3 defensive keys to a Clemson win at Florida State

Here are three defensive keys for Clemson to remain undefeated at Florida State this weekend.

Fourth-ranked Clemson enters Week 7 of the regular season with its fifth ACC matchup of the season on the road at Florida State.

In their second-straight contest on the road, the Tigers look to keep their undefeated record alive at Doak Campbell Stadium when they face a 4-2 Florida State team at home for the first time since 2018.

With a very improved Jordan Travis at the helm for the Seminoles, Clemson’s defense will have yet another challenge on their hands when they hit the field for the primetime matchup in Tallahassee.

Both Clemson’s secondary and defensive front look to return key starters this weekend including Bryan Bresee, Xavier Thomas, Sheridan Jones and Tyler Venables.

Here are three defensive keys for a Clemson win at Florida State on the road:

Our score predictions for Clemson vs. Florida State

The staff made their score predictions for Clemson’s matchup against Florida State.

Dabo Swinney and Clemson head to Tallahassee this week for massive away matchup with Florida State this Saturday.

Coming off of two huge wins back to back weeks in Wake Forest and NC State, the Tigers had an easier matchup in Week 6 as the team walk away from Boston College with a 31-3 road win. Both the offense and defense were solid in the win though things will have to ramp up for the Tigers to pull off a road win against the Seminoles.

Clemson (6-0, 4-0 ACC) heads into this Week 6 matchup as the favorites once again, though it is the closest line we’ve seen this season for a Clemson game. The Tigers are currently the top dog in the ACC, making this away matchup with a rival even more interesting.

Here at Clemson Wire, the staff broke down their predictions for the Tigers’ matchup with Florida State. Here’s a look at what we’re thinking.

DJ Uiagalelei jumps into the top 10 of this college football quarterback rankings

Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei cracked the top 10 of this college football quarterback rankings.

Clemson starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is having the best season of his career, lifting the Tigers to a 6-0 (4-0 ACC) record through six weeks of the 2022 college football season.

After a lackluster sophomore season where things weren’t clicking for Uiagalelei and the Tigers, the young quarterback’s junior campaign put himself and Clemson back in the limelight. Overcoming a lot of hate and adversity, Uiagalelei has developed into one of the best quarterbacks in college football this season.

So far this season, Uiagalelei has completed 122 of 190 passes for 1,462 yards and 14 touchdowns though he has developed as a runner as well. The junior quarterback has 311 yards on the ground with three rushing touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. When it comes down to it, DJ is an entirely different player than he was the season before.

As we head into Week 7, it looks like Uiagalelei is beginning to get the credit he deserves as he makes his first appearance on Paul Myerberg of USA Today Sports college football quarterback weekly rankings.

8. DJ Uiagalelei, Clemson (NR)

Calling Uiagalelei an outright success story seems a little off base, given how he arrived on campus as a big-time prospect and validated that early hype with two tremendous starts as a true freshman. He’s still taken his game to another level for No. 5 Clemson with a run of very solid starts, ending any discussion over freshman Cade Klubnik potentially taking over as the starter and potentially setting up a monster second half to the regular season. Uiagalelei has thrown for at least 200 yards in every game, added 311 yards on the ground and accounted for 17 total touchdowns after finishing with just 13 scores a year ago.

Uiagalelei has an excellent opportunity to climb this list this week with the Tigers’ away matchup at Florida State.

FSU has a total of seven former four-star prospects among its projected starters. Meanwhile, the Tigers’ projected starting lineups consist of nine former four-star prospects and six former five-stars. Though, if last week’s game against Pitt is any indication, recruiting rankings don’t matter once you step out onto that field. Clemson will surely have its hands full with Mike Norvell’s squad, which has won three straight.
