The Clemson Insider has learned that a priority recruit in the Class of 2022 is on campus for an official visit this weekend.

Kimball (Dallas, Texas) shooting guard Chauncey Gibson is visiting Clemson, a school that made his final cut, from Oct. 7-9.

“The way their coaching staff is treating me, they’ve been down since the recruitment process started and opened back up and everything,” Kimball told TCI regarding his overall impression of Clemson.  “I like how they’ve been recruiting. They’ve been coming at me hard. I like the relationship I got with the coaches. I’m ready to get down there for my visit and see the campus and everything.”

While he originally stated on his Twitter account that he would be making his college decision on Thursday, Oct. 7, Gibson has elected to delay said decision until after he gets to see all that the Tigers have to offer on his visit.

Gibson blew up on the circuit this past summer and is now looking to make his decision before the start of his senior season at Kimball. While he’s now down to four schools — Clemson, SMU, Texas Tech and Old Dominion — he holds an impressive list of offers that includes the programs listed above, in addition to the University of New Mexico, Creighton, USF and Tulsa.

Gibson said that felt at home in SMU because it’s right there in his hometown, but he’s hoping he gets that same feeling in Clemson.

Distance from his hometown doesn’t matter to Gibson, though.

“I’m looking for the best fit for me,” he added. “Whatever’s going to get me to the next level.”

When it comes to Clemson’s recruitment of him, Gibson outlined Tigers’ assistant coach Antonio Reynolds Dean and director of recruiting Lucas McKay. He’s also talked with head coach Brad Brownell and assistant coach Kareem Richardson on several occasions.

“Me and Coach Luke talk every day…We have a great relationship,” Gibson said. “We talk every day. We talk about more than basketball. I have a great, great relationship, I wanna say I have a family relationship with him.”

What has Clemson told Gibson that they like about his game?

“They say that I fit very well in their system,” he said. “They’re recruiting me as a guard, like a point guard. A 6-6 point guard? That’s amazing. There’s not too many 6-6 point guards that you can find in my class.”

“They like my shot, but they say the way I shoot the ball, my shot has to be quicker playing in the ACC,” Gibson added. “The way I facilitate is my hype. Me being able to facilitate and find the open man and really being able to handle the ball under pressure because they say they’re gonna play 94-feet in the ACC, so I have to get ready for that. I really feel like I’m ready for it and they feel like I’m ready for it. Basically, me defending. Me having a 6-11 wingspan and being able to guard any position, I feel like I really fit their system and what they’re trying to do.”

Gibson is the type of player, who likes to get his teammates started before he gets himself involved. Even starting from warmups he wants to get everybody hyped and get their energy up.

Priority 4-star recruit feels he can make ‘a major impact’ at Clemson

The Clemson Insider checked in with a four-star priority recruit who was on campus this past weekend.

Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep four-star power forward Ven Allen-Lubin took in an official visit as he begins to narrow down his recruitment, which has been spearheaded by Clemson assistant coach Antonio Reynolds Dean and head coach Brad Brownell.

“My visit to Clemson was great. It was good to experience the atmosphere and the culture they’ve built since Coach Brownell got there,” he told TCI. “They just committed to what they do well at that school, in the classroom, and on the court. Their fanbase is crazy. Everyone is supportive, everybody’s loving, everybody cares for one another. That’s what I like about having that family environment that they have at their school. Just something I really enjoyed was actually spending time with my family over at Clemson. We also got to see what they also had to offer on the visit, so it was really cool. It was really dope.”

As TCI previously reported, Lubin was on hand for Clemson’s 19-13 win over Boston College at Memorial Stadium this past Saturday. He was taken up to the top of the hill with the high-priority football recruits and got to see one of the best traditions in college football.

“It was an amazing experience,” he said. “I honestly was clueless at the moment, what was gonna happen, what was the situation, but then seeing them coming down the hill, the fans getting loud and energy was just building. It never slacked since the beginning.”

He’s similar to some players who have had success in a Clemson uniform like Jaron Blossomgame, Aamir Simms and Donte Grantham.

