The PFL is back for its third and final set of playoff semifinals. This week, women’s lightweights and featherweights are on the docket.

The 2022 PFL Playoffs 3 event takes place Saturday at Copper Box Arena in London. The main card airs on ESPN following prelims on ESPN+ and ahead of post-lim qualifiers on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, two-time season winner [autotag]Kayla Harrison[/autotag] (14-0) is not the No. 1 seed. She’s No. 2 against No. 3 [autotag]Martina Jindrova[/autotag] (6-2). But she’s still a massive -5000 favorite at Tipico Sportsbook; the comeback on Jindrova is +1200. Not surprisingly, all of our 11 editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers are taking Harrison to move on to another $1 million final.

At featherweight, there’s a lot of heat and trash talk between No. 1 seed [autotag]Chris Wade[/autotag] (22-7) and No. 4 [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag] (24-4). Wade is a -260 favorite, but our pickers have him with the slimmest possible 6-5 lead in the picks. His fight is the only contentious one among our pickers.

In the other women’s lightweight semifinal, [autotag]Larissa Pacheco[/autotag] (17-4) is the No. 1 seed against [autotag]Olena Kolesnyk[/autotag] (7-4). Pacheco is a huge favorite at -850 and is another of our unanimous picks.

And in the second featherweight semifinal on the main card, No. 2 seed [autotag]Ryoji Kudo[/autotag] (11-3-1) takes on No. 3 [autotag]Bubba Jenkins[/autotag] (18-5). Jenkins is a big -350 favorite at the betting window and has the support of all 11 of our pickers.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Harrison (87 percent), Wade (57 percent), Pacheco (83 percent) and Jenkins (84 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.

Ahead of PFL Playoffs semifinals, Brendan Loughnane says he’s used to fighting wrestlers like Chris Wade

“I’m used to this style and hey, I might take him down.”

For [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Wade[/autotag] doesn’t present anything he’s never seen before.

Loughnane (24-4) faces Wade (22-7) at 2022 PFL Playoffs 3, which takes place Saturday at Copper Box Arena in London. The main card airs on ESPN following prelims on ESPN+ and ahead of post-lim qualifiers on ESPN+.

The native of Manchester, England, says he’s faced strong wrestlers numerous times throughout his career. He’s even landed eight takedowns in his wins over Ryoji Kudo and Ago Huskic in the regular season and isn’t afraid to show off that part of his game if necessary.

“(I’ve fought) a lot of wrestlers: Pat Healy, Tyler Diamond, Movlid Khaybulaev,” Loughnane told MMA Junkie Radio. “So I’m used to this, and guys have just been trying to take me down from the start of my career, from 16 years old. I’m used to this style. And hey, I might take him down. Look at my last two fights – you never know. Eight takedowns in two fights – wow. That’s more than my whole career put together.”

Loughnane likes to throw his hands, too, but isn’t ready to predict a finish just based off the history of both fighters’ durability.

“There’s a crazy stat, maybe I’m mistaken, but I’m 24-4, he’s 22-7 and neither of us have been finished,” Loughnane said. “How about that? How crazy is that? So you’re talking about a lot of MMA experience and two good chins, so it’s going to make for a dog fight for sure.”

Kayla Harrison starts quest for third PFL title in London – but not as the No. 1 seed

The lineup is set for the PFL’s third and final set of playoff fights next month in London.

The lineup is set for the PFL’s third and final set of playoff fights next month in London.

Two-time women’s lightweight season winner and No. 2 seed [autotag]Kayla Harrison[/autotag] (14-0) will headline the card against No. 3 [autotag]Martina Jindrova[/autotag] (6-2) in one of two semifinal fights in the division.

The other half of the bracket features No. 1 [autotag]Larisa Pacheco[/autotag] (17-4) vs. No. 4 [autotag]Olena Kolesnyk[/autotag] (7-4). Pacheco, who lost to Harrison in the 2019 final, finished both her regular season fights in the first round for 12 points to earn the top seed. Harrison and Jindrova finished the regular season with 9 points, while Kolesnyk had 6 for the fourth playoff spot.

The event also features the two semifinal playoff bouts at featherweight. No. 1 seed [autotag]Chris Wade[/autotag] (22-7) takes on No. 4 [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag] (22-7) and No. 2 [autotag]Ryoji Kudo[/autotag] (11-3-1) meets No. 3 [autotag]Bubba Jenkins[/autotag] (18-5).

The PFL’s third set of playoff fights take place Aug. 20 at Copper Box Arena in London. The four-fight main card of playoff matchups airs on ESPN. A four-fight set of prelims and four fights after the main card stream on ESPN+.

The playoffs open two weeks prior in New York with lightweights and light heavyweights. Then welterweights and heavyweights meet Aug. 13 in Cardiff, Wales.

“Heading to London is huge for the expansion of the league,” PFL president Ray Sefo stated. “We are bringing our brand of MMA to the U.K. and I’m sure they are going to be as excited as I am to see elite fighters like Kayla Harrison, Chris Wade and Brendan Loughnane compete with so much on the line.”

