Coby White leads Bulls to victory with 20 points in first career start

White proved he belonged in the starting lineup on Tuesday after recording his fourth straight 20-point game.

Coby White scored 20 points, five assists and five rebounds in his first career start on Tuesday night to lead the Chicago Bulls to a108-103 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

White shot 7-of-17 from the field, including 2-of-7 from 3-point range in 38 minutes of work in the win. The first-round pick scored nine points alone in the second quarter to put the Bulls up by two points at the end of the first half.

White recorded his fourth consecutive 20-point game on Tuesday as he has accomplished that feat in eight out of his last nine games. He turned in a couple of highlight-reel plays, including a nasty dribble move against Andre Drummond that left the veteran center in the dust.

After coming off of the bench in the first 64 games of the season, White finally earned his first career start and proved he belonged with his performance against the Cavaliers.

Bulls rookie Coby White to earn first start on Tuesday vs. Cavaliers

White is averaging 26.9 points, 4.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds on 44.6% shooting from 3-point range since Feb. 22.

Coby White will make his first career start on Tuesday night as the Chicago Bulls host the Cleveland Cavaliers, head coach Jim Boylen said on Monday afternoon.

White has come off of the bench in each of the Bulls’ 64 games to this point of the season but the rookie will get his first opportunity in the starting lineup against the Cavaliers.

The first-round pick has had a remarkable run recently with the Bulls.

White has scored at least 20 points in seven out of his last eight games and became the first rookie in NBA history to record at least 30 points in three consecutive games as a reserve.

He is averaging 26.9 points, 4.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds on 44.6% shooting from 3-point range over that span. His 26.9 points are 10th-most in the NBA among all players during that time frame.

Boylen has not shown any inclination to start White previously this season and believed he needed to play better in order to earn that honor. With the Bulls sliding in the playoff race, and with the recent hot streak by White, the Bulls are finally going to give him a chance to start.

White leads all rookies with 131 made 3-pointers.

Coby White continues hot streak with 26 points against the Pacers

The first-round pick has scored at least 20 points in six out of his last seven games with the Bulls.

Chicago Bulls rookie Coby White scored 26 points and six assists to continue a recent hot surge on Friday night in a 108-102 loss at home to the Indiana Pacers.

White went 10-of-21 from the field, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range, in the loss as he has now scored at least 20 points in six out of his last seven games with the Bulls. White is averaging 27.7 points on 46.2% shooting from 3-point range over that span.

The seventh overall pick became the first rookie in NBA history to record three consecutive games with at least 30 points as a reserve and tallied the most 30-point games among his rookie peers in the process.

White earned Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors for February after his recent surge, something he said was impressive because it shows his growth over the season. He had an inconsistent start to his rookie campaign but appears to have settled in since the All-Star break.

White is averaging 13 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 63 games played this season while he is shooting 35.6% from beyond the arc. He leads all rookies with 128 made 3-pointers.

Williamson and White led the rookie class in scoring, respectively, during the month of February.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White have been named the NBA Rookies of the Month for February, the league announced on Tuesday.

Williamson averaged 25.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists in nine February games while he shot 56.3% from the field. The No. 1 overall pick has scored at least 20 points in 11 consecutive games, the most-ever by a teenager.

Meanwhile, White averaged 20.1 points, 4.1 assists and four rebounds in February. He shot 45.3% from the field, including 41.1% from 3-point range as he became the first rookie in NBA history to record at least 30 points in three straight games as a reserve.

The two players led the rookie class in scoring during the month.

Prior to February, Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant and Miami Heat guard Kendrick Nunn took home Rookie of the Month honors each of the three times it was rewarded.

February marked the first full month of action for Williamson after debuting in January while White recently caught fire after having an inconsistent rookie campaign.

Coby White ‘questionable’ to play Saturday vs. Knicks with back injury

White suffered a back injury on Thursday prior to practice and could sit on Saturday as a result.

Chicago Bulls rookie Coby White is questionable to play Saturday night against the New York Knicks, according to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.

The first-round pick sat out of practice on Thursday after suffering a back injury beforehand. Bulls head coach Jim Boylen did not have an update on White after practice and it appears as though he could sit out Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Should White sit, the injury comes at an inopportune time for the rookie.

White has been on a tear after recording 101 total points over his last three outings, becoming the first rookie in NBA history to score 30 points in three straight games as a reserve. He joined Michael Jordan as the only two rookies in team history to have consecutive 30-point games.

Despite being listed as questionable for the matchup on Saturday, the injury to White doesn’t appear to be too serious. Given his recent hot streak, White will likely want to try to play, though an official update on his status likely won’t come until closer to game time.

