Raiders at Browns game notes

  • The Raiders returned from a bye and took it on the chin at Allegiant Stadium, falling 45-20 to the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7. They were in it, trailing just 24-17 after three quarters before a dismal fourth.
  • Las Vegas opened 2-0 SU/ATS, but it’s just 1-3 SU/ATS since. One thing which has been consistent for the silver and black is the Over, going 5-0-1 in six outings so far this season.
  • The Browns had a wild, seesaw affair at the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7, rallying for a 37-34 win. QB Baker Mayfield tossed a career-high five touchdowns, but it was a costly loss, as WR Odell Beckham Jr. tore his ACL and is out for the season.
  • With Beckham exiting early, WR Rashard Higgins posted his first-ever 100-yard game, finishing with six grabs for 110 yards. He and rookie WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, who had the game-winning TD catch, will be tasked with filling Beckham’s shoes.
  • The Raiders rank ninth in total yards (390.7), seventh in passing yards (277.2) and 11th in points scored (28.5) per game. Defensively they’re 26th in total yards (403.7), 28th in passing yards (283.8) and 31st in points (32.8) allowed per game.

Raiders at Brown key injuries

Raiders

  • WR Bryan Edwards (foot, ankle) questionable
  • RB Josh Jacobs (knee) questionable

Browns

  • DE Myles Garrett (ankle) questionable
  • TE Austin Hooper (appendectomy) doubtful
  • RB Kareem Hunt (ribs) questionable
  • WR Jarvis Landry (hip, ribs) questionable
  • DT Larry Ogunjobi (hamstring) questionable

Raiders at Browns: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Browns 34, Raiders 30

Money line (?)

The BROWNS (-162) have handled their business at home, going 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS. They have the offense to score plenty of points quickly, even with Beckham done for the season. The Raiders (+135) are more than giving on defense, so you can expect Cleveland’s good times at home to continue.

Against the spread (?)

I actually like the money line better than laying the points with the Browns -3 (-110). I think the Browns cover, but it’s going to be close in another high-scoring, seesaw affair.

Over/Under (?)

The OVER 52.5 (-115) is actually a little on the low side. I think this game finishes well into the 60’s before the dust clears on the shores of Lake Erie. Cleveland has hit the Over in five of the past six, including each of its three games at home, while Las Vegas is 5-0-1 for the Over, including 3-0 in its three road contests.

Cleveland Browns slight home favorites over Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8

The Las Vegas Raiders open as road underdogs in their Week 8 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

The Las Vegas Raiders (3-3) travel to meet the Cleveland Browns (5-2) Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Below, we take a look at the early Week 8 betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

The Raiders were curb stomped in their own building, falling 45-20 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite an extra week to prepare thanks to a bye. After a 2-0 straight up/against the spread start to the season, the Raiders have dropped three of the past four while also covering just once. The defense is a concern for the silver and black, as they have yielded 30 or more points in four straight games, and 24 or more in each outing this season. This will be their third trip to the Eastern Time Zone, and they’re 1-1 SU/ATS with both results hitting the Over. In fact, the Over is an NFL-best 5-0-1 for the Raiders in 2020.

The Browns enjoyed a thrilling 37-34 come-from-behind road victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but it came with a giant cost. WR Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and he is out for the rest of the season. WR Rashard Higgins stepped up in his absence with a career-high 110 yards on six receptions, and rookie WR Donovan Peoples-Jones hauled in the game-winning touchdown. Those are the two who will need to step up to fill the void. QB Baker Mayfield, playing with a cracked rib, had an atrocious start but settled down to toss a career-high five touchdowns.

New to NFL betting?

At +125 odds, the Raiders have an implied 44.44% chance of winning or 5/4 fractional odds. If Las Vegas wins outright or loses by less than 2 points, a Raiders +2.5 (-106) ATS ticket cashes.

At -143 odds, the Browns have an implied 58.85% chance of winning or 100/143 fractional odds. Cleveland needs to win by at least 3 points for a Browns -2.5 (-115) ticket to cash.

Browns at Bengals game notes

  • The Browns are coming off a 38-7 setback at the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending a four-game winning streak in rough fashion. Cleveland also had rolled up at least 32 points in the previous four games before its Week 6 power outage.
  • The Browns enter No. 1 in the NFL with 169.5 rushing yards per game, and they’re 12th in the league with 27.2 points per game. They posted 215 rushing yards in a 35-30 win over the Bengals back in Week 2 in a Thursday night game.
  • Cincinnati rookie QB Joe Burrow had his best game as a professional, completing 37-of-61 passes for 316 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in that first meeting.
  • Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. went for four receptions, 74 yards and a touchdown in the first meeting, while RB Kareem Hunt ran 10 times for 86 yards with a score and two grabs for 15 yards and a touchdown. Hunt will need to keep picking up the slack with RB Nick Chubb (knee) still sidelined.
  • The Bengals rank 26th in the NFL with 21.5 PPG, and they’re 17th in the league with 26.2 PPG allowed.

Browns at Bengals: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Bengals 31, Browns 27

Money line (?)

The BENGALS (+140) are worth a play as they’re a tremendous value at this price on their home field. The Bengals offense has been slowly rounding into form, posting 27 points last week in Indianapolis. The last time they were at Paul Brown Stadium, they pushed past the Jacksonville Jaguars 33-25 in Week 4. Each of their two home contests have been one-score games.

Against the spread (?)

The BENGALS +3 (-110) are a nice play at even-money catching three at home. Cincinnati has covered four of the past five, and it covered in the Week 2 loss at Cleveland, falling 35-30 as six-point ‘dogs. The Browns are 0-2 SU/ATS in two road divisional games, averaging just 6.5 PPG while allowing 38.0 PPG in those outings.

Over/Under (?)

The OVER 50.5 (-115) connected in the first meeting in Week 2, and the Over is 4-1 in the past five overall for the Browns. Even with just seven points last week, Cleveland is still averaging 30.1 PPG over the previous five overall. Cincinnati’s defense has allowed at least 23 points in each of its past five.