“For sure,” Lubin said when asked if he feels like he can make an immediate impact at Clemson. “If I were to make my decision and go to Clemson, I feel like the way they develop their guys at my position and the history they have behind it; a way to develop guys, the skills they need to improve on and just their strengths and just continue getting better. And then, they have a higher chance of making an impact at their school and also going so far in life with their basketball career. I feel like I can trust them with that to where they can build my weakness to where they can be considered strengths and I feel like they can make me very successful in life.”

What was it about Lubin’s visit that stuck out the most?

“That family culture. That’s something that I was really looking for in college,” he said. “That family environment, somewhere that I can feel safe and be me and feel like I could really call it home. I feel like I can really call it home because wherever everybody cares about me, I feel like they’re gonna be my next family, like my Clemson family. They really supported me on that and that was kind of a big thing that stuck out because they also treat the other players like that. I feel like if I were to come to the school, I feel like I would be loved, respected and cared for.”

Lubin’s family was left impressed as well. What stuck out to them was the academic portion of the visit, which will certainly play a huge role in his eventual decision.

“I would say mainly the way the school’s run,” he said. “My parents are really big on academics and their academics are really high. They have academic advisors, tutors and all that stuff to really help student-athletes to where you can be successful in the classroom and not ever fail. If you’re ever struggling you can always come to them. I just feel like they don’t have to worry about me failing class or being unsafe or anything about me that could actually harm me in the future just in that environment. That’s really something that stuck out to them.”

The state of Florida officially begins practice on Nov. 1. While Lubin doesn’t have an exact date in mind, he plans on making his decision sometime in mid-November, before the start of his senior season.

He’s narrowed his recruitment down to four teams: Clemson, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. By the end of next weekend, Lubin will have taken an official visit to all four schools and will begin to weigh his options.

Lubin originally had a top-7, which included Florida, Auburn and Alabama. He will not be taking an official visit to any of those programs, so they’re seemingly eliminated from contention.

“Just as the way since the beginning of my recruitment,” he said when asked how he envisions the remainder of his recruitment playing out. “Just lay back, trust the process and go through it. See the details of every school, what they have to offer and then make the comparisons of what school has what and just communicate that with my family. Sooner enough later, I’ll make my decision.”

What part of Clemson’s recruiting pitch resonated the most with Lubin?

“They don’t promise anything,” Lubin said. “They feel like I have a big opportunity to start for the team as a freshman. The opportunity is there for me, of course, it’s not going to be given, but it will be earned…I have the opportunity just to come out and make a major impact on that team.”

As The Clemson Insider previously reported, Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep four-star power forward Ven Allen-Lubin is on campus for an official visit this weekend.

Lubin was among recruits in attendance for Clemson’s Saturday night matchup against Boston College at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

He has already taken an official visit to Virginia Tech, he’s in Clemson this weekend and will head to Notre Dame next weekend.

Lubin dropped a top seven featuring Clemson along with Florida, Auburn, Notre Dame, Alabama, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.

Lubin received an offer from Clemson in June.

“I was really excited and happy to hear,” Lubin told The Clemson Insider after receiving the offer. “One more added to my list. Clemson’s a really good basketball team and it’s a really good school as well. I was really excited when I got an offer from them.”

Clemson picks up commitment from elite Georgia prospect

Clemson has landed a new commitment in the 2022 class.

The Clemson Insider confirmed that Loganville (Ga.) Grayson High School’s Chauncey Wiggins has verbally committed to the Tigers over schools like Georgia, Maryland, USF and N.C. State.

Wiggins (6-9, 200) ranks as the No. 25 power forward in the country and No. 4 prospect in the state of Georgia, per 247Sports.

Wiggins is a versatile playmaker, who thrives playing along the wing, which is where he envisions Clemson playing him, he told The Clemson Insider last month

The Grayson product makes plays with the ball in his hands and creates scoring opportunities for himself.  Defensively, he’s got the length to get his hands in passing lanes and be a disruptive force at the opposing end. He figures to play either the No. 3 or 4 position at the next level.

After making an official visit to Clemson in late July, Wiggins was back on campus from Sept. 10-12, which seemingly sealed the deal on his recruitment. TCI learned that Wiggins attended Clemson’s home opener against South Carolina State at Memorial Stadium back on Sept. 11.

“I like how hard they recruit me,” Wiggins said to TCI last month. “I like the area that Clemson’s in. I like the facilities. Also, like the coaches too.”

