Starting CB enters the concussion protocol after exiting vs. Raiders

The Browns lost another starter at the end of the game and his status is now up in the air.

Cleveland Browns starting cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. exited the game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the waning minutes of an embarrassing loss.

Emerson was slow to get up and walked to the medical tent with a gaggle of trainers to the medical tent. Emerson was deemed to be in the concussion protocol by head coach Kevin Stefanski after the game.

Emerson had a very rough game against the Raiders. Emerson gave massive cushions to Raiders’ receivers and they gladly ate up the free yards.  Emerson was torched multiple times by Raiders’ receiver Tre Tucker.

The Browns juggled their cornerbacks to replace Emerson. Slot cornerback Greg Newsome II kicked outside. Backup cornerback Cameron Mitchell replaced Newsome in the slot. Mitchell has played well in his limited time as Brown. He plays with a lot of physicality and he fits the demeanor of the defense.

The Browns have suffered a rash of injuries against the Raiders. The Browns lost starting center Ethan Pocic in the first quarter. Linebacker Jordan Hicks left the game with an injury but eventually came back in.

The good, the bad, the ugly: The Browns embarrass themselves again vs. Raiders

I guess we have to talk about it…

Dropping another winnable game where they beat themselves, the Cleveland Browns have dropped to 1-3 on the season after a disappointing loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

A missed extra point was the difference in this game from Dustin Hopkins as the Browns were forced to go for it on 4th down in range for what could have been a game-tying field goal. There were more dropped passes, big plays called back, and a late arrival from the defense for the second straight week in this loss.

With the red-hot Washington Commanders up next for the Browns, it is now or never for head coach Kevin Stefanski and his team.

Here is what stood out: the good, the bad, and the ugly, from this 20-16 loss to the Raiders.

The good: Jerry Jeudy continues to look like a stellar add

It was mostly ugly for the Browns in this loss to the Raiders, a game for the second straight week where they beat themselves more than the opponent. However, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy continues to look like a player worth the cost the Browns gave up for him.

He finished the game as the Browns’ leading receiver, racking up 72 yards on six catches on the day. Jeudy has established himself as an elite route runner and the most explosive playmaker on the football field while tight end David Njoku continues to nurse a bad ankle.

With the struggles of Amari Cooper early in the season, and in a contract year, the Browns need Jeudy to be the first round pick that he was in 2020. Even if he is nothing more than a high-end WR2 in Cleveland, Jeudy has been worth the investment thus far.

As for the good, that was about it.

The bad: The offensive line

It keeps getting worse. Already without three starters along their offensive line, the Browns lost another as Ethan Pocic suffered an ankle injury that he tried to play through but could not.

On one occasion, Amari Cooper was wide open down the field when second-year offensive tackle Dawand Jones whiffed on his assignment and let an immediate defender in the face of Watson. While it was a bad, phantom call, an 80-yard touchdown was wiped off the board due to a holding on Nick Harris as well. Harris then snapped the ball early before Watson was ready on the final drive of the game.

The interior continues to struggle to pick up twists and stunts, and the communication cannot get better when bodies continue to shuffle through. Even with the return of Wills and Conklin, potentially next week, it’s hard to see a way up in 2024.

The ugly: It’s hard to feel optimistic about the future

The cap space isn’t the issue. The Browns will have it managed and under control. However, even managed as it is, the Browns will have to spend controlled and sparingly. They do have a first round pick back as well, but the amount of holes at premium positions is becoming overwhelming.

The Browns need two offensive tackles, a true top wide receiver, and potentially a quarterback as well on the offensive side of the football. Even if Jeudy establishes himself, he is a high-end WR2. Cooper is in a contract year and will not be back at this rate.

Both Conklin and Wills are likely gone at the end of the year, and the status of Watson as the starting quarterback beyond 2024 is still up in the air. At this point, it is feeling quite overwhelming to think about how the Browns move forward into the future.

Defense forces huge fumble for touchdown to get Browns back in the game

The Browns’ defense keeps them in the game!

The Cleveland Browns forced a turnover when the team needed it most against the Las Vegas Raiders as defensive end Isaiah McGuire punched the football out and safety Rodney McLeod ran it back for six.

In the fourth quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders, linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah forced a fumble that resulted in a Browns touchdown. The Browns linebacker has been quiet compared to his usual performance, and he came up big for the Browns here in the fourth quarter.

The hit on Raiders running back Zamir White jarred the ball loose and was scooped up by Browns safety Rodney Mcleod Jr. A momentum swing Cleveland desperately needed.

Jim Schwartz’s defense has lost energy against the Las Vegas offense as each possession progressed. Injuries have overcome the team’s confidence and ability to play to their full potential. This turnover will hopefully turn their hopes around and help them find their footing here in the fourth quarter. Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins missed the extra point after the defensive touchdown as Cleveland is still down a score. We’ll see if they can create another turnover to help the team secure a win.

Another starter exits Raiders game with an injury

Cleveland Browns starting linebacker Jordan Hicks exited the game against the Raiders with an elbow injury. He is questionable to return.

