Myles Garrett misses Browns practice with an illness

Kevin Stefanski noted this is akin to when Odell Beckham Jr. missed practice with an illness

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett missed Wednesday’s practice in Berea with an undisclosed illness. Head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed that Garrett was not practicing during the coach’s press conference prior to practice.

Stefanski made a point of noting that Garrett was not placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday. He agreed with the statement that Garrett’s status is analogous to Odell Beckham Jr.’s situation earlier this season. Beckham was sent home with an illness that was not COVID-19 and wound up being fine to play.

Three Browns were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list just before Stefanski took to the Zoom podium. Starting right tackle Jack Conklin, kicker Cody Parkey and long snapper Charley Hughlett join offensive lineman Chris Hubbard and fullback Andy Janovich on the list.

Browns reopen after determining no more high-risk exposures to COVID-19

The Browns have had two players test positive in the last four days

The Browns are back open for business on Tuesday. After determining there were no further high-risk exposures or close contacts to anyone who tested positive for COVID-19, the Browns reopened the team’s facilities in Berea.

It comes a day after the Browns closed all facilities after fullback Andy Janovich was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The Browns announced on Monday morning that a player tested positive for the virus. It was the second weekday in a row that happened for Cleveland; Chris Hubbard was placed on the reserve list on Friday and team facilities were also shuttered that day.

The Browns will remain operational under the NFL’s intensive protocol policy. That means meetings will be held remotely. There was no scheduled practice on Tuesday, but that would have been done remotely as well.

If no one else tests positive before Wednesday’s scheduled practice, the Browns will exit the intensive protocol and practice as normally operational.

Browns add 2 to practice squad, protect 4 more for Week 10

CB Stephen Denmark and OC Javon Patterson both worked out for the Browns over the bye weekend

The Browns were busy on Tuesday making changes and designations to the team’s practice squad. Two new players were signed to the squad, and the Browns also revealed the four members of the 14-man squad who are protected for Week 10.

The new additions are CB Stephen Denmark and OL Javon Patterson. Both worked out for the team over the bye weekend and passed COVID-19 protocols to join the team. Denmark brings a size component to the secondary, while Patterson effectively replaces active-roster backup Evan Brown, who was waived by the Browns.

To create one of the needed spots on the practice squad, WR Ryan Switzer was placed on the injured/practice squad list. He no longer counts against the Browns total roster tally. The Browns also terminated the contract of DB Prince Smith.

In addition to the additions, the team protected four players:

  • QB Kyle Lauletta
  • DE Cameron Malveaux
  • PK Matt McCrane
  • OT Alex Taylor
