Celtics lose 118-94 to Cavaliers in brutal Game 2 blowout as the defense falls completely flat

The series now tied up at 1-1 as it heads to Ohio for the next two contests.

The Boston Celtics fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers 118-94 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series at TD Garden this past Thursday (May 9) night, the Celtics playing unserious defense vs. a motivated Cavs squad.

The series now tied up at 1-1 as it heads to Ohio for the next two contests, Boston fans are scratching their collective heads over how it could be that the Celtics have not yet learned the lessons that saw them bounced from previous postseasons in recent years. The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, spent a lot of time on their most recent episode trying to contextualize the loss.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

Can the Boston Celtics make the rest of their series vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers a quick one?

Can the Cavs steal another game or two at home?

Can the Boston Celtics make the rest of their 2024 Eastern Conference semifinals series vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers a quick one? After Game 1 of the series, the Celtics’ blowout win had many of us wondering if this might be a very short series indeed. But then Boston botched their Game 2 effort against Cleveland, meaning the series will now end up going at least five games total.

Can the Cavs steal another game or two at home? Will the Celtics pay for their Game 2 performance later on in the postseason, as they have in the past? And most importantly, do the Cavs now have a shot to advance?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast, Jimmy Toscano, A. Sherrod Blakely and John Zannis, took a closer look after Game 1. Check it out below!

Celtics Lab 257: What’s sustainable for Cavs, Cs after Boston’s Game 2 loss with Evan Damarell

Celtics Lab linked up with Locked On Cavs’ Evan Dammarell for a crossover episode to see how the other side of the series is seeing things.

In Game 2 of their 2024 Eastern Conference semifinals series with the Boston Celtics, the Cleveland Cavaliers came out with a plan and stuck to it. The Celtics, on the other hand, came out with an all-too-familiar lackluster effort that cost them a potentially critical contest.

Boston should have anticipated a hungry Cavs squad would be prepared to fight back after a flat Game 1 performance, yet played without focus or energy for much of the game. How will both teams react in Game 3 as the series shifts to Cleveland? What do we expect to see from both ball clubs in response to what went down in Game 2? And how close will the injured players from both rosters be to return?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with Evan Dammarell of “Locked On Cavs” for a crossover episode, so each show can pull back the curtain on how the other side of the series is seeing things. Be sure to tune in to get a bead on what to expect from both squads now that we have a postseason series on our hands.

NBA Twitter reacts to Cavs winning Game 2 vs. Celtics: ‘Donovan Mitchell looks so much like Dwyane Wade’

The Cleveland Cavaliers tied the first-round series against the Boston Celtics 1-1 after beating them 94-118 in Game 2.

Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 29 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, while Evan Mobley added a double-double of his own with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to Cleveland’s victory over Boston in Game 2.

PHOTOS: Boston vs. Cleveland – Cavs blitz Celtics with 118-94 Game 2 win

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments captured in images in the Celtics’ Game 1 of their second round series vs. the Cavs. xx

The Boston Celtics fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers 118-94 at TD Garden Thursday night. The series now stands at 1-1, and the next two games will be played in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers were the more aggressive team from the jump. They used their speed to press the Celtics offense, resulting in a ton of open looks at the rim. For the game, Cleveland logged 60 points in the paint. To make matters worse for Boston, the Cavs shot a blistering13-for-28 on 3-pointers, while the Celtics were ice-cold from deep. Cleveland was simply the more polished and focused team, as evidenced by the final score. Much like Game 2 of the opening round of the postseason, the road team took care of business while Boston never found the right gear.

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments captured in images in the Celtics’ Game 2 of their second round series vs. the Cavs.

What is going on with Jayson Tatum in the East semis with the Boston Celtics?

Could it be his shot selection, or additional pressure from Cleveland? Or is it simply a case of the yips for the Duke alum?

What is going on with Jayson Tatum in the 2024 Eastern Conference semifinals with the Boston Celtics as they face the Cleveland Cavaliers? The St. Louis native shot just 7-of-19 from the field overall and a concerning 0-of-4 from beyond the arc in the Celtics’ 120-95 Game 1 win against the Cavs at TD Garden this past (May 7) Tuesday night.

Is there something going on with the ankle he tweaked in the first round series with the Miami Heat? Could it be his shot selection, or additional pressure from Cleveland? Or is it simply a case of the yips for the Duke alum?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast, Jimmy Toscano, A. Sherrod Blakely and John Zannis, took a closer look after Boston’s first win of the series. Check it out below!

Was Jayson Tatum’s rough Game 1 with the Boston Celtics a shot selection issue?

Shooting just 7-of-19 from the floor overall, many wondered if the St. Louis native might be playing through a sprained ankle.

In his 35 minutes of floor time vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Boston Celtics‘ Game 1 of their 2024 Eastern Conference semifinals series, star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum did not exactly have his best outing of the postseason in terms of efficiency.

Shooting just 7-of-19 from the floor overall, an abysmal 0-of-5 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line, many wondered if the St. Louis native might be playing through a sprained ankle. But could the problem for Tatum in Game 1 be attributed more to the shot selection made by Tatum?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took a closer look on their most recent episode. Check it out below!

Boston’s Kristaps Porzingis returns to shooting at Celtics practice

It remains to be seen whether he will be ready to play again before the end of the 2024 Eastern Conference semifinals series.

Injured star Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis briefly returned to the floor of Auerbach Center at a recent Celtics team practice, where the Latvian center could be seen doing some light shooting drills on this past Wednesday (May 8) after Boston’s 120-95 blowout win in Game 1.

It remains to be seen whether he will be ready to play again before the end of the 2024 Eastern Conference semifinals series with the Cleveland Cavaliers, given the nebulous nature of his soleus strain. But then Boston might not need him to based on what we saw in Game 1.

To see KP moving and shooting for yourself, take a look at the clip embedded below.

Is Jayson Tatum in a mini-slump with the Boston Celtics in the East semis?

And if he is, does it matter with how Boston has been playing?

Fans of the Boston Celtics may have noticed that star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has not quite been playing up to the level we are used to in the postseason. The St. Louis native most recently went 0-of-5 from beyond the arc in Boston’s Game 1 blowout win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, though Tatum found ways to help the win unfold elsewhere on the court.

Is the Duke alum dealing with the ankle he sprained toward the end of the first round series with Miami? Is he just in a mini slump? Or is this all much ado about nothing for the Celtics, given they have dropped just one game since the playoffs started?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast, Jimmy Toscano, A. Sherrod Blakely and John Zannis, got together to talk about it after Boston’s Game 1 win. Check it out in the clip below.

Is this Boston Celtics series vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers a perfect Luke Kornet matchup?

The Cavaliers found themselves challenged by Kornet’s presence.

The Boston Celtics got themselves a blowout 120-95 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series on this past Tuesday (May 7) night to take a 1 – 0 series lead over the Cavs.

Backup Boston big man Luke Kornet played a significant role in the first half of the game, putting up, in 12 minutes of play, 8 rebounds, effectively defending the rim and limiting the Cavaliers’ options inside. The Cavaliers, known for shooting the fewest mid-rangers as a percentage of their shot attempts in the league, found themselves challenged by Kornet’s presence.

Is this series vs. the Cavs a perfect Luke Kornet matchup?
