Peyton Manning savagely roasted Jerry Jones and the Cowboys in his CMAs opener

Zing!

The 2024 CMAs featured country music’s best stars taking home hardware, but of course, co-host Peyton Manning couldn’t resist making a football joke like he did last year.

This time, fellow co-host Lainey Wilson talked about Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan’s hit song, saying, “This year we discovered that ‘Cowboys Cry Too.'”

Manning’s response?

“But enough about Jerry Jones,” he said with a mock wince.

That’s so good. In the middle of a disastrous year for the Dallas Cowboys and their owner, you can’t do any better than that one.

Here are a few clips of the monologue with the Jones joke in there:

The CMA Awards paid tribute to Jimmy Buffett with an awesome medley of his best songs

The CMA Awards paid tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett with this awesome medley.

The CMA Awards paid tribute to the late singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett with a medley of some of his best-known songs.

Buffett, who died in September, had one of the most prolific music careers of anyone in his era.

A number of notable country music stars, including Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Zac Brown Band and Mac McAnally, tipped their hats to Buffett’s legacy during the awards show on Wednesday night in Nashville.

You can watch Chesney and McAnally team up to perform Buffett’s “A Pirate Looks at Forty” and Jackson and Brown team up to perform Buffett’s “Margaritaville” and “Son of a Son of a Sailor” below.

If you’re a major Parrothead or just a casual fan, there was plenty to enjoy in this special tribute to one of the most beloved musicians of his generation.

This was the kind of awesome multi-artist performance that helps make a music-oriented awards show like the CMA Awards special.

Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan hysterically roasted the Jets with a CMA Awards joke involving Taylor Swift

Jets fans might want to avoid this one.

During Wednesday night’s CMA Awards, hosts Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan brought a little NFL-related humor to the audience at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

The show’s opening monologue featured Bryan joking that he and Manning were hosting the show because “Travis and Taylor weren’t available,” referencing the recent romance between Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

The two country music awards show hosts also got in a brutal dig in at the New York Jets by Manning setting up a joke about how the difference between Swift and the Jets.

Bryan’s answer: “Taylor can sell out a stadium.” Ouch!

You can watch the full monologue below.

Manning joked after Bryan’s punchline about how he’s glad he didn’t have to deliver that joke so he wouldn’t get in trouble.

Even if country music isn’t your cup of tea, this was a pretty great joke to get the CMA Awards kicked off… unless you’re a Jets fan, of course.
