Indiana cracks top ten, Michigan drops out of top 25 in latest Amway Coaches Poll

Michigan State received no votes in the Amway Coaches Poll after getting votes last week.

[jwplayer xwcRkXEd-PROpJzTY]

It was a tough weekend for Michigan State Football, but they weren’t the only Big Ten team to struggle this weekend. Michigan and Penn State were both upset by Indiana and Maryland, respectively.

The Michigan game, specifically, had a big impact on the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY. Michigan has now fully dropped out of the poll and only received a couple of votes. Indiana, on the other hand, is now No. 10 overall after beating Michigan for the first time in decades.

Northwestern has also asserted themselves in the top 25, placing at No. 23 after beating Nebraska. Ohio State stays put at No. 3 despite a shakeup at the top with Notre Dame beating Clemson and taking over the No. 2 spot. Alabama is your new No. 1 team in the country.

Wisconsin falls in the latest Amway Coaches Poll

The Badgers fall after not playing this past weekend

While once again having a game cancelled due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Wisconsin football community, the Badgers dropped in the latest Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

[lawrence-related id=24522]

With the Badgers drop from 14 to 11, they were overtaken by a surprise Big Ten upstart in Indiana. The Hoosiers came in at No. 10 overall, climbing three spots following a win over Michigan, who fell out of the latest poll.

Ohio State remains the class of the conference after another double digit win over Rutgers, and the Buckeyes stayed put at No. 3 in the nation.

Here is a look at the entire Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports:

Notre Dame up into top 2 in Amway Coaches Poll

Notre Dame moves up in the latest Amway Coaches Poll after upsetting former No. 1 Clemons in South Bend.

[jwplayer hzi9CxsE]

Notre Dame got its signature 2020 win last night, a double-overtime thriller against Clemson in which the Irish outlasted the Tigers 47-40. Yes, presumed No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence didn’t play, but does that really matter?

No, Clemson has been a dominant force in college football without Lawrence and will continue after he moves onto the the NFL. What the Irish did last night was something no other ACC opponent can claim to have done since 2017, beat the Tigers in a conference game.

This is a night many Irish fan’s will not forget; we certainly won’t. The Irish were rewarded for their effort in the latest Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports by being ranked No. 2, two spots ahead of Clemson.

In other games in the ACC, No. 10 Miami barely got by NC State, 44-41, Liberty won on the road at Virginia Tech and No. 24 North Carolina waxed Duke, 56-24.

Michigan State gets nine votes in latest Amway Coaches Poll after beating Michigan

Michigan State received their first votes of the season in the Amway Coaches Poll after beating Michigan on the road.

[jwplayer AyZHPp3A]

As the great sage Michael Scott once said: “Oh how the turntables have turned.” After beating Michigan yesterday, the turntables have certainly turned for Michigan State Football.

When the Spartans lost to Rutgers in Week One, it looked like they wouldn’t have a chance to even sniff the top 25, but, surprisingly, in the latest Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY, Michigan State received nine votes.

Conversely, Michigan dropped 11 spots in the poll and is now all the way down at No. 25.

[vertical-gallery id=31520]

Penn State, who lost to Ohio State last night, completely fell out of the poll and only received 56 votes. If you would’ve told me a few weeks ago that MSU would be approaching a similar level to Penn State,  I would’ve been surprised, but that’s a testament to Mel Tucker and his relentless Spartans.

Amway Coaches Poll has no change for Notre Dame ahead of Clemson

No change at the top of the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports sets up a top 5 matchup between Notre Dame and Clemson.

Every team in front of the Irish won yesterday, with Alabama and Ohio State getting fairly easy wins, Clemson had to mount a comeback without star quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Backup D.J. Uiagalelei was up to the task, bringing the Tigers back from an 18-point deficit and ultimately beating upset minded Boston College, 34-28 in Death Valley.

The biggest news came after the game, as Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney announced that Lawrence will miss this coming weeks game against Notre Dame.

The matchup in South Bend will still be one of the most anticipated games of the year, if not the most, even without the projected number one overall draft pick participating. With the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports being released today, the top 5 contest has been set. No. 1 Clemson travels to No. 4 Notre Dame.

Plenty of hype for this contest, ESPN’s College GameDay will be in attendance and the nations eyes will be glued to their televisions Saturday night.

Around the ACC, No. 15 North Carolina was the biggest loser, as Virginia upset the Tar Heels at home 44-41. Every other game in the conference was won by the favorite, so seeing UNC tumble to No. 24 isn’t surprising.

Here is the updated Amway Coaches Poll, with the ACC teams in bold, and last weeks ranking in parenthesis.
