WR Chris Moore gets Pat Tillman jersey after playing role of Jaylen Waddle

Moore was the Cardinals’ practice player of the week after playing the role of Jaylen Waddle leading up to the game against the Dolphins.

It was a difficult week for Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Chris Moore when Zay Jones was reinstated from a five-game suspension on Oct. 7.

Two days later, Moore’s contract was terminated although his locker wasn’t torn down, creating the impression he would be back. That happened on Oct. 11 when he was signed to the practice squad.

Only 21-plus days later, in practices this week preparing for the Chicago Bears in Week 9, Moore wore a No. 40 jersey as the Pat Tillman scout team player of the week for his practice work in preparation for last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon said, “He’s a pro, man. He puts a lot into his craft, and we feel really comfortable about his role ascending on the drop of a dime. He can do that for us, so glad he’s here.”

Asked how tough the few days of somewhat uncertainty were, Moore told Cards Wire, “I’m a professional. I come to work; it’s how I provide for my family and take care of them, so whatever they need me to do, whatever they ask me to do, that’s what I’m going to do. Definitely, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to be on the roster and playing every week, but right now this is my role and I’ll do my best to provide what they need.”

What they needed last week were receivers to emulate Dolphins standouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in practice. Moore wore Waddle’s No. 17, while practice-squad receiver Andre Baccellia, who won the Tillman award in Week 3, wore Hill’s No. 10.

Noting that Baccellia is “faster than me, so he was the guy for Tyreek,” Moore said what they do each week “brings a lot of value. It helps the defense get a look for what they’re about to see, especially when you try to play up to those players’ strengths. For example, Waddle is a speed guy and he’s fast, so last week I was trying to show the defense that with his speed and how he gets off the ball and gets into his routes.”

Safety Budda Baker discussed how crucial that is.

He said, “The way we prepare, it’s very important, just understanding for example, if a route is going to be at 12-to-15 yards, don’t shorten it out to try and get open or to put it upon yourselves. We always talk about team over you, so just understanding to have that ability to do all the correct things within the assignment of the scout team is definitely very important for us.

“It makes us better and also lets us see it before the game so when the game happens, we understand what this route concept is or what these routes are and they’re run at the exact depth in games. So in practice they got to be run at that as well. He does a great job each and every week as do a lot of our receivers and what I like to say is: We work at work, so they do a great job.”

As for wearing Tillman’s number this week, Moore said, “It’s definitely an honor and a privilege from the stories they talk about him being a seventh-round pick and his work ethic on and off the field. It’s an honor for the team to recognize me and my work.

“I was familiar with his name because his story is special and everything, but I didn’t know too much about him until I got in the building and you see the memorial out there for him and you can see how truly great he was.”

The motivation is evident each week in the locker room for those competing for the Tillman honor.

“It’s something special and they recognize you,” Moore concluded. “Everybody is saying, ‘I wonder who’s going to get it this week,’ so it’s definitely talked about.”

Cardinals to release WR Chris Moore with players returning

His release opens the door for the reinstatement of WR Zay Jones from his five-game suspension.

The Arizona Cardinals are making a change to the wide receiver room. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, they are releasing veteran receiver Chris Moore Wednesday.

The move signals the return of someone to the active roster.

Receiver Zay Jones has been reinstated from his five-game suspension but the Cardinals have a one-game exemption if they wish. They also have rookie tackle Christian Jones who has been designated to return from injured reserve and had his 21-day practice window opened last week. If either is reinstated to the active roster this week, it would require a corresponding move.

Rookie defensive lineman Darius Robinson is also expected to have his practice window opened this week, opening the door for a return from injured reserve.

Moore’s release likely signals that Jones will be reinstated to play this weekend against the Green Bay Packers.

Jones can play all three receiver positions and is the most accomplished receiver on the roster.

In five games this season, Moore has played just 27 offensive snaps and none on special teams. He has not caught a pass or been targeted this season.

The Cardinals will be on the hook for the remainder of his $1.28 million salary as he is a vested veteran.

How Miles Kelly’s pledge affects Auburn in On3’s way-too-early top-25 rankings

Auburn acquired wing help over the weekend by adding former Georgia Tech guard Miles Kelly from the transfer portal.

Auburn basketball filled another need over the weekend by adding former Georgia Tech guard [autotag]Miles Kelly[/autotag] to its roster from the transfer portal.

