Billy Napier thinks incoming tight end could be a hidden gem

Billy Napier is high on incoming tight end Hayden Hansen.

Billy Napier couldn’t believe what he saw when tight end Hayden Hansen worked out for him at Lousiana.

The 6-foot-6-inch, 256-pounder impressed with his size and work ethic before quickly committing to the Ragin’ Cajuns in August. When Napier left ULL, Hansen followed him. Colorado was his only other Power Five offer, and the likes of Sam Houston, UTSA and Washington State threw their hat into the ring after he decommitted from Lousiana. All it took was an official visit to Florida and an offer to play in the Southeastern Conference to seal the deal.

Hansen is a three-star recruit who is No. 109 at his position, according to the 247Sports Composite, but Napier thinks he has plenty of upside. He started off playing quarterback in high school, so he’s still learning the little things at tight end.

“A couple games into his junior year they moved him to tight end,” Napier said to 247Sports. “He kind of buys into that. The film wasn’t great as a junior. He would tell you that. But he took a big step forward.

“And he ran a 4.79, 4.81 (40-yard dash) for us at UL. And a big man with hands, and I think his ceiling is really high.”

Not only does Hansen have the size and speed to play in college football’s toughest conference, but he also fits Florida’s new scheme as well. Napier ran the ball more often than he passed at Lousiana and he’s trying to establish the same culture quickly at Florida. His scheme requires versatile tight ends and Hansen is just that.

It will likely be years before Napier knows whether he was right about Hansen or not, but he considers the 2022 signee to be one of his staff’s “better evaluations” of the period. Spring practice should give a little more insight into how Hansen is progressing.

The top 10 remaining 2022 recruits after the All-American Bowl

USA TODAY High School Sports takes a look at the top 2022 recruits left after the All-American Bowl.

The All-American Bowl has come and gone with numerous elite recruits announcing their commitments, but there is still plenty of class of 2022 talent available for the taking.

Two of the top 10 recruits in the class of 2022 remain uncommitted with the All-American Bowl in the books. Shemar Stewart and Devon Campbell are still searching for a home and are expected to commit on National Signing Day in February.

Let’s take a look at the recruits who join Stewart and Campbell as the top-remaining class of 2022 recruits on the market.

Florida basketball signs 3 players to complete 2022 recruiting class

Florida signed Malik Reneau, Jalen Reed and Denzel Aberdeen during the early signing period on Wednesday.

Gators men’s basketball coach Mike White is perhaps best known for his abilities as a recruiter, and he hauled in another fantastic class for the 2022 cycle as three players signed their National Letters of Intent on early signing day on Wednesday.

Headlined by power forward Malik Reneau, a five-star recruit from Montverde Academy in Florida (the same school that produced former UF players Andrew Nembhard and Omar Payne), Florida’s class ranks 19th in the nation and fourth in the SEC.

In addition to Reneau, who is the No. 25 player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite, Florida added another top-100 recruit in four-star power forward Jalen Reed (No. 89), a southern California native, and three-star combo guard Denzel Aberdeen (No. 193) from Dr. Phillips in Orlando.

This is White’s highest-ranked class since 2019 when he signed five stars Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann, as well as Payne. And it may not be done quite yet.

The Gators have quite a bit of time between now and the regular signing day on April 22, and there are several other players they are targeting that could join the class. White will look to build on what is already one of his better recruiting classes in Gainesville.