“I would say that Clemson is a very, very nice spot,” he added. “Ian [Schieffelin], I played with him last year. He talked about Clemson highly. I just love how they’ve been recruiting me since 15U and haven’t stopped.”

Wiggins is impressed with everything Clemson had to offer from its coaches to strength training staff. The Tigers’ relentless recruiting approach also sat well with the highly-touted prospect.

Clemson has four scholarship spots available for the 2022 class, Wiggins obviously fills one of them.

Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep power forward Ven-Allen Lubin dropped a top seven featuring Clemson along with Florida, Auburn, Notre Dame, Alabama, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.

Rivals ranks Lubin as the No. 8 power forward and No. 63 overall prospect in the 2022 class.

Lubin received an offer from Clemson in June.

Clemson continues to pursue this Class of 2022 four-star prospect.

Loganville (Ga.) Grayson High School’s Chauncey Wiggins recently broke down the latest of his recruitment with The Clemson Insider. He’s been impressed with the Tigers’ relentless recruiting approach.

Wiggins (6-9, 200) ranks as the No. 25 power forward in the country and No. 4 prospect in the state of Georgia, per 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

Wiggins is a self-described versatile playmaker, who thrives playing along the wing. He told TCI that’s where Clemson would play him, should he choose to commit to the Tigers, who he recently included in his top-5 schools.

The Grayson product can make plays with the ball in his hands and create scoring opportunities for himself.

Defensively, he’s got the length to get hands in passing lanes and be a disruptive force on the opposing end.

Clemson has been recruiting Wiggins since 15U.

According to Wiggins, the Tigers have communicated with him that he’ll either play behind somebody or have the potential to possibly play as soon as he gets there. As mentioned before, that would either be at the 3 or 4.

Wiggins was on Clemson’s campus back on June 22 for an unofficial visit.

“I like how hard they recruit me,” Wiggins said. “I like the area that Clemson’s in. I like the facilities. Also, like the coaches too.”

Wiggins talks with Clemson head coach Brad Brownell and assistants Dick Bender and Antonio Reynolds-Dean on a near-daily basis. He said he speaks with one of them, whether it be a call or text, almost every day or every other day.

“I would say that Clemson is a very, very nice spot,” he added. “Ian [Schieffelin], I played with him last year. He talked about Clemson highly. I just love how they’ve been recruiting me since 15U and haven’t stopped.”

What did Schieffelin tell his former high school teammate about Clemson?

“He said that Coach Brownell pushes him to his limits every day,” Wiggins said. “The assistant are very helpful. Then, what I was really surprised about was the strength coach. [Ian] came in at like 240-something and now he’s down to 225. And it’s just muscle, it’s no fat too.”

Wiggins had similar things to say about the sophomore center/forward P.J. Hall, who he heard lost between 15-20% of his body fat and put muscle on.

Standing at around 200 pounds, Wiggins says he’s very big on that. He’s trying to be around 210 before he leaves for college.

Back on Aug. 20, Wiggins dropped the aforementioned top-5 list. He’s now down to Clemson, Maryland, Georgia, NC State and USF.

“Once I visit the five schools, I’m going to break it down and probably commit after,” he said. “Either in October or November.”

Wiggins is planning to make it back to Tiger Town for one last final visit before his commitment from Sept. 10-12.

What are going to the be most important factors that Wiggins is looking for in a school at the next level?

“How the head coach coaches and how are the assistants developing and how does that school develop,” Wiggins said. “Who am I going to be playing with?”

Elite Georgia prospect hoping to take in Clemson visit soon

Norcross (Ga.) High School’s London Johnson is looking to get up to Clemson soon. He’d like to make a visit to Clemson’s campus sometime in August, before the start of his high school season.

The 2023 point guard recently caught up with The Clemson Insider about his current recruitment and what he’s been hearing from Clemson as of late.

Johnson recently got on a phone with a couple of members of Clemson’s coaching staff, including the Tigers’ director of recruiting, Lucas McKay.

“They’re saying that they really like my game,” Johnson said. “They’re ready for school about to start and then they’ll be out to see me in September. They want to also get me up for a visit sometime soon.”