Cleveland Browns starting linebacker Jordan Hicks exited the game against the Raiders with an elbow injury. Hicks was injured while attempting a tackle during the first quarter. Hicks was slow to get up and immediately went to the medical tent for examination. Hicks went to the locker room shortly after. He is questionable to return

Browns backup linebackers Devin Bush and Winston Reid have replaced Hicks in the game. Bush is a longtime veteran who will help shoulder the load for the Browns’ defense. Reid is an undrafted free agent and a special teams ace.

The Cleveland Browns were bitten by the injury bug to start the season. The Browns’ offensive line is extremely battered. They lost starting center Ethan Pocic earlier in the game. The Browns’ defense hasn’t been unscathed. Star Myles Garrett is battling through a host of lower leg injuries. The Browns must get healthy to stay competitive over the rest of the season.

Browns lose yet another staring offensive lineman to injury vs. Raiders

Cleveland Browns starting center Ethan Pocic exited the Las Vegas Raiders game with an ankle injury. He is questionable to return.

Cleveland Browns starting center Ethan Pocic injured his ankle during the extra point at the end of the opening drive against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Pocic walked to the locker room with trainers near the end of the first quarter. He is questionable to return.

Nick Harris replaced Pocic to start the second drive. Harris played center last week after the Browns shifted Pocic and Joel Bitonio to left guard and left tackle respectively. The Browns’ offensive line has been plagued with injuries.

Their projected starters have yet to play a down together this season. The team put Pro Bowler Wyatt Teller on the injured reserve list. The Browns are starting rookie Zak Zinter in his place. The Browns must get healthy in the trenches.

The Browns offense started hot against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Browns have scored on their first two drives. The Browns are leading the Raiders 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Great start in Vegas: Browns score first on 15-play drive

The Browns strike first!

In their Week 4 road game in Las Vegas against the Raiders, the Cleveland Browns started their first drive at their own 30-yard line.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson completed all eight of his passes for 40 yards and rushed once for seven yards on the opening drive, which was capped off by a one-yard play-action touchdown pass to tight end Blake Whiteheart.

Cleveland converted all three third-down attempts on the drive, including an 11-yard completion to Amari Cooper with a roughing-the-passer penalty added on. Running back Jerome Ford rushed four times for 13 yards, while seven different receivers made a catch on the first drive.

Looking to get back to .500, the Browns are off to a great start thanks to their scripted opening plays. The offense will aim to build on this strong start and break out of their early-season lull with the help of strong defensive play.

Browns announce two practice squad elevations for Raiders showdown

The Browns have elevated two from the practice squad.

As the Cleveland Browns look to get back to .500 on the season in Week 4, they have announced their two practice squad elevations against the Las Vegas Raiders. Tight end Geoff Swaim and cornerback Tony Brown II will be joining the active roster in this game.

With David Njoku still out for a third game with a high ankle sprain, this gives the Browns a third tight end on the roster. Jordan Akins will once again get a bulk of the work with Blake Whiteheart and Geoff Swaim filling in on 12 and 13 personnel looks.

Brown is a special teamer who has made a living in that phase of the game. Do not expect to see him on the field defensively but only in the third phase today.

This is the second practice squad elevation for both, meaning they each can be elevated one more time before having to be placed on the waiver wire. If they clear waivers, then the Browns can re-sign them to the practice squad and elevate them three more times.

Browns bring back the throwback uniforms for roadtrip vs. Raiders

The throwbacks have returned

The Cleveland Browns have announced their uniform combination against the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend.

Through three games, the Browns have worn the exact same uniform combination: the brown jersey on the white bottoms. That will change this weekend as they take a trip out west.

The Browns will bring back their white throwback uniforms for this matchup, including the white helmets that they debuted in 2023. This was announced over the summer, then revealed as the Browns wore the white helmets to practice all week, but the team has also now formally announced the uniform reveal on social media.

The Browns wore the white uniforms three times in 2023, going 2-1 in them. This includes clinching a playoff spot against the New York Jets while sporting the throwback, all-white look. Perhaps they can continue their winning ways in the all-white look as they desperately look to right the ship early in the season before it is too late.

Browns dodge two Raiders stars ahead of Week 4 matchup in Vegas

The Browns catch a bit of a break as they look to right the ship in Vegas

The Cleveland Browns may be missing players of their own on Sunday, but the Las Vegas Raiders will be without both defensive end Maxx Crosby and wide receiver Davante Adams.

Coming off of a Pro Bowl season in 2023, Crosby is already up to 11 pressures and three sacks for the Raiders in this game. Especially considering the Browns will be without offensive tackles Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin, this is a huge break for Cleveland.

Without Adams, the Las Vegas wide receiver room is left with just Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, DJ Turner, Tyreik McAllister, and Ramel Keyton to lock horns with Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome II, and Martin Emerson Jr.

Crosby and Adams are among five total Raiders who will not play in this one. Tight end Michael Mayer, right tackle Thayer Munford, and linebacker Divine Deablo will also miss this Week 4 battle (according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez).

Looking to get back in the win column, can the Browns get the job done against a beat up Raiders team?