Harrison won the second of her two judo Olympic gold medals at the 2012 Games in London. Now she returns to the city a decade later.

In addition, the PFL announced the signing of muay Thai standout Dakota Ditcheva (5-0), a prized free agent from Manchester, England. The three-time muay Thai world champion is unbeaten early in her MMA career and is considered one of the sport’s top female prospects. Her mother, Lisa Howarth, was a world kickboxing champion.

“We are excited to add Dakota to the global PFL talent roster,” Sefo stated. “Dakota’s outstanding skill set and ability, along with her natural charisma, fit perfectly with the PFL brand of MMA. We believe the PFL is uniquely placed to take her journey forward on a global scale. Coming from a line of elite muay Thai practitioners, we have confidence in Dakota to go to the very top with the PFL and continue her family’s legacy.”

2022 PFL salaries from Atlanta: Anthony Pettis tops disclosed payouts despite loss; Kayla Harrison second

This marks the first time that PFL salaries have been revealed in 2022.

The back half of the 2022 PFL regular season recently took place in Atlanta with three cards in three weeks at Overtime Elite Arena.

Each card spotlighted two specific divisions. PFL 4 took place June 17 and featured men’s lightweights and light heavyweights. One week later, PFL 5 featured featherweights and heavyweights. Last Friday, PFL 6 consisted of welterweights and women’s lightweights.

On Wednesday, MMA Junkie acquired a list of disclosed show and win purses from the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission, the regulatory body that oversaw the events.

Former UFC lightweight champion [autotag]Anthony Pettis[/autotag] ($750,000) led all paydays despite a submission loss to [autotag]Stevie Ray[/autotag]. Two-time PFL season winner [autotag]Kayla Harrison[/autotag] ($500,00) was second on the list, followed by former UFC title challenger and Bellator welterweight champion [autotag]Rory MacDonald[/autotag] ($250,000).

[autotag]Jeremy Stephens[/autotag], [autotag]Lance Palmer[/autotag], [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag], [autotag]Omari Akhmedov[/autotag], and [autotag]Magomed Magomedkerimov[/autotag] also received six-figure disclosed payouts.

It’s important to note that the figures given do not reflect potential “locker room” bonuses, streaming points, or promotional sponsorship payments.

2022 PFL 5 results: Chris Wade crushes Kyle Bochniak, secures top playoff seed

Chris Wade delivered a statement performance at 2022 PFL 5 to land the top seed in the featherweight standings going into the playoffs.

[autotag]Chris Wade[/autotag] delivered a statement performance at 2022 PFL 5 to land the top seed in the featherweight standings going into the playoffs.

Wade (22-7) faced fellow UFC veteran [autotag]Kyle Bochniak[/autotag] (11-7) on Friday’s card at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, and he needed less than one round to land a grazing head kick and ground-and-pound that netted him six points and the No. 1 seed at 155 pounds.

Check out the replay of Wade’s handiwork in the highlight below (via Twitter):

With the win, Wade is set to fight No. 4 seed Brendan Loughnane in the first round of the playoffs later this year.

After beating Lance Palmer, Chris Wade wants to get his hands on Brendan Loughnane ‘so, so badly’

“I want to get my hands on Brendan so badly – so, so badly. I see the finals as me and him for sure.”

ARLINGTON, Texas – [autotag]Chris Wade[/autotag] knows who he wants to face, but thinks it’ll likely happen in the final.

A finalist in the 2021 season, Wade (21-7) defeated Lance Palmer (22-6) by unanimous decision Thursday at 2022 PFL 2 at Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

On the same night, Brendan Loughnane beat Ryoji Kudo by technical decision. Not only can Wade not wait to face him, but he didn’t think he won his fight.

“I want to get my hands on Brendan so badly – so, so badly,” Wade told reporters following PFL 2. “I see the finals as me and him for sure. Yeah, this first fight they didn’t give me any huge favors giving me a two-time world champ out of the gate as a finalist. To me, the guy that (Loughnane) got to fight being like a -1200 favorite, that was like – come on, dude.

“But that dude proved he was tough, too. I was really surprised. I felt bad that he took that cut on his forehead. He was a goer. I didn’t think Brendan won that fight, honestly. We couldn’t hear anything back there, but he didn’t look like he won that fight to me.”

Having already beaten standout wrestler Bubba Jenkins last season, Wade has now added another Division-I wrestler and former champion to his resume. Although not a lot of wrestling was displayed, Wade was happy to get a win over a name like Palmer.

“It’s amazing,” Wade said. “That’s a legacy fight for me, just like the Bubba Jenkins fight, because we all grew up wrestling and those guys are elite wrestlers that have transitioned successfully into MMA. So for me, beating a two-time world champ, you can’t ask for much more than that.”

Check out the full post-fight interview with Wade in the video above.

The PFL is back for the second week of its 2022 season with featherweights and heavyweights on the bill.

