Joc Pederson rightfully ripped owners of the Pirates, Orioles and Guardians over pathetic payrolls

These ridiculously cheap owners should be ashamed of themselves.

The 2022 MLB season is set to begin in just a few weeks now that the lockout is over and spring training is underway.

This is the time of year where optimism reigns supreme for a number of fanbases as they start thinking about possible World Series runs even though we are still months way from the playoffs.

I say “a number of fanbases” because we all know that there are a bunch of teams that have no chance at having successful years because their owners don’t want to spend the money necessary to be contenders. It has to stink for those fans because they deserve so much better.

Just look at the payrolls for the Pirates, Orioles, and Guardians:

That’s pathetic, especially when you consider this:

There really is no excuse to be so cheap. The owners should sell the teams to people who actually care and aren’t afraid to pay for a good team.

Braves star Joc Pederson rightfully crushed the three teams:

Well freakin said, Joc. These owners are an embarrassment and should be called out every day until they do the right thing and sell their teams.

MLB Twitter had reactions:

Washington rules out a fan favorite for new name

Washington ruled out a fan favorite for its new name. “Wolves” or “Red Wolves” had been a favorite for some of the fanbase.

As announced earlier this morning, the Washington Football Team is now set to reveal their new name/identity on February 2.

This change will be both welcomed by many and resisted by many. That is only natural when you are dealing with people, a long-standing tradition and where there has been much emotional and financial investment.

In a video released by the organization, Doug Williams reflects, “We have been ‘Redskins’ all of our lives, but whatever the change is, I am hugging it.”

Desiring a public acceptance, Washington GM Martin Mayhew expressed, “I hope it is something that embraces DC and the culture we have here.”

“We believe we found a name that our fans and our team across the DMV and beyond can really rally behind,” Washington team president Jason Wright declared, announcing the date.

Damon Jones, WFT Chief Legal Officer reflected on some of the complicated issues and that they were, “Looking at all the similar names and logos that might be out in the marketplace, and how to be sure that you create enough distance from rights that other folks have, (so) that you don’t get yourself into legal trouble.”

“In searching the intellectual property landscape, its extraordinarily complicated for something like this that is going to be this famous and this widely used” continued Jones.

Consequently, a fan favorite, “Red Wolves or Redwolves” was ruled out officially. No doubt this was done now, to eliminate a larger disappointment at the time of the actual announcement.

Seeing they were not going to go with “Redwolves” it is probably wise for Wright to have gone ahead and broken that news to the fans now.

Here is a brief mention and glimpse of the new uniform:

It now appears that the beloved HTTR may cease to exist.

Whatever the choice will be, a lesson that should have been learned is for Wright and Dan Snyder to avoid the politically correct, horrible over-reaction by the MLB Cleveland franchise who announced they were transitioning from the Cleveland “Indians” and becoming the Cleveland “Guardians.”

We earnestly hope Wright and Snyder won’t similarly blow this transition.

Rashard Higgins to throw out first pitch at “Cleveland Guardians” game

Rashard Higgins will throw out the first pitch at the baseball game in Cleveland tonight, calling the team the “Guardians” in his post.

The Cleveland Browns are just a few days away from opening training camp. With a few days remaining before that happens, Rashard Higgins is going to test out his pitching arm.

With all of their rookies signed to their deals, with the final two coming this morning, and the 75th-anniversary uniform unveiled, there isn’t much left for the Browns to do but wait.

For Higgins, that wait includes a day at Progressive Field coming on the heels of the Cleveland Indians announcing they are changing their name to the Cleveland Guardians. While teh official name change won’t take place until the start of the 2022 season, “Hollywood” Higgins is ahead of the game:

Browns players have shown the Indians support at different times, especially when the baseball team is doing well. As one of the limited cities with a professional team in the three major sports (NFL, MLB, NBA), athletes from all three Cleveland teams have supported each other over the years.

While Higgins jokes about his “15 mph” (miles per hour) curveball, it is certain that fans will make sure to get a video of his performance tonight.

10 things everyone thinks the Cleveland Guardians logo looks like

It’s cool though.

Let’s be honest here: you’re not going to make everyone happy when changing a team name or logo.

As with saw with the Cleveland MLB team changing its nickname to Guardians – named for the Art Deco statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge — the reaction was mixed (although there were a lot of very good Guardians of the Galaxy jokes).

And with the logo, which you see above? Same thing, even though the style was clearly a nod to those Guardians statues and their winged headpieces — A lot of critics out there! Let’s head over to Twitter and see what people are comparing it to:

Cleveland’s MLB team is now the Guardians and fans made so many ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ jokes

It’s actually a great name!

After a year of considering a new name change and moving on from the “Indians” nickname, Cleveland’s MLB team will be known as … the Guardians.

That was one of the names fans seemed excited about a year ago, especially because the Guardians are some Art Deco statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge. And while some folks in Ohio may have wanted the Spiders or the Midges or — if you’re me and you like dad jokes, Cleveland Rocks — the Guardians is a great name.

Not everyone agreed. I’d say it was a mixed reaction, with many Guardians of the Galaxy jokes, of course. Here’s a roundup:
