Armando Bacot reveals his top five UNC teammates on Ian Jackson’s podcast

UNC record holder Armando Bacot reveals his top five teammates on Ian Jackson’s podcast.

These days everyone has a podcast, including incoming five-star recruit [autotag]Ian Jackson[/autotag], who asked University of North Carolina record breaker [autotag]Armando Bacot[/autotag] the one-million-dollar question.

Who is Bacot’s top five UNC players he’s played with?

Jackson and his co-host Pat Wavy had Bacot on the Captain Jack podcast, asking him a slew of questions. The one that easily took the icing was getting the Tar Heel to answer the five best players he teamed up with while at UNC.

Bacot has played with stellar talent during his playing days with UNC, including a few current NBA players. Some names that Bacot said were a given, however, there were a few shockers that he named.

The big man had no problem naming [autotag]RJ Davis[/autotag], [autotag]Cole Anthony[/autotag], and [autotag]Caleb Love[/autotag], but after that things got tricky.

It’s always fun to go down memory lane, especially seeing the onslaught of talented players Bacot laced up with. Seeing [autotag]Day’Ron Sharpe[/autotag] was a bit of a surprise, but hard to deny how unstoppable that force was.

Davis was a given, but it was also nice that Anthony got acknowledged for his freshman campaign. Picking [autotag]Brady Manek[/autotag] over [autotag]Harrison Ingram[/autotag] had to be hard, but then again, who could deny UNC’s version of Larry Bird?

Social media reacts to Cole Anthony’s alley-hoop posterizing dunk

Social media reacts to former UNC Tar Heel Cole Anthony posterizing alley-hoop dunk over Boston Celtics Derrick White.

Former Tar Heels have been making some highlight plays in the NBA, most recently [autotag]Cole Anthony[/autotag], whose alley-hoop posterizing dunk over Derrick White sent social media into a frenzy.

Weeks after former UNC guard Coby White baptized former Duke star Paolo Banchero, fans got to witness Anthony soar in the air for a thunderous dunk during the NBA in-season tournament, where the Orlando Magic took on the Boston Celtics.

Anthony, who has become a pivotal part of Orlando’s rebuild, had the opportunity to be on the receiving end of an alley hoop, and what seemed like an impossible finish turned into magic. The nasty slam has since gone viral, with the moment being shared throughout social media, garnering over 1 million views in less than 24 hours.

Unlike the White dunk, this Anthony dunk did come with a win over the Celtics, pushing the Magic to their 11th victory and the No. 2 spot in the east. Let us see how social media reacted to the viral dunk.

Takeaways: Magic stifle Rockets as Jalen Green, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr. struggle in opener

It was a rough opening night for Jalen Green, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith Jr. as Orlando’s defense suffocated the #Rockets en route to a 116-86 win.

In Wednesday night’s opener from Orlando, the Rockets began their 2023-24 campaign with a disheartening 116-86 loss (box score) to the Magic. It was Houston’s first regular-season game under Ime Udoka, who replaced Stephen Silas as head coach this offseason.

Houston trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half before cutting the margin to a single point early in the third quarter. Then, led by Franz Wagner and Cole Anthony, Orlando broke the game open a second time and never looked back in what became a rout.

Anthony led the Magic in 24 reserve minutes with 20 points and 8 rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting (66.7%). Wagner added 17 points in 27 minutes while making 3-of-7 from 3-point range (42.9%).

Playing against Orlando’s long, athletic and physical defense made it a rough night for many younger Rockets. The poor showings included:

  • Jalen Green: 10 points, 1 rebound, 0 assists in 30 minutes; 2-of-10 shooting (20%)
  • Jabari Smith Jr.: 7 points, 5 rebounds, 6 fouls in 26 minutes; 3-of-9 shooting (33.3%), 0-of-4 on 3-pointers
  • Amen Thompson: 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 turnovers, 2 assists in 21 minutes; 3-of-10 (30%), 1-of-7 on 3-pointers (14.3%)

Orlando outrebounded Houston by a commanding 63-37 margin.

Dillon Brooks was a standout in his first game with the Rockets, posting 14 points and 4 rebounds in 26 minutes while making 4-of-6 from 3-point range (66.7%). Veteran floor general Fred VanVleet had 14 points and 5 assists while also connecting on 4-of-6 from deep, though he missed six of his seven shots inside the arc.

Third-year center Alperen Sengun had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, shooting 6-of-11 from the field (54.5%). However, like many of his teammates, he struggled to score after a 6-of-6 start.

Here are highlights and interviews from Wednesday, along with reaction by media members and fans. Next up for Houston is a visit to San Antonio on Friday night, with tipoff at 7 p.m. Central.

Cole Anthony signs extension with Orlando Magic

Former UNC basketball standout Cole Anthony has agreed to a deal with the Orlando Magic on a three-year extension.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels’ point guard Cole Anthony is staying in Orlando for the foreseeable future.

Just a day before the 2023-24 NBA season is scheduled to tip off, Anthony has reportedly agreed on a three-year contract extension to stay with the team that drafted him. Adrian Wojnarowski reported the deal on Monday, as Anthony has agreed to the deal that is worth $39M over three years.