Kelly is Auburn’s third transfer portal addition of the offseason, joining former Furman guard [autotag]JP Pegues[/autotag] and former SMU forward [autotag]Ja’Heim Hudson[/autotag]. Kelly has averaged double-figures in points over the last two seasons at Georgia Tech and reached a career-high 5.5 rebounds last season.

Adding Kelly was important for Auburn, as the Tigers earned assistance on the wing. The commitment also impressed On3’s James Fletcher, who has placed Auburn at No. 8 in his “way-too-early top-25” ranking following Kelly’s pledge.

Auburn got a transfer portal commitment from Miles Kelly this week to sure up the wing scoring and provide help to the backcourt which includes veteran transfer JP Pegues.

Auburn will boast one of the most experienced rosters during the 2024-25 season, as 10 seniors will make up the roster including returning starters [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] and [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag].

Samford transfer Achor Achor schedules official visit to Auburn

The forward earned All-SoCon honors after scoring 16.1 points and securing 6.1 rebounds per game.

Auburn basketball made a splash by landing All-SoCon guard JP Pegues from the transfer portal to fill its need for a guard. [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and his staff are now trying to add the SoCon’s top forward.

The Samford Bulldogs enjoyed a special 2023-24 season with a perfect 18-0 home record, a SoCon championship, and a first-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament that resulted in a controversial loss to Kansas.

Forward [autotag]Achor Achor[/autotag] was a key reason for the Bulldogs’ success last season by leading the team with 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. His season performance landed him on the All-SoCon team alongside Auburn transfer [autotag]JP Pegues[/autotag]. Following the season, Achor entered the transfer portal and has garnered interest from several schools including Auburn. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Achor will be on campus this week for an official visit.

Auburn continues its hunt to find a suitable replacement for [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] after striking out on two targets last week. Former Clemson forward [autotag]RJ Godfrey[/autotag] was supposed to visit last week but canceled in favor of committing to Georgia. Montgomery native [autotag]Duke Miles[/autotag] did show up for an official visit to Auburn last week, but the former High Point product ultimately chose Oklahoma over the Tigers.

Achor would be a solid addition to Auburn’s rotation due to his experience and size. His 6-9 stature, mixing in his knowledge with players such as [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] and [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag] will aid the development of newcomers [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag] and [autotag]Jahki Howard[/autotag].

As a transfer, Achor is ranked as a four-star forward by 247Sports and is the No. 36 overall power forward in the transfer portal.

Former Clemson forward RJ Godfrey to visit Auburn this week

Godfrey shot 42% from three-point territory as a sophomore at Clemson.

Auburn basketball’s 2024-25 roster will be filled with talent. Auburn has added transfer [autotag]JP Pegues[/autotag] to mesh with freshman guards [autotag]Tahaad Pettiford[/autotag] and [autotag]Jakhi Howard[/autotag]. It also helps that star [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] and key contributors [autotag]Chaney Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag], and [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag] are set to return.

Auburn is still looking to fill a need at forward and will try to secure the missing piece this week by hosting former Clemson forward [autotag]RJ Godfrey[/autotag].

According to a report by Auburn Undercover, former Clemson forward RJ Godfrey will visit the Plains on Tuesday, April 30. The visit will be Godfrey’s third since entering the transfer portal. He has also taken in visits to Virginia Tech and Oklahoma.

Godfrey was a solid contributor off the bench for Clemson over the last two seasons. In 69 total games, he averaged 4.7 points while shooting 59% from the field and 38% from the three-point territory. He secured 2.8 rebounds while assisting with 39 shots and recording 25 steals.

At the time of this post, Auburn has three returning forwards on its roster: Chaney Johnson, Chris Moore, and [autotag]Addarin Scott[/autotag]. The key void that Auburn will look to fill this offseason will be the spot left behind by [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag]. Williams exits Auburn’s roster after a great career that saw him score 9.3 points per game with 3.9 rebounds and a 78% free throw percentage.

Back in time: What happened the last time Auburn faced Yale on the hardwood?

Auburn and Yale have played each other in basketball just once in history. Here’s how it played out.

Auburn will begin its journey for a national championship this week against Yale. The meeting between the Tigers and the Bulldogs will be the second all-time, and the first meeting took place not long ago.

