USA Today Sports Coaches Poll: Clemson moves up a spot after beating Miami

Swinney and the Tigers move up in the latest Coaches Poll after a home win over Miami.

The latest USA Today Sports Coaches Poll was released Sunday, with Swinney and Clemson moving up a spot after a dominant defensive performance in their 40-10 win over Miami.

The Tigers 10-1 (8-0 ACC) extended their country-leading home win streak to 40 games while securing their 12th straight ten-win season. It was a good Saturday for Clemson, who now ranks No.8 in USA Today Sports Coaches Poll. The team’s ACC Championship opponent, North Carolina, had a rough loss at home against Georgia Tech this week that resulted in them dropping from No.11 to No.17 in the rankings after Week 12.

With South Carolina taking down former No.5 Tennessee in impressive fashion, the Tigers will have an excellent chance to make a statement on rivalry weekend.

Five takeaways from Clemson’s win over Miami

What we learned from Clemson’s solid win in Death Valley over Miami.

Clemson improved to 10-1 (8-0 ACC) Saturday as Dabo Swinney’s team walked away from Death Valley with a 40-10 win over Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes.

It was a good win for the Tigers though it wasn’t a complete performance from the team. While the offense played possibly their best football of the season in the first half, the second half was a different story, with the group struggling in the third quarter. Luckily for No.9 Clemson, the defense came to play.

Even with the second-half offensive struggles, it was another solid win for Swinney and the Tigers as they extended their home win streak 40 games while winning their 12th straight ten-win season. It was a good night for the Tigers in Death Valley.

Here are five takeaways I believe to be some of the most important from Clemson’s Week 12 win over Miami.

Senior Day becomes a career day for Luke Price

Clemson’s win over Miami was a big day for tight end Luke Price. Not only was Saturday’s game senior day for Price, but it was also the day he caught the first touchdown of his Clemson career. After Wes Goodwin’s defense deflected a pass thrown by …

Clemson’s win over Miami was a big day for tight end Luke Price. Not only was Saturday’s game senior day for Price, but it was also the day he caught the first touchdown of his Clemson career.

After Wes Goodwin’s defense deflected a pass thrown by Miami quarterback Jacurri Brown and safety Jalyn Phillips came up with the interception, the Tigers were in prime Hurricane territory on the 27-yard line.

Price was in the right place at the right time, waiting patiently in the back left corner of the end zone for a pass coming off the hands of a scrambling D.J. Uiagalelei in the pocket, coming away with Clemson’s third touchdown of the day.

The South Carolina native’s 3-yard touchdown reception was both his first reception of the 2022 season (sixth career reception) as well as the first touchdown of his six-year Clemson career.

Though Price has encountered his fair share of adversity while donning the Orange and Purple, redshirting his freshman year and sustaining a season-ending knee injury during fall camp back in 2020, this will surely be a day that the tight end will always remember.

Twitter reacts to Clemson’s win over Miami

A look at how Twitter reacted to Clemson’s 40-10 win over Miami.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers picked up their tenth win of the season Saturday as Clemson took down Miami 40-10 in Death Valley.

It was a solid win for No.9 Clemson 10-1 (8-0 ACC), as the defense played arguably their best game of the season while the offense had an excellent first half before struggling in the third quarter. Though they got better in the fourth quarter, it was a letdown second half for Clemson’s offense.

It wasn’t the complete game the Tigers have been looking to have this season, but it was more than enough for the team to walk away from Death Valley with a comfortable win. Clemson’s defense was just too good Saturday against the Hurricanes as they extended their home win streak to 40 games.

Clemson goes undefeated in ACC regular season play and extends its home win streak with a win over Miami

Clemson extends their home win streak with a win over Miami.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers extended their home win streak to 40 games as Clemson took down Miami 40-10 Saturday in Death Valley.

It was an interesting performance from Swinney’s team as the Tigers 10-1 (8-0 ACC) came out the gates hot, putting together a near-perfect first half. In the second half, however, Clemson’s offense had its struggles with multiple turnovers that could have caused a lot more issues if the defense wasn’t playing so well.

Starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had some great moments though there was some bad to go along with it. The junior completed 22-34 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns while being very effective on the ground Uiagalelei took 17 attempts for 89 yards and a touchdown. He had two second-half turnovers with an interception and a fumble.

