Browns Injury Report: Jadeveon Clowney back, Jedrick Wills misses practice with back injury

The Browns saw one player return while a new starter missed practice with an injury.

The Cleveland Browns are looking to rebound after a disappointing performance against the New Orleans Saints on Christmas Eve. Now as they prepare for Carson Wentz and the Washington Commanders, the Browns have some injuries to work through after Wednesday’s injury report was quite steep. While defensive end Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice, the Browns now may be without left tackle Jedrick Wills as he missed practice.

All-in-all, ten players appeared on Wednesday’s report for the Browns. Here is the full list of players who appeared on Wednesday’s injury report as the Browns get set to take on the Commanders.

No shutting Nick Chubb down as he plans to play out last two games

No quit in Nick Chubb

There is no shutting down running back Nick Chubb. Even as the Cleveland Browns have been eliminated from the playoffs, and even as Chubb battles through a foot injury, the Pro Bowl running back will not shut it down for the last two weeks of the season. When asked about whether or not he has had any discussion about calling it a season, Chubb responded, “Not at all.”

As the Browns look to grant the wish of Aaron Rodgers and beat the Washington Commanders, they will lean on Chubb to get the job done on the ground as he is set to break his career highs across the board.

Isaac Rochell departs from the practice squad and signs with the Raiders

Isaac Rochell has found a new home.

According to his Twitter account, Isaac Rochell has signed to the active roster of the Las Vegas Raiders. Rochell voided his practice squad agreement with the Cleveland Browns yesterday and now has found a new home today as he heads out west. Rochell no longer has to endure the frigid weather in Cleveland.

Rochell has been up and down from the active roster to the practice squad in Cleveland this year after making the initial 53-man roster. He now gets a two-game audition with the Raiders before hitting the open market once again.

Aaron Rodgers hilariously signs off of The Pat McAfee Show with ‘Go Browns’

Aaron Rodgers is a Browns fan this weekend

The Cleveland Browns have an additional fan this weekend as they get set to take on Carson Wentz and the Washington Commanders. Making his regular appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers signed off on the show with a hilarious nod to Cleveland, exiting with, “Go Browns.”

The Packers, of course, need the help of the Browns to make the playoffs this season as a loss by the Commanders would put them in a win-and-in situation in Week 18. Can the Browns help Rodgers and the Packers out this weekend? It sure would go a long way in smoothing over some tension between the team and the fanbase.

Carson Wentz will start at QB for Commanders vs. Browns

The Browns will get Carson Wentz.

The Washington Commanders will turn back to quarterback Carson Wentz as their starter this weekend as the Cleveland Browns travel to the nation’s capital. Benching Taylor Heinicke, the Browns and defensive coordinator Joe Woods, who will likely exit this offseason, have plenty of time to prepare for Wentz as they look for their seventh win of the season.

Their last game against Wentz, when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, went quite well. Sione Takitaki intercepted a pass for a touchdown, and the Browns were able to bring home a win in 2020. They will be looking to repeat that performance this year.

DE Isaac Rochell terminates practice squad contract with Browns

Isaac Rochell is no longer on the practice squad

Myles Garrett was not the only defensive end making news today, as the Cleveland Browns are down another on their practice squad as Isaac Rochell has terminated his contract with the team according to the league’s memo. There was no news on the memo about him being signed to another team’s active roster, just that he was no longer under contract with the Browns.

Rochell made the initial 53-man roster, was then waived, landed back on the practice squad, and was signed to the active roster again, before being cut and re-signed to the practice squad once again in 2022. Perhaps there is more news to follow, but at this point, the only news out there is that Rochell is no longer a member of the Browns.

Ejiro Evero must be top Joe Woods replacement after Nathaniel Hackett firing

The Browns now have their top candidate

The Denver Broncos fired first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett just 16 weeks into his opening campaign. And by doing so, they opened up the top candidate for the Cleveland Browns as they more than likely search for a new defensive coordinator this offseason to replace Joe Woods. Turning down the interim head coaching gig in Denver, defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero may be on the move in two weeks.

While Evero is going to interview for head coaching jobs around the league, the Browns will do their due diligence. And should Evero fail to secure one of the openings that come available, they must be ready to pounce on a promising and young defensive mind like Evero.

This season, the Browns are giving up the most EPA per play on the ground of any defense in the NFL. While Denver’s rush defense is not a top-tier unit against the run either, falling 23rd in the NFL, they are still not giving up positive EPA per play.

Where Evero makes his money, however, is how his unit defends the pass. The Browns have the 11th-best defensive unit against aerial attacks, but the Broncos sit top-five in the same metric even after trading away their best pass rusher in Bradley Chubb at the deadline.

Browns Ejiro Evero Joe Woods

The Broncos also have some talent expected to hit free agency. If the Browns can land Evero, there is a chance that a talent like former Ohio State defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones may be enticed to follow him. Coaching up safety John Johnson III in Los Angeles as well, the Browns may be able to salvage their once-high-profile defensive back.

Jim Leonhard is on the list, and there will be plenty more to interview for the gig in Cleveland this offseason. However, the Browns should have the brink trucks ready to back up for Evero should he find himself in the position to take another defensive coordinator job in 2023.

NFL insider says Browns could consider their former special teams ace for defensive coordinator

Could the Browns turn to their former special teams ace?

We now have our second NFL insider stating that head coach Kevin Stefanski will return to the Cleveland Browns in 2023. After CBS Sports’ Johnathan Jones stated he was safe before the game on Christmas Eve, NFL insider Benjamin Allbright has also stated the same. Allbright, however, stated that changes will be made to the staff, and their former special teams ace Jim Leonhard could be a target of theirs.

After he was passed up for the head coaching position at Wisconsin, Jim Leonhard will likely land a defensive coordinator gig at the NFL level. According to Allbright, he would not be surprised if the Browns were one of the teams to take a peek at the guy who once wore their uniform.

Nick Chubb celebrates his 27th birthday today

Happy 27th birthday to Nick Chubb!

Today is a very special day within the Cleveland Browns organization as today is the 27th birthday of running back Nick Chubb. What better way for him to celebrate this week than by trampling over the defense of the Washington Commanders?

Sitting third in the league in rushing, Chubb has a chance to jump Derrick Henry for second on the list as the Browns have two games to go. Chubb’s age is not showing as he continues to churn out 1,000-yard seasons like his youth from his time at the University of Georgia has hung around.

We wish Nick a happy birthday and to many more years of health and happiness!
