against the NFL in August 2017. The case was settled in February 2019.

Kaepernick is “an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any club,” per the NFL.

Bills given fourth-highest odds to sign Colin Kaepernick

The Buffalo Bills have been given 7-1 odds to sign controversial quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

If one sports-betting outlet is to be believed, Colin Kapernick’s long-rumored return to professional football could commence in Western New York.

BettingOnline.ag has given the Buffalo Bills 7-1 odds to sign the 32-year-old quarterback, the fourth-highest odds amongst all NFL teams.

The Cincinnati Bengals, who recently benched Andy Dalton in favor of rookie Ryan Finley, have the league’s highest odds at 7-2. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are the only remaining teams who top Buffalo on the list.

The odds were released after the NFL announced a weekend workout for the former San Francisco 49er, giving Kaepernick, who has not taken a snap in a professional football game since the 2016 season, an opportunity to impress scouts in attendance. According to ESPN, over 24 teams are expected to send scouts to Saturday’s workout.

Kaepernick’s controversial absence from the NFL has been well documented. The veteran kneeled during the singing of the national anthem throughout the 2016 season, his way of protesting racial inequality in the United States. His decision sparked a national debate, prompting the NFL to approve a new national anthem policy in the 2018 offseason.

Kaepernick went unsigned following his protest, ultimately causing the quarterback to file a grievance against the NFL for what he felt was ‘collusion.’ The grievance was settled in February 2019.

Still a free agent, Kaepernick will have the opportunity to play himself onto a roster with a strong performance at his workout this weekend. Once one of the NFL’s most electric players, Kaepernick’s talent level is undeniable. In a league in which teams employ at least two signal-callers, it’s hard to argue that there are 64 professional quarterbacks more talented than Kaepernick.

That being said, Kaepernick has been removed from the game for three years. Now older and lacking recent in-game experience, how Kaepernick would perform in NFL action remains to be seen.

Though the Bills have been given strong odds to sign the former NFC Championship-winning quarterback, a Buffalo-Kaepernick marriage does not seem likely.

With Josh Allen and Matt Barkley on their roster, the Bills are set under center. Though offensive coordinator Brian Daboll could likely make something out of Kaepernick’s athleticism, a return to the NFL as a third-string quarterback and gadget player would likely be far from appealing for the veteran.

Buffalo fans, as a whole, are mixed regarding their opinions on Kaepernick, as well. Though some feel as though he’s a talented player who could improve the team’s struggling offense, others are vehemently against the idea given his past. Kaepernick has previously stated that it was “very evident” that Buffalo fans were against his protest.

Kaepernick would undoubtedly improve some of the quarterback rooms around the NFL. The Bills, however, do not possess one of those rooms. Kaepernick would not be an upgrade over Allen or Barkley, and thus, it’s difficult to imagine the team bringing him in, regardless of betting odds.

As of now, Eagles have not commited to attending Colin Kaepernick’s private workout

As of now, Eagles will not attend Colin Kaepernick’s private workout

The NFL announced this week that they are inviting former 49ers star signal-caller, Colin Kaepernick, to hold a private workout for teams.

Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016 and there have been discussions about just how serious this workout will be. As of Thursday evening, the Eagles had yet to commit to sending a representative to Atlanta for the private workout, according to the NFL.

According to NFL communications, only 11 teams had committed to sending a representative to the workout.

The Eagles are preparing for its Week 11 matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday and even though the team does have a need for veteran leadership as a backup, they don’t seem interested at this time.

Report: Chargers ‘not sure’ about attending QB Colin Kaepernick’s workout

The Los Angeles Chargers are not certain whether or not they will be attending quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s workout on Saturday.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be working out in Atlanta, GA on Saturday for a workout in front of multiple NFL team owners and coaches.

The Chargers told ESPN’s Josina Anderson they were not definitely sure whether a team rep would attend Kaepernick’s workout. The said the team might send a scout, but emphasized they’re good with the position.

Had it been two years ago, it might’ve been a different story.

With Philip Rivers, Tyrod Taylor and rookie Easton Stick, it is not a pressing position of need. If Kaepernick had this workout a couple years back, the Bolts might have been more enticed by it because then, the team had Cardale Jones and Kellen Clemens as the backups to Rivers.

Kaepernick last played in the NFL in 2016 with the San Francisco 49ers and stirred up attention after kneeling during the national anthem, which ended up being a legal suit. The lawsuit has been settled and he will look to make his return to the league.