Johnson is looking forward to getting up to Tiger Town for a visit. He’s heard many great things about Clemson and its campus, he said.

“I think it’s pretty good,” he added when asked to describe his relationship with Clemson’s coaching staff. “I think I’m the closest with Coach McKay, but I want to be able to build a connection with the others. I think it’ll be easier once I get to go on a visit and talk to them face-to-face.”

“I think he’s a good guy,” Johnson said of McKay. “He seems pretty good, knows what he’s talking about. They’ve been successful in the past.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Johnson is taking it one step at a time. He’s trying to take a patient approach to the process. He’s looking to visit most of his top schools, just so he can make a visit to each of them.

Johnson currently doesn’t have a top schools list that has been made public yet, however, he currently holds offers from Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, Indiana, Ole Miss, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgetown, NC State, Auburn, VCU, Xavier, Houston, Pitt, Memphis and most recently, Vanderbilt.

Johnson spoke with TCI back in July, after receiving an offer from the Tigers back on June 16.

Since then, he’s picked up a couple of more offers and seen his recruitment start to heat up on the recruiting trail this summer.

For Johnson, there’s currently no timetable as far as a decision goes.

Right now, he’s thinking around the next AAU season, which would be before his senior season of high school. But that’s not anything official just yet.

For now, Johnson still has an entire junior season ahead of him. He’s looking to be the leader of his team, while also adding game strength and weight.

Johnson said he’s been compared to NBA stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder because of his motor and playstyle, but he’s also been compared to Chris Paul (Phoenix Suns) due to his basketball I.Q.

“I would say that I’m a taller point guard that reads the floor well and makes good decisions,” Johnson said when asked to describe his playstyle. “Can get his teammates involved, but can also score.”

With that being said, what does Clemson like about Johnson’s game?

“They said they like that I’m a shooting point guard and then they said that they’d be out to watch me more,” Johnson added.

The main thing Johnson is looking for in a school at the next level is a “great coaching staff” and a fast-tempo offense, where he can utilize his skills in transition.

North Carolina guard talks Clemson offer with TCI

This North Carolina prospect from the Class of 2023 officially received an offer from Clemson back on Aug. 12. While it was a long-time coming and a bit of a surprise, Trey Green now has a Clemson offer under his belt. Green (5-11, 170) played his …

This North Carolina prospect from the Class of 2023 officially received an offer from Clemson back on Aug. 12.

While it was a long-time coming and a bit of a surprise, Trey Green now has a Clemson offer under his belt.

Green (5-11, 170) played his high school ball at Lake Norman Christian School before transferring this past year to a boarding school in Missouri.

He recently caught up with The Clemson Insider regarding his recent offer from Clemson and where things stand with his current recruitment.

“Clemson has reached out to me a few times in the past, like after the AAU season,” Green told TCI. “Coach Bender actually called me and it was a 15-minute conversation. He just said he liked my game and felt like I fit the program and he offered me then.”

Green’s reaction?

“I was actually pretty surprised because in the past they would send me little messages and everything about the program and just fill me in on certain things,” he said. “And then all of a sudden they just offered me. I love the coaching staff. I love Coach Bender. I like it all.”

So far, Green’s relationship with Bender is “pretty solid.”

“He’s a cool guy,” Green added. “He got to know me and my family. He actually called my dad after he offered me, just to get to know him and fill him in on everything. He’s pretty cool…He’s been reaching out.”

Bender talked with Green again just the other day. Clemson’s assistant coach is trying to get Green down to Clemson to see the campus and everything before he heads out to Missouri for school.

Green will be attending Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in Kansas City (MO.) in the fall.

He’d like to get to Clemson before he’s nearly 1,000 miles from home.

Right now, Green is trying to figure out mutual dates that work with Clemson’s coaching staff, so he can come and look at the campus, watch the men’s basketball team workout and practice. They’re aiming for this week or early next week, Green said.

This summer has provided Green an opportunity to show what he’s made of on the AAU Circuit. He’s finally gotten a chance to perform at a high level in front of college coaches from around the country. Something that wasn’t readily available this time last year because of the pandemic.

“It feels really good, to be honest,” Green said, “Especially since I’m a shorter guard. It’s kind of harder to get a lot of that ACC attention, those big-time schools, those Power 5 schools. They’ve really been coming in lately, it feels real good out there.”