Auburn hosted Yale for a regular season contest at then-Auburn Arena on December 4, 2021, and won convincingly, 86-64. The win pushed Auburn to 7-1 on the season and was part of a 19-game win streak that Auburn built during the 2021-22 season.

Five players reached double figures in points, led by [autotag]KD Johnson[/autotag]’s 19-point showing. Jabari Smith was next in line with 17 points while [autotag]Zep Jasper[/autotag], [autotag]Devan Cambridge[/autotag], and [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag] each added 10 points.

Future first-round pick [autotag]Walker Kessler[/autotag] recorded zero points in just eight minutes of action but managed to lead the team in blocks with four. The Tigers recorded 14 total blocks in the game. [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag], [autotag]Stretch Akingbola[/autotag], and [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag] joined Kessler by recording multiple blocks.

What to know about new Cardinals WR Chris Moore

We get some insight to the new addition to the receiver room from Titans Wire editor Mike Moraitis.

The Arizona Cardinals were busy last week in the first week of the new NFL league year and they made several new additions. One was signing former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Chris Moore to a one-year contract.

What is there to know about the new addition to the receiver room?

Titans Wire managing editor Mike Moraitis gives us a little info about Moore.

Moore caught 22 passes for 424 yards last season. He had at least one catch in 15 of 17 games but never had more than three in any game.

His most productive season was in 2022 for the Houston Texans. He had 48 catches for 548 yards and two touchdowns.

He would currently be the Cardinals’ No. 3 receiver if there are no more additions made to the receiver room this offseason.

Check out the best images from Auburn’s SEC Tournament championship celebration on the floor of Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

The No. 4-seed Auburn Tigers finished the job Sunday by taking down No. 6-seed Florida, 86-67, to win its third SEC Tournament crown.

The Tigers connected on 51% of his shot attempts in the win, including an impressive 64% tally in the second half. Auburn also never surrendered the lead, as it held the advantage from the first bucket at the 19:37 mark when [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] made a layup to give Auburn the 2-0 lead.

Broome ended the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds. [autotag]Chad Baker-Mazara[/autotag] and [autotag]Denver Jones[/autotag] also reached double-figures in the victory. Auburn’s bench scored 33 points led by [autotag]Tre Donaldson[/autotag]’s eight-point outing. [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag], [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag], and [autotag]Chaney Johnson[/autotag] added seven points each.

Recap: Auburn gets revenge, cuts down the nets in Nashville

The Auburn Tigers are your 2023-2024 SEC Tournament Champions.

The Auburn Tigers are your 2023-2024 SEC Tournament Champions.

Bruce Pearl challenged his team to win nine games in a row before its SEC Tournament opener on Friday and [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] and company have responded by notching the first three.

While it wasn’t quite Neville Arena, Sunday’s championship against Florida felt like a home game in “Auburn North”.

The Auburn family brought the energy inside Bridgestone Arena from the get-go, although the building did calm down significantly following a gruesome leg injury suffered by Florida center Micah Handlogten.

Handlogten was ultimately stretchered off, and the energy returned to the tune of Auburn defensively disrupting a potent Gators offense en route to a 38-30 halftime lead.

Mark Clayton Jr. and the rest of the Gator offense managed to cut the Auburn lead to a single point quickly into the second half, getting the score to 45-44 within the first four minutes. Guard [autotag]Trae Donaldson[/autotag] quickly responded by knocking down a “parking lot” 3-point shot then stealing a Clayton Jr. pass on the other end that turned into a [autotag]Denver Jones[/autotag] transition dunk.

From that moment on it was all Auburn. The Tigers outscored Florida 41-27 from that point on. The Championship was in hand by the under 4:00 timeout.

While Donaldson had a massive impact off the bench, the star of the afternoon was none other than forward [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag], who picked up his second double-double of the SEC Tournament.

The Junior led all scorers in the game with 19 points while also providing 3 blocks on the defensive end. Forwards [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag], [autotag]Chaney Johnson[/autotag], and [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag] also played fantastic minutes against a tall Florida front court.

Auburn’s 86-67 win continues a trend of dominance we’ve seen from Auburn this season. Every Tigers win has come by double-digits other than one.

The Tigers have every chance to run the table again in the NCAA Tournament. We’ll see who they’ll face in a few short hours.