The 23-year-old Anthony averaged 13 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game last season for the Magic. He appeared in 60 games last season and shot career highs of 45.4% overall and 36.4% from 3-point range. Anthony adjusted to the Sixth Man role for the Magic and performed well.

Orlando is an up-and-coming team in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, carefully building their roster over the past few seasons including some top lottery picks. It’s clear that they value Anthony as a key piece to their future, hence the extension to keep him here an additional three more seasons.

Anthony’s deal got done ahead of Monday night’s deadline for rookie extensions in the NBA.

Cole Anthony responds to trade rumors

Former Tar Heel Cole Anthony responds to trade rumors hilariously.

Cole Anthony could be on the move from Orlando after rumors started circulating that the Magic would look for trade partners.

Well, the tweet that gained 5.9 million views claiming that Anthony could move before the season started caught the attention of the former Tar Heel. Anthony responded to the viral tweet in only one way he could: by promoting his basketball day camp.

There is no idea if the trade rumors are true, especially coming from a parody account, “@TheDunkCentral,” but with 1.3 million followers and a decent track record, it could be. Not to mention how guard-heavy the team currently is.

If it is on to a new team for Anthony, he lived up to expectations for Orlando. He was the 15th overall pick and showed his ability to impact the game through scoring, passing, and rebounding. In the three seasons he played with the Magic, he has averaged 14 points, 4.6 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Twitter reacts to Cole Anthony’s sideline interview at NBA summer league

Twitter reacts to Cole Anthony’s sideline moment from the NBA summer league games.

It has been an eventful offseason for [autotag]Cole Anthony[/autotag], from working out with Elliot Cadeau and Seth Trimble to being miked up on the sideline of the summer league games.

Saturday night put Anthony back into the spotlight, but this time not for his work ethic on the court. Instead, it was for his personality off the court. During the Orlando-Detroit game, Anthony was interviewed, and while in mid-sentence, the former Tar Heel showed some hype for a fellow teammate after a thunderous play.

Anthony’s reaction mid-interview was shared on Twitter from different media outlets as fans discussed how entertaining he is.

Anthony is entering his fourth season with Orlando and has displayed some magical games in the 172 games he has played for the organization. Last season, Anthony averaged 13 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.

Let us look at how Twitter reacted to Anthony’s sideline moment.

Former UNC guard could be on trade block for Orlando Magic

Former UNC basketball guard Cole Anthony could be on the trade block if the Orlando Magic draft a guard on Thursday night.

The North Carolina Tar Heels likely won’t have a player drafted in Thursday’s 2023 NBA draft but it could have implications on one former layer.

Former first-round pick Cole Anthony could be on the trade block after a few seasons in Orlando. The Magic have a crowded backcourt and with the No. 6 pick, they could be looking at a guard. If they do take someone like Anthony Black or Ausar Thompson, it could mean Anthony or Jalen Suggs could be traded.

Here is what NBA reporter Jake Fischer wrote on Anthony’s situation in Orlando:

Black’s camp initially showed resistance to working out for the Magic, sources said, because of Orlando’s perceived logjam in the backcourt with a trio of first-round guards in Markelle Fultz, Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony. Anthony will become extension eligible this summer and is considered to have a great relationship with the Magic front office, but Orlando has left various personnel with the impression that drafting a guard like Ausar or Black would lead the Magic to exploring trade opportunities for one of Suggs or Anthony.

Anthony has spent three seasons in Orlando with the Magic and is averaging 14.2 points, 5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in his career. After being a starter, Anthony has found his role off the bench last season for a young Magic team that is in a rebuild.

Cole Anthony praises two Tar Heels after scrimmages

Cole Anthony praises incoming five-star freshman Elliot Cadeau and sophomore Seth Trimble after workouts.

After former UNC guard [autotag]Cole Anthony[/autotag] was seen working out with incoming five-star freshman Elliot Cadeau, and sophomore Seth Trimble, he appeared on the Carolina Insider podcast to deliver some praise.

“Elliot reminds me of myself when I was coming to Carolina. He just wants to move at 100 miles per hour.”Anthony said Thursday on the Carolina Insider podcast. “He is super, super skilled. He’s got all the skill in the world, but everything is just super, super fast. He’s like Sonic the Hedgehog. He’s super fast. He’s the fastest on the court, but he doesn’t need to show it at all times. He can play at different speeds and break the game down in a way where he might be even harder to guard. Seth is one heck of a defender. He might not look like it, but he was doing a good job as anyone I have seen. That kid is going to be all right.”

Cole continued to speak on what it meant to be back on campus for the scrimmages.

“It has been good to get here and really connect with some of the younger players,” Anthony said. “I know Elliot Cadeau and RJ Davis, both dudes are from my area. I’ve been playing with RJ since I was a kid, so it’s been good to get in with him. Working with Elliot and Seth Trimble has been dope, connecting with the guards. The runs have been fun.”

Anthony will be entering his fourth season in the NBA after going 15th overall in the 2020 NBA draft. Anthony has averaged 14.2 points, five rebounds, and 4.6 assists in his first three seasons. Seeing the Tar Heel back on campus working with the next stars of UNC basketball should serve as a significant boost heading into the upcoming season.
