Titans add Clayton Geathers, Bradley McDougald among 7 roster moves

The Titans made seven roster moves on Monday.

The Tennessee Titans added a pair of safeties to their roster on Monday and waived four other players in slew of roster moves ahead of their 14th training camp practice, which will take place at Nissan Stadium on Monday night.

The team announced the additions of veteran safeties Bradley McDougald and Clayton Geathers. The former has nine years of experience in the NFL, while the latter has five years of service. Based on their experience, these players are more than just camp bodies.

McDougald has 105 career games (82 starts) under his belt and spent the 2020 campaign with the New York Jets, playing in seven games. Geathers, who has appeared in 56 games (34 starts) over his career, did not play in 2020.

On top of those moves, the Titans waived tight end Deon Yelder after just one day, defensive back Reggie Floyd, 2021 UDFA and punter, James Smith, and defensive back Maurice Smith (injured). Cornerback Kevin Peterson was placed on Injured Reserve as well.

The Titans continue to shuffle their options at safety, as the team just added Floyd last Wednesday, along with Tedric Thompson. Safety Dane Cruikshank has been absent from practice with what we would assume is an injury.

Tennessee will have to trim its roster down to 85 by Tuesday, the first of three cutdown days. The next two will come on Aug. 24 and Aug. 31.

4 pending free agents the Colts should let walk

Colts should let these pending free agents walk.

2020 will be one of the biggest offseasons in recent Indianapolis Colts’ history. After finishing the season losing five of the final six games, the Colts finished 7-9 and have a lot of questions about their roster going into the offseason.

Indianapolis has a few free agents going into the offseason and with a projected $93 million in cap space, there is no strap for cash to keep the guys they want to.

The Colts have 14 unrestricted free agents. These players will be able to sign with anyone in March when the new league year starts. Or the Colts can sign them to an extension beforehand. But not all of the pending free agents should be re-signed.

Let’s look at some unrestricted free agents that the Colts should let go:

Indystar

K Adam Vinatieri

Last offseason, the Colts brought back Vinatieri on a one-year deal. As the oldest player in the league at age 46 going into the 2019 season, there were questions if Vinatieri could still kick at a high level.

After suffering a knee injury that had him miss most of the training camp and the preseason, Vinatieri struggled out of the gate missing two field goals and two extra points in the first two games of the season. The Colts tried out some kickers but stuck with Vinatieri.

Vinatieri was put on injured reserve after going 1 of 4 versus the Tennessee Titans, one of which was blocked, and the Colts turned to rookie Chase McLaughlin.

McLaughlin finished the final five games 5 of 6 on field goals and a perfect 11 of 11 on extra points. Indianapolis re-signed McLaughlin to a one-year extension on December 30.

5 Colts who may be playing final game for Indy on Sunday

Which Colts might not return after Sunday’s game?

The Indianapolis Colts (7-8) are visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-10) for the regular-season finale on Sunday at TIAA Bank Field.

As the regular season comes to an end, the Colts will have plenty of decisions to make when the offseason arrives. Among them includes who to re-sign and which players to let walk into free agency.

Here are five Colts who may be playing their final game for Indy on Sunday:

IndyStar

TE Eric Ebron

So technically Ebron won’t be playing on Sunday, but there is a chance he doesn’t return to Indy this offseason. After a career season in 2018, Ebron’s production dipped massively in 2019. Then he elected to have surgery on both of his ankles, which ended his season.

The Colts have shown that they love Ebron’s talent as a move tight end, but there is a chance they look to more of a consistent option as a pass catcher to work alongside TE1 Jack Doyle. Ebron is still a talented tight end, but his injuries and reduced role in 2019 could be reasons he doesn’t return.

Stock up, stock down in Colts’ loss to Bucs

Stock report from the Week 14 loss.

Losers in five of their last six games, the Indianapolis Colts (6-7) have seen their season go from being a potential division winner to out of the playoffs in the matter of a month and a half.

Sunday’s 38-35 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7) all but closed the casket on the Colts’ season—if they lose in Week 15 to the New Orleans Saints, it is officially over.

Stock Up: WR Marcus Johnson

The Colts have been seriously plagued with injuries at the wide receiver position this season. That said, there have been some intriguing instances when it comes to players stepping up when needed most. The latest player to do so was Johnson.

Leading the team with 105 receiving yards, Johnson got his day started on Jacoby Brissett’s first pass, beating broken coverage for a 46-yard touchdown bomb early in the first quarter.

The Colts have always liked Johnson and he’s proving to be a quality depth piece in the wide receiver room.

Stock up, stock down in Colts’ loss to Dolphins

Stock report following the Colts’ loss in Week 10.

The Indianapolis Colts (5-4) have to take a long look in the mirror following the embarrassing 16-12 loss they suffered at home against the Miami Dolphins (2-7) on Sunday.

Even though they were without a few starters, there is no excuse for losing to a team like the Dolphins—especially if the Colts are supposed to be considered a team bound for the playoffs.

Here’s a look at the stock report in the Week 10 loss:

Stock Up: LB Darius Leonard

The All-Pro linebacker hasn’t quite lived up to expectations this season and while he’s also dealt with some injuries, it was nice to see him return to his elite form. No one is doubting the impact Leonard has on a weekly basis, but this was truly his best game of the season.

The former second-round pick started off the game hot by punching out a fumble against Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki. He also added a sack, two tackles for loss, two passes defended and a crucial interception in the fourth quarter.

The Colts have a massive stretch of games coming up, and they will need Leonard to play like this for the second half.
