The Pacific Northwest native returns home.

Returning home seems to be a common theme among many of Michigan’s outgoing players these days, but not all, of course. In football, South Florida native Devin Gil chose USF as his destination, and while Detroit native and basketball point guard David DeJulius transferred to Cincinnati, fellow transfer Colin Castleton chose to also return home to his native Florida and play for the Gators.

While it was somewhat surprising that Michigan guard Cole Bajema chose to enter the NCAA transfer portal, especially considering there was no longer a scholarship crunch in Ann Arbor, it would make sense that the Washington native would head back west. And that’s precisely what he did, choosing Washington as his destination.

At Michigan, Bajema played in nine games, averaging 2.9 points while hitting 57% of his three-point attempts.

Barring a waiver from the NCAA, Bajema will have to sit out next year per current transfer rules, but will have three seasons of eligibility once he is able to play.

The Wolverines guard/small forward will look to play elsewhere beyond having his one season in Ann Arbor.

While it seemed like the Wolverines basketball program had reached critical mass with attrition, it’s not over yet.

It was a big surprise this offseason when point guard-of-the-future David DeJulius opted to transfer to Cincinnati while Colin Castleton — who showed promise in his freshman campaign, but didn’t seem to play as big of a role as sophomore — transferred to Florida.

However, another one seems to be hitting the market, and it’s one who many thought could play a big role eventually in his second season with head coach Juwan Howard.

2019 signee and guard/small forward Cole Bajema is seeking a change of destination, according to The Athletic‘s Brendan Quinn.

According to ESPN, the Washington-native played in 10 games for an average of 3.7 points-per-game, but also with a 57% three-point percentage. He was thought to be a good candidate to give the maize and blue some deep shots in the coming years.

With Bajema’s departure, Franz Wagner is the only member of the 2019 class left, as former signee Jalen Wilson departed after John Beilein resigned to take the Cleveland Cavaliers job.
