4 things to know about Colts’ assistant OL coach Chris Watt

Here are four things to know about Colts new assistant offensive line coach Chris Watt.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen moved swiftly to fill his staff, and another coach with ties to Notre Dame has been hired. The team will bring former Chargers offensive lineman and Notre Dame graduate assistant Chris Watt aboard.

Watt will partner with Tony Sparano Jr. to oversee offensive line efforts on the heels of former Colts offensive line coach Chris Strausser joining the Houston Texans.

Let’s take a look at four things to know about Chris Watt:

Texans hire ex-Colts OL coach Chris Strausser

The Texans have hired former Colts OL coach Chris Strausser.

The Houston Texans are hiring former Indianapolis Colts offensive line coach Chris Strausser for the same role, per Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston on Tuesday.

Strausser interviewed for the vacancy earlier this month as the potential replacement for George Warhop, who was hired under the Lovie Smith regime.

Strausser joined the Colts coaching staff during the 2019 offseason as the offensive line coach and held the role for four seasons since the team parted ways with former offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo.

The Colts offensive line allowed the second-most sacks (60) in the NFL during the 2022 season.

The Colts are currently building out their coaching staff under new head coach Shane Steichen, and there is one leading candidate for the role.

Regardless, Strausser will be staying in the division as the offensive line coach for the Texans new head coach in DeMeco Ryans.

Colts’ Chris Strausser ‘a leading candidate’ for Texans OL coach

Colts OL coach Chris Strausser is reportedly a leading candidate for the same job with the Texans.

While the Indianapolis Colts zero in on Shane Steichen as their next head coach, their current offensive line coach Chris Strausser is reportedly a leading candidate for the same role with the Houston Texans.

As Texans new head coach DeMeco Ryans puts together his staff in Houston, it appears Strausser has become the favorite for the offensive line coach job after it was made known veteran coach George Warhop won’t be retained.

Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston reported that Strausser is a leading candidate for the role.

Strausser joined the Colts coaching staff during the 2019 offseason as the offensive line coach and has held the role for four seasons since the team parted ways with former offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo.

It’s unlikely that Strausser would be retained with a new head coach coming in but it appears he may be staying in the division as a favorite for the job with Houston.

Report: Texans to hire Colts’ Chris Strausser as OL coach, drop George Warhop

The Houston Texans are looking to hire Indianapolis Colts OL coach Chris Strausser as they move on from George Warhop.

The Houston Texans aren’t looking too far for a new offensive line coach.

According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, the Texans are moving on from current offensive line coach George Warhop, who was with the team for one season as the OL coach under Lovie Smith.

The Texans are reportedly targeting Indianapolis Colts offensive line coach to take the same job. Strausser has been with the Colts since 2019.

The Colts hired Strausser in 2019 when then-coach Frank Reich reached out to him despite having no formal introduction. The move worked until 2022 as the Colts gave up the fourth-fewest sacks from 2019-21, and guard Quenton Nelson and center Ryan Kelly both earned Pro Bowl selections in 2021.