Starting running back, Will Shipley seemed banged up throughout the game though he still managed to produce 75 total yards and a touchdown. The Tigers’ offense spread the wealth with 12 different players recording receptions, including senior Luke Price, who had his first career touchdown reception.

Wes Goodwin and the Clemson defense were phenomenal Saturday as the Hurricanes’ offense struggled to get much going against the unit even when they were given great field position. With 68 passing yards and 30 rushing yards, the Hurricanes failed to eclipse 100 offensive yards.

Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was fantastic in this matchup, making some big plays as he recorded a sack and interception. It was likely the best game of his career. Another linebacker, Trenton Simpson, also performed at a high level picking up two sacks.

It was a good win for the Tigers though it was not a complete performance. It was also the programs 12th straight ten win season. Clemson will finish their regular season with its annual rivalry game against South Carolina next Saturday at Death Valley.

Shipley sails in for six, Tigers lead 33-10

Will Shipley came up with his first rushing touchdown of the night thanks to Jake Briningstool’s clutch 49-yard grab.

Running back Will Shipley sailed to the end zone for his first rushing touchdown of the night, a three-yard run to extend Clemson’s lead to 33-10 in the fourth quarter.

En route to the Tiger’s fourth trip to the end zone, quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and Shipley combined for 34 rushing yards on the drive, 18 of which belonged to the running back.

Tight end Jake Briningstool had his best run of the night in the scoring drive with a 49 yard grab stopped just short of the end zone.

Clemson came away with the score in eight plays for 86 yards in just under five minutes of play.

Halftime report: Clemson outplays Miami for a commanding first-half lead

Swinney and the Tigers dominate the first half against Miami.

It was all Clemson in the first half in Death Valley as Dabo Swinney, and the Tigers lead Miami 24-0 at halftime.

Clemson starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had a great first half as he continues trending back in the right direction. The junior quarterback completed 14-19 passes for 128 yards and two passing touchdowns, adding an 8-yard touchdown run as well. Tight end Davis Allen made a beautiful catch in the end zone for one of those touchdowns.

Will Shipley and the run game have been solid, with Shipley totaling 41-yards, Phil Mafah 22 yards, and Uiagalelei with 27 yards on the ground. It has been the best offensive performance we’ve seen in a half from the Tigers this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, even with starting defensive tackle Bryan Bresee out, the defense has been excellent. This first half was by far the defense’s best half of football this season. In a full half of football, Miami’s offense generated 13 passing yards and -5 rushing yards for eight total yards in the first half.

It was a near-perfect first half for Swinney and the No.9 Tigers.

Price extends the lead to 21-0 on senior day

Senior Luke Price makes his senior day even more special with the first touchdown grab of his career to give Clemson the 21-0 lead.

Tight end Luke Price made his first ever trip to the end zone with Clemson’s third touchdown of the half.

Price was in the right place at the right time, coming away with the 3-yard touchdown grab after quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei scrambled in the pocked and found the tight end wide open in the back corner of the end zone.

It all came down to a costly error for Miami quarterback Jacurri Brown, who threw a pass that was muffed by safety R.J. Mickens and intercepted by Jalyn Phillips, giving the Tigers prime field position on the 24 yard line in Miami territory.

Clemson came up with its third touchdown of the day and second touchdown reception in six plays and 27 yards in 2:34.

Uiagalelei runs one into the endzone to put the Tigers up 14-0

DJ Uiagalelei took one in himself to put the Tigers up two scores.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have started red hot in Death Valley as No.9 Clemson leads Miami 14-0 behind a DJ Uiagalelei eight-yard touchdown run.
Clemson’s offense is firing on all cylinders as the touchdown drive was a nine-play, 57-yard drive that ended with the Uiagalelei touchdown run. Offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter has opened up the playbook more than we’ve seen in previous games this season, as the offense looks great playing high-tempo football.

Though the junior quarterback missed a wide-open Davis Allen on the drive’s first play, Uiagalelei recovered nicely, completing five passes for 43-yards. The Tigers starting quarterback looks more comfortable under center, as we saw against Louisville.