“At first, I’m not gonna lie, I was a little nervous playing in front of them,” he added. “They are really locked in on you, they watch everything you do from the time you’re out there to the time you touch the bench.”

Green reiterated that it felt really good to get the attention of big-time programs, especially Clemson.

Green has seen his recruitment take off since mid-July. In fact, since July 16, in addition to Clemson, he’s picked up offers from Virginia Tech, North Carolina A&T, Western Carolina, Howard, Nebraska, Boston College, USF, Wichita State and UMass.

Prior to that, he held just one lone offer — Winthrop.

What do Clemson and Bender, specifically, like about Green’s game?

According to Green, Bender likes his athleticism, fiery competitiveness, shooting ability and the fact that he doesn’t back down from anybody.

Green is a shorter guard, but he prides himself on his shooting ability, his defense and his ball-handling skills, which he constitutes as his strengths on the court.

“I’m a really fiery guard that can defend, score at all three levels, shoot the ball and get after it,” Green said when asked to describe his playstyle.

Obviously Green still has some time before he needs to sit down and make a decision. He still has two years of high school ball left. Regardless, he’s already outlined some of the more important factors he’s looking for in a school at the next level.

“Clemson is definitely one of the top schools that I’m really considering, especially with Coach Bender and everybody there and the history behind Clemson,” he said. “I know a few good cats from where I’m from really and that I’ve worked out with that’s committed to Clemson. They talked about how they loved the system. They love Clemson.”

“I really wanna come down and see it for myself,” Green added.

Green has worked out with Tigers’ freshman guard Josh Beadle in the past.

He also knows Trenton Simpson, who’s a sophomore linebacker on Clemson’s football team.

“He told me how he loves the school and it’s a great atmosphere to be in,” Green said.

Class of 2022 Minnesota recruit discusses his top-3 schools with TCI

While Clemson still hasn’t signed a prospect as a part of its 2022 recruiting class, the Tigers are in it until the end for this Minnesota recruit.

Osseo (MN.) Senior High School’s Josh Ola-Joseph is down to Clemson, Minnesota and Loyola University Chicago.

Ola-Joseph (6-6, 200) dropped his final three schools on Monday evening via social media. He caught up with The Clemson Insider regarding his current recruitment and what went into deciding that top trio of schools.

“The relationship with the staff, how straight-forward they are,” Ola-Joseph told TCI when asked about his decision to include Clemson in his top-3 schools. “They haven’t had any 2022 commits. They haven’t offered a lot of guys. They aren’t recruiting a lot of guys. So, I feel like they’ve made me a priority. That would be one of my top choices.”

Ola-Joseph’s relationship with Clemson’s coaching staff is not just through one coach. While he has a good relationship with assistant coaches Dick Bender and Kareem Richardson, all the coaches on the staff try to reach out to him a lot.

He recently took in a Zoom call with the staff and his family. They explained the ins and outs of Clemson from what happens on the court and in the classroom.

“I just really like the staff a lot,” he said. “[Clemson] is one of the best conferences in college basketball. They have a really good media presence. I feel like that could be a place where I blow up or show that I can play at the highest level.”

Now that Clemson has had the chance to significantly recruit Ola-Joseph, the staff has informed him how they would plan to use him, should he make the decision to sign with the Tigers.

According to Ola-Joseph, Clemson views him as a “big wing,” one that can shoot the ball, take advantage of smaller guards. They would use Ola-Joseph the way he wants to be used, he said.

In AAU he posted up a lot, but a lot of teams haven’t seen what Ola-Joseph can do with the ball in his hands. Clemson saw that versatility first-hand when the Tigers came to watch him play at the MBCA Showcase in Minnesota.

In Ola-Joseph’s last conversation with TCI, he described himself as a “junkyard dog.” He added that he can guard multiple positions, which makes him “more marketable.”

Right now, Ola-Joseph doesn’t have a timetable for his decision, but he’d like to make one sooner than later. He plans on making visits to all three schools before making any final decisions.

As far as his senior season is concerned, Ola-Joseph is personally looking to develop into a better player, while shooting the ball at an improved clip. Team-wise, he wants to win more games this season.