PFL 2022, Week 2 takes place Thursday at Esports Arena in Arlington, Texas. The main card airs on ESPN2 following prelims on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, 2021 heavyweight season champion [autotag]Bruno Cappelozza[/autotag] (14-5) takes on [autotag]Stuart Austin[/autotag] (15-7). Cappelozza is a heavy betting favorite to start the season out with a win, and all 11 of our editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers have him as one of three unanimous picks on the main card.

In the co-feature, two-time season champion [autotag]Lance Palmer[/autotag] (22-5) will try to get back on the right track at featherweight against [autotag]Chris Wade[/autotag] (20-7). Wade came up short in the 2021 final. But Palmer has not won a fight since his 2019 title; he lost both his fights in 2021. Wade is a slight betting favorite, but it’s Palmer with a big 8-3 lead in the picks.

The second biggest favorite on the card is [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag] (21-4), who takes on [autotag]Ryoji Kudo[/autotag] (10-2-1) in a featherweight bout to open the regular season. Loughnane is one of our three unanimous picks.

[autotag]Renan Ferreira[/autotag] (8-2) meets [autotag]Jamelle Jones[/autotag] (12-7) in a heavyweight bout. Brazil’s Ferreira is as much as an 8-1 betting favorite, but he’s not a unanimous pick. Still, he’s got a sizable 8-3 lead from our staff pickers.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Denis Goltsov[/autotag] (27-7) is our third unanimous pick against heavyweight late-notice replacement [autotag]Cody Goodale[/autotag] (8-5). Goltsov is the biggest favorite on the card.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Cappelozza (94 percent), Palmer (55 percent), Loughnane (90 percent), Ferreira (89 percent) and Goltsov (85 percent) are the choices.

2021 PFL Championship results: Movlid Khaybulaev grinds out Chris Wade to earn $1 million

Movlid Khaybulaev outwrestles Chris Wade to remain undefeated and earn $1 million in the featherweight final.

The main card opener was the third of six championship bouts on Wednesday evening, pitting [autotag]Movlid Khaybulaev[/autotag] against Chris Wade.

With $1 million and a title on the line, there was little room for error on such a big stage. Khaybulaev (19-0-1 MMA, 4-0-1 PFL) leaned on what he does best over the course of 25 minutes, grinding out Wade (20-7 MMA, 8-3 PFL) with smothering wrestling to earn the unanimous decision victory with all three judges turning in scores of 50-45.

2021 PFL Championship took place Wednesday at Seminole Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Hollywood, Fla. The main card aired on ESPN2/ESPN+ after prelims on ESPN+.

The fighters spent the opening moments of the bout trying to find the range as they exchanged quick strikes. Khaybulaev would get his opponent’s attention with a hard right hand before initiating a clinch against the fence. Wade defended a couple of trip attempts and separated briefly, but Khaybulaev would engage again seconds later and complete a takedown.

Wade did well to prevent damage and brought the fight back to the feet again, but Khabuylaev took the fight to the mat again and ended up on the back until the round came to a close.

Early in the second, Wade offered an array of kicks in the center of the cage, but Khaybulaev evaded successfully. After a clinch along the fence that stalled, the two were separated by the ref. Back in space, both fighters let the strikes fly for a few moments, landing clean punches.

Khaybulaev returned to the clinch work, but Wade stifled his progress, eventually breaking free. A cut over Wade’s right eye was opened in the closing moments of the round from a knee strike.

Khaybulaev continued to keep the pressure high early in the third round by wrestling with Wade, bringing him to the canvas, and taking his back briefly. Wade would eventually reverse positions to put Khaybulaev’s back against the fence, but the clinch stalled and was broken up by the referee.

Undeterred, Khaybulaev went right back to the wrestling to score more control time until the third round came to a close.

The fourth round began just like the previous frame with Khaybulaev quickly getting control of Wade and bringing the fight to the mat. The dominant wrestling of Khaybulaev left Wade searching for answers to change the course of the fight.

Khaybulaev continued his effective gameplan in the fifth round, utilizing his wrestling skills to keep Wade neutralized. Wade threatened a tight armlock and a kneebar, but ultimately nothing would come of it, and the fight would conclude after Khaybulaev dominated the control time to earn the victory.

Khaybulaev, 31, remains undefeated through 20 professional fights. This year he defeated Lazar Stojadinovic, Lance Palmer, Brendan Loughnane, and now Wade, in route to becoming the 2021 PFL featherweight champion and taking home the $1 million prize.

For Wade, 34, his strong 2021 PFL run comes to an end in the championship bout. This season, he defeated Anthony Dizy, Arman Ospanov, and Bubba Jenkins to reach the last fight, but Khaybulaev was just too much to overcome on Wednesday evening.

The up-to-the-minute 2021 PFL Championship results include:

  • Movlid Khaybulaev def. Chris Wade via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) – featherweight final
  • Antonio Carlos Junior def. Marthin Hamlet via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 1, 3:49 – light heavyweight final
  • Raush Manfio def. Loik Radzhabov via unanimous decision (48-46, 48-46, 49-46) – lightweight final
  • Jordan Young def. Omari Akhmedov via TKO (punches) – Round 3, 1:32
  • Julia Budd def. Kaitlin Young via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Don Madge def. Nathan Williams via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 2, 2:15
