LSU legacy CJ Wiley commits to Florida State over Tigers, Georgia in stunner

We thought it was a two-team race for CJ Wiley between LSU and Georgia, but it was FSU that ultimately closed with him.

While it looked like we were shaping up for a two-man race between LSU and Georgia for Tigers legacy and Milton, Georgia, receiver [autotag]CJ Wiley[/autotag], the four-star prospect threw everyone a curveball on Tuesday.

Wiley, the son of former LSU and NFL defensive end [autotag]Chuck Wiley[/autotag], committed to the Florida State Seminoles, the third team in his list of finalists. FSU was not considered to be in the mix as much as the Bulldogs or Tigers, and Wiley told Sports Illustrated’s Zack Nagy that he made his decision the day of his commitment and didn’t communicate it with Seminoles coaches ahead of time.

Wiley, the No. 136 player nationally and No. 15 receiver, had received multiple crystal ball projections in favor of Georgia before making his decision.

LSU legacy receiver target receives crystal ball to Georgia days before commitment

LSU seems to have some ground to make up for CJ Wiley just a few days before he’s set to commit.

LSU is hoping to add to its already strong 2025 recruiting class with a legacy in four-star receiver [autotag]CJ Wiley[/autotag], son of former Tigers defensive end [autotag]Chuck Wiley[/autotag].

However, it seems LSU has some ground to make up just a couple of days before Wiley is set to commit on Tuesday. On Sunday, he received a crystal ball projection in favor of Georgia from 247Sports’ Benjamin Wolk, the second he has received for the Bulldogs so far.

UGA is also an 82.3% favorite to land him according to On3’s recruiting prediction machine. He visited Athens earlier this month followed by a trip to LSU and is set to commit coming off a visit to Florida State this past weekend.

The Milton, Georgia, native who ranks as the No. 136 player nationally and No. 15 receiver, will decide between those three teams on Tuesday.

LSU trending for several top prospects after another busy recruiting weekend

The Tigers are in good shape for a few of their top targets after another busy official visit weekend.

We’re more than two weeks into the month of June, and that means the rush of official visits is upon us.

The Tigers have been hard at work building on a 2025 class that ranks as high as No. 2 nationally, and they seem to have made progress with some of the top uncommitted targets in the cycle, according to LSU Country’s Zack Nagy.

Receiver [autotag]CJ Wiley[/autotag], son of former LSU defensive end [autotag]Chuck Wiley[/autotag], seems to be down to two teams in LSU and in-state Georgia, according to Nagy. Meanwhile, the Tigers reportedly made up some ground on favored Texas A&M with the nation’s top safety [autotag]Jonah Williams[/autotag].

LSU baseball coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] even stepped in to help recruit the two-sports star.

One player the Tigers seem to be in good shape for is Carius Curne, the top interior offensive lineman in the nation. LSU holds several predictions to land him, and he set a commitment date for Wednesday after his visit.

Finally, Nagy reports that [autotag]Charles Ross[/autotag], a four-star linebacker from Texas who committed to LSU in March, is shutting down his recruitment after a successful official visit this weekend.

LSU already has a strong foundation for its class with the top overall recruit in quarterback [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag] serving as the headliner. If it can close with some of these players, it has a real chance to finish with the nation’s top class.

4-star LSU legacy receiver CJ Wiley announces 3 finalists, commitment date

CJ Wiley is the son of former LSU defensive end Chuck Wiley.

LSU is looking to add to its receiver class after losing a commitment from No. 1 wideout [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag] — who it remains in the mix for — last month.

The Tigers are in luck as they made the cut for four-star receiver [autotag]CJ Wiley[/autotag], son of former LSU defensive end [autotag]Chuck Wiley[/autotag]. They’re joined by Georgia and Florida State, according to On3’s Chad Simmons.

The Milton (Alpharetta, Ga.) prospect ranks as the No. 136 player in the 2025 cycle and the nation’s No. 15 receiver. He’s officially visited the Tigers and Bulldogs in the last two weeks, and he has a visit set in Tallahassee next weekend.

The Tigers have an 11-man 2025 class that ranks as high as No. 2 nationally, but it currently features just one receiver commitment from four-star New Orleans prospect [autotag]TaRon Francis[/autotag].

LSU offers the son of a former Tigers defensive lineman

Brian Kelly has extended a scholarship offer to the son of former LSU Tiger Chuck Wiley.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has extended a scholarship offer to the son of a former LSU Tiger.

[autotag]Chuck Wiley[/autotag] was a star defensive lineman for the LSU Tigers from 1994-97. Wiley holds the record for the second most tackles for loss in LSU history with 43. Chuck has now passed his athletic torch to his son, [autotag]CJ Wiley[/autotag].

CJ is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound, four-star wide receiver from Alpharetta, Georgia but he plays for Milton High School in Milton, Georgia. The Milton Eagles are one of the best high school football programs in Georgia and they are preparing to play for the 7A state championship against Walton tonight at 7 PM.

There are currently no Crystal Ball projections for Wiley but the Georgia Bulldogs are a 34% favorite to land him per On3.

Film Analysis: Wiley has yet to post film from this season so this is last year’s film from when he played for Alpharetta High School.

Two former Ravens players sign with Giants’ practice squad

Former Baltimore Ravens safety Tony Jefferson and linebacker Chuck Wiley have reportedly been signed to the New York Giants practice squad.

The Baltimore Ravens cut their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday at the league’s 4pm EST deadline. There were many surprises in who the Ravens decided to waive, with one of them being safety Tony Jefferson. Another player let go by the team was rookie outside linebacker Chuck Wiley.

Less than 24 hours later, both Jefferson and Wiley have reportedly found a new NFL team. Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reported that both Jefferson and Wiley will join the New York Giants practice squad, reuniting with former Baltimore defensive coordinator Don Martindale.

The Ravens will face off against the Giants in Week 6 of the 2022 season in the Meadowlands. It remains to be seen if both Wiley and Jefferson would be on the active roster or called up from the practice squad for the game, but both players will head to New York for their next football chapter.

Top 101 LSU football players of all time: No. 90-81

The countdown continues with the next 10 players on our list.

LSU football has been around for a long time. Since 1893, to be exact.

In that span, plenty of great football players have come through the program. Before we begin the journey of the 2022 season, I thought I’d take a stab at ranking the 101 best players in LSU history.

A few days ago, we began our countdown with Nos. 101-91.

I have tried to avoid recency bias as much as possible. It can be hard to get enough information about older players, but I did my best to get them about in the ballpark of where they should be.

Anytime there’s a list this big, people will disagree. There’s so little that separates the 50th player from the 70th, and so on.

I tried to balance consistency over multiple seasons with some players that had one great year. Both have been rewarded here. With that in mind, let’s continue the countdown.
