Four former Duke basketball players stay in the ACC after transfer portal moves

Jaylen Blakes, Christian Reeves, Jaden Schutt, and TJ Power will all still play ACC basketball next season despite leaving Duke.

All seven Duke basketball transfers have chosen their next destinations, and four of them didn’t feel like leaving the ACC just yet.

Jaylen Blakes, a guard who spent three years with Duke, announced on Friday that he’d play for the Stanford Cardinal. Stanford, a longtime Pac-12 staple, will transition to the ACC for the 2023-24 academic calendar after its old conference fell apart.

Blakes will stay on the conference calendar alongside three of his old teammates. 7-foot center Christian Reeves announced he’d play for the Clemson Tigers, TJ Power left for Virginia after just one season, and sharpshooter Jaden Schutt jumped to Virginia Tech.

The Blue Devils don’t have the exact dates on their calendar yet, but they will host the Cardinal and the Hokies at Cameron Indoor Stadium in 2024-25. They will also travel to Clemson and Virginia, rounding out all four revenge games.

Clemson lands massive transfer portal commitment from former Duke center Christian Reeves

Clemson makes a huge splash in the transfer portal.

Brad Brownell and the Clemson men’s basketball team just made a huge splash in the transfer portal.

Former Duke center Christian Reeves named his top four choices recently and today, he announced that Clemson is the choice. Reeves has committed to Clemson, a massive commitment for the Tigers in the portal. A 7-foot-1 who spent two seasons with the Blue Devil, Reeves will look to make a major impact as he joins a Clemson team that needed a big man with the departure of PJ Hall for the NBA.

Reeves played just three games in 2024 due to injury, leading to a redshirt season for the big man. According to 247Sports composite rankings, Reeves was the No. 26 center and the No. 145 overall player in the 2022 class.

Reeves will look to have a breakout season with the Tigers.

Duke center Christian Reeves enters transfer portal

Duke center Christian Reeves plans to enter transfer portal.

Duke redshirt sophomore Christian Reeves plans to enter the transfer portal, per On3’s Joe Tipton.

The center redshirted this past season after he underwent lower right ankle surgery. He was ruled out for the season in February. Reeves played just three games this year, seeing limited minutes.

He played 13 games in his freshman season, and Reeves will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Reeves, a 7-foot-1-inch, 261-pound center, committed to Duke as a three-star recruit. He is the first Duke Blue Devil to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

He may not be the only frontcourt loss, either, as All-American 7-footer Kyle Filipowski could declare for the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Blue Devils are adding five-star center Khaman Maluach and four-star center Patrick Ngongba II from the 2024 recruiting class for next season.
