Projected starting pitcher for Vols’ opening game against Florida State

Tennessee baseball announces starting pitcher against Florida State in the College World Series on Friday.

Tennessee (55-12) graduate pitcher Chris Stamos will start for the Vols on Friday in the College World Series. Tennessee will play Florida State (47-15) at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.

First pitch against the Seminoles is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT (ESPN).

Stamos (3-0) has appeared in 20 games, including nine starts this season. He has recorded 35 strikeouts and a 4.02 ERA.

Stamos is also 3-0 during postseason play this season. He started against Evansville in the Knoxville Super Regional and pitched 1.1 innings. Stamos allowed two earned runs and two hits, while recording three strikeouts. He totaled 27 pitches, including, 16 strikes, against six Evansville batters.

Tennessee announces starting pitcher for Texas A&M game

Tennessee baseball announces starting pitcher for the Texas A&M game on Thursday in the SEC Tournament.

Christ Stamos will make his seventh start for Tennessee (46-11) on Thursday during the 2024 season. No. 1 seed Tennessee announced Stamos will start against No. 4 seed Texas A&M (44-12) in the SEC Tournament.

First pitch between the Vols and Aggies is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.

SEC Network will televise the matchup.

Stamos (3-0) recorded 29 strikeouts and a 3.42 ERA for Tennessee in 2024.

He transferred to the Vols from California ahead of the 2024 campaign. Stamos appeared in 36 games, including five starts, at California from 2022-23. He recorded 46 strikeouts and a 6.75 ERA.

Stamos transferred to California from Principia College. He played at Principia College from 2019-20.

Vols hit six home runs in series opening win against Missouri

Tennessee baseball wins series opener against Missouri.

No. 3 Tennessee (35-7, 13-6 SEC) defeated Missouri (19-24, 6-13 SEC), 10-1, Thursday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee hit six home runs against Missouri, marking the fifth time the Vols have hit five home runs in a game this season.

Billy Amick went 3-for-5. He hit a solo home run and a three-run home run. He recorded four RBIs and two runs, while Christian Moore went 3-for-4. Moore hit a solo home run to lead off the first inning for Tennessee. He recorded two runs and one RBI.

Hunter Ensley went 1-fot-3 and hit a solo home runs for the Vols. Cal Stark also went 1-for-3. Stark hit a three-run home run, while Cannon Peebles hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the eighth inning, his first of the season.

AJ Causey (7-3) pitched six innings in relief for the Vols. He allowed one run, six hits and two walks, while recording six strikeouts.

Chris Stamos started and pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three hits. He recorded three strikeouts.

Matthew Dallas recorded the final out of the game, totaling two pitches.

The Vols completed a triple play against Oklahoma. The triple play is Tennessee’s first since Feb. 22, 1997 against Eastern Kentucky.

Tennessee walked two Oklahoma batters to begin the seventh inning. Pitcher Chris Stamos made a diving catch on a sacrifice bunt attempt and threw the ball to shortstop Christian Moore, who tagged second base and then the base runner arriving to the bag to complete a 1-6 triple play.

Senior California pitcher Chris Stamos announced he will play for the Vols in 2023.

“I am so thankful for my experience at Cal and the wonderful relationships I made,” Stamos announced. “Now, I’m so excited to announce my commitment to the University of Tennessee to continue my baseball career and a graduate degree!”