Bulls’ Coby White missed practice Thursday after suffering back injury

The injury comes just as White had been on a tear with the Bulls, totaling 101 points over his last three outings.

Chicago Bulls rookie Coby White did not practice on Thursday after suffering a back injury beforehand, according to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.

Bulls head coach Jim Boylen did not have an update after practice and was unsure of his status moving forward. The Bulls don’t play again until Saturday, meaning an update likely won’t come until then.

The injury to White comes just as the guard started to heat up.

White has recorded 101 total points over his last three outings, becoming the first rookie in NBA history to score at least 30 points in three consecutive games off of the bench.

White also joined Michael Jordan as the only two rookies in Bulls history to score 30 points in consecutive games as Jordan accomplished the feat eight different times during his rookie season.

In 59 games played, White is averaging 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season with the Bulls. He leads all rookies in 3-pointers made with 116.

Thunder extend road winning streak to nine with victory over Bulls

Oklahoma City held off a second-half charge led by Zach LaVine and Coby White, who combined for 76 points, to beat Chicago 124-122.

The most clutch team in the league did it again.

The Oklahoma City Thunder held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Chicago Bulls to win 124-122 on Tuesday night, extending their franchise-record road winning streak to nine games.

After OKC took a 72-57 lead into the half, the Bulls outscored Oklahoma City 38-19 in the third quarter, led by Zach LaVine and Coby White.

LaVine finished with a game-high 41 points while White added 35.

The duo had their way with the Thunder defense until the final 90 seconds of the game. Dennis Schroder took a charge against LaVine with OKC leading 115-114. Thirty seconds later Steven Adams blocked Daniel Gafford’s shot to preserve a three-point Thunder lead.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chris Paul combined to make seven-of-10 free throw attempts down the stretch to seal the victory.

Oklahoma City had six players in double-digits on Tuesday night, led by Danilo Gallinari, who made 5-of-10 from beyond the arc and outscored the Bulls by himself 14-4 at the start of the game.

Both Gilgeous-Alexander, as part of a double-double, to go with 11 rebounds, and Dennis Schroder had 21, while Paul added 19. Steven Adams scored 16.

Terrance Ferguson played 18 minutes, scoring 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field.

As noted by Erik Horne of The Athletic, it’s Ferguson’s highest point total since Jan. 13.

Ferguson was also important on the defensive end late in the game, not biting on LaVine’s pump fakes per Horne.

Lu Dort, who made history with his 15th start – the most by a two-way player since two-way contracts were introduced in 2017, had an off night. He played 21 minutes but did not score, attempting just two shots from the field a game after going a perfect 6-of-6 against the Spurs.

Oklahoma City improves to 36-22 overall and 17-10 on the road.

The Thunder return home to host the Kings on Thursday before heading back out as part of a back-to-back when they travel to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks on Friday.

Coby White: First rookie with 3 straight 30-point games as a reserve

The Bulls rookie now has the most 30-point games by a rookie this season and they’ve all occurred over his last three performances.

Chicago Bulls guard Coby White recorded his third straight 30-point game on Tuesday night as the rookie scored a career-high 35 points in a 124-122 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

White became the first rookie in NBA history to score at least 30 points in three consecutive games off of the bench.

White has totaled 101 points over his last three games with the Bulls and now has the most 30-point games this season by a rookie, topping the two by Zion Williamson, Kendrick Nunn and Eric Paschall.

White finished by shooting 13-of-21 from the field in the loss, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range. He also added seven assists, six rebounds and three assists.

Coby White joined Michael Jordan to make Bulls history on Sunday

White scored 33 points for the second straight game to lead the Bulls to a win over the Wizards.

Coby White said recently that he is looking to gain some consistency over the final few months of the season. The Chicago Bulls rookie may have already found it.

White scored 33 points on Sunday night to lead the Bulls to a 126-117 win over the Washington Wizards. His performance came just one night after scoring a career-high 33 points in a loss to the Phoenix Suns. White is one of seven rookies this season to score at least 30 points in a game.

White joined Michael Jordan as the only rookies in Bulls team history to score at least 30 points in back-to-back games. Jordan accomplished the feat eight different times during the 1984-85 season.

White finished by shooting 11-of-18 from the field in the victory, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. He also added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block off of the bench.

After an up and down season, White said last week that he hoped to play consistently over the Bulls’ final stretch of the season. With improved play, the rookie can build momentum for next season as he continues his development.

The win on Sunday snapped an eight-game losing streak as the Bulls pulled to within five games of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
