Social media reacts: Will Shipley declares for the 2024 NFL draft

After three great seasons at Clemson, Will Shipley is heading to the NFL.

For three years, Clemson running back Will Shipley has been one of the focal points of the Tigers’ offense.

After totaling 2,747 yards and 31 touchdowns on 526 career rushing attempts and 602 yards and two touchdowns on 85 career receptions in 1,526 offensive snaps over 36 career games from 2021-23 (27 starts), Shipley has declared for the 2024 NFL draft. His time at Clemson has come to an end as he looks to make an impact at the next level.

“I have decided to enter my name into the 2024 NFL draft,” Shipley said. “I am grateful for the last three years and am excited to see what the future holds! Although I am taking the next step of my journey, I will always be a Clemson Tiger!”

Huge news for the program: here is a look at how X (Twitter) reacted to Shipley declaring for the draft.

ESPN’s Field Yates ranks two Tigers as the top two linebackers for the 2024 NFL draft

Clemson has the two best linebackers in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft, according to this ESPN analyst.

Clemson will be very well represented in the 2024 NFL draft and could be led by two stud linebackers.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (declared) and Barrett Carter (yet to declare) are his two top-ranked linebackers for the 2024 NFL draft. Trotter earned the No.1 spot, with Carter close behind at No.2. Here is what Yates had to say for his explanation on why Trotter is his No.1 linebacker.

It will sound cliché to say this given his father was an incredible NFL linebacker, but Trotter was born to play the position. His football instincts, reaction speed and tenacity pop off the screen in film study. Trotter is just 6-foot and 230 pounds, but he overcomes his stature with his quickness and clear anticipation skills. He has 93 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions this season.

After a slow start to their season, Trotter and Carter have been arguably the best linebacker duo in the country. Trotter has been the true standout as a

Butkus Award finalist awarded to the nation’s top linebacker.
It will be interesting to see how things play out with these two. Trotter has already declared, and there is a chance he is a first-round pick, but opinions seem split on that right now. Many outlets have Carter ranked as the higher prospect, but his draft stock has taken a hit compared to what it was to start this season. Personally, I think Carter could greatly benefit from returning to Clemson for another season.

Regardless of what happens, these two linebackers have a bright future.

Clemson star linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. declares for the 2024 NFL draft

Clemson star linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is taking his talents to the NFL.

One of Clemson’s top players has made a decision on his future.

Junior linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has announced that he has declared for the 2024 NFL draft and will not participate in Clemson’s bowl game. Trotter’s final Clemson performance came in the Tigers’ 16-7 rivalry win over South Carolina.

“After long thought and prayer, I am officially announcing that I am taking the next step in a lifelong dream and declaring for the 2024 NFL draft,” Trotter wrote in an Instagram post.

“I will always be a Clemson Tiger! GO TIGERS!”

Trotter started all 12 games on the Clemson defense this season, ranking first on the team in tackles (87), tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (5.5). He had a phenomenal season, which should help his draft stock.

While it is sad to see him go, Trotter has a bright future ahead of him in the NFL.

Clemson draft prospects early rankings on the 2024 Consensus Big Board

An early look at where Clemson’s 2024 draft prospects stand heading into the college football season.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Football program saw multiple Tigers leave the program in the 2023 NFL draft as they took the next step in their football careers.

As these former Tigers move on, it is never too early to look down the line and check out where Clemson’s 2024 prospects currently stand heading into the 2023 season. This draft class was a strong one for Clemson, but 2024 has an opportunity to be an even better class than the last.

The NFL Mock Draft Database website creates a 2024 Consensus Big Board for the class using data currently compiled from five 26 big boards and 101 1st round mock drafts. It is early in the 2024 draft process, so less data is compiled than usual. However, this will build over time, and we will update accordingly as a lot can change.

Here is a look at every Clemson player who appeared on this Consensus Big Board and where they fall in the rankings currently.

ESPN projects 10 Tigers to be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft

Clemson is expected to be well-represented in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Ever Since Dabo Swinney took over as the head coach of the Clemson football program, the Tigers have seen great success in college football and beyond in the NFL Draft.

Look at the NFL right now, and there are Tigers across the league, with some being the top players at their positions. Dexter Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence, AJ Terrell, Tee Higgins, Grady Jarrett, and many more, Clemson produces stars at the next level.

According to ESPN, the 2024 NFL Draft should be another strong one for the program. Their latest article discussing the 10 college football teams with the most 2024 NFL draft prospects has ten Tigers projected to be drafted. Here is what writer and NFL draft analyst Jordan Reid had to say about the Tigers.

Top prospect to know: Barrett

Carter

, LB
Sleeper prospect to watch: Ruke Orhorhoro, IDL
Game circled on the schedule: vs. Florida State, Sept. 23

Clemson has had at least two Round 1 picks in four of the past five years, with 2022 being the exception. And it is still among the most talented teams in the country. The early intrigue is around the linebacker duo of

Carter

 and Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Carter

is a true modern-day LB — 6-foot-1, 225 pounds, physical against the run and fluid to play all types of coverages on the weak side. Trotter, the son of a former 12-year NFL pro, is an instinctive downhill player who attacks plays in front of him, and his talent is routinely on display as a run defender. At 6-foot and 230 pounds, he lacks length. He also faces challenges when attempting to detach from climbing blockers, an area where scouts want to see improvement from him this season.

Running back Will Shipley is the most exciting player on the offense. He is a compactly built rusher at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds, and his vision and suddenness often places defenders in a bind. He rushed for 1,182 yards and 15 touchdowns last season and will again be the catalyst of the team’s offensive attack. Shipley has an early-Day 3 grade by multiple scouts and projects as a complementary option in a committee backfield who can serve multiple roles.

Defensive tackles Orhorhoro and Tyler Davis surprisingly returned for their senior seasons and should make an impact, but Orhorhoro is the higher-ranked prospect. I’ve heard a lot of early-Day 2 grades on him. At 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds, he’s sturdy, powerful and versatile to fit in any scheme. In the secondary, cornerback Nate Wiggins and safety Andrew Mukuba are two names to have circled as potential risers. At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Wiggins has plenty of exciting plays on tape, but they are often followed by inconsistent moments. Mukuba — who split time between corner and safety in 2022 — failed to live up to expectations last season after earning ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, though he showed his toughness by battling through multiple injuries. He is a savvy and easy mover and could enter the early-Day 2 range now that he’s fully healthy.

Predicted first-rounders in 2024: 1
Predicted total draft picks in 2024: 10

The Clemson football program is poised to have a strong season in 2023, and that should translate to the 2024 NFL Draft. There is definitely a possibility that more than one Tiger ends up being a first-round pick.

A great look for the program.
