Florida football still ‘No. 1’ for 2025 blue-chip DB after junior day visit

This Sunshine State product remains firm in his desire to play for the Gators.

The Florida football program was busy this past weekend hosting prep prospects after the opening of the recruiting contact period. Billy Napier and Co. were busy catching up with some of their top targets with many hailing from the 2025 cycle during the first junior day of the calendar year.

One of those student-athletes was four-star defensive back [autotag]Chris McCorkle[/autotag] III out of Sarasota (Florida) Cardinal Mooney, who has been in the team’s sights for quite some time. The 6-foot-1, 172-pound defender made visits to Gainesville for game days last fall and returned last weekend to get another gander at what the Gators have to offer.

“It went great,” McCorkle told Swamp247. “I had a good time here.”

The high school junior appears to be jibing well with new defensive backs coach Will Harris, who was brought in to replace Corey Raymond — the person who originally offered McCorkle.

“(Harris is) a good person, I just met him not too long ago. I was in the defensive backs room with him and he was teaching us stuff. That’s great. I’m just now getting to meet him, but it was all good,” he offered.

“He’s energetic, and he means what he means,” McCorkle continued. “He means business. He’s going to get you where you need to be.”

As far as where the Orange and Blue stand among his preferred destinations, McCorkle offered a simple answer.

“They’re still where they were before: No. 1.”

McCorkle is rated at four stars and ranked No. 360 overall and No. 37 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry ranking rates him at three stars and ranked at Nos. 466 and 51, respectively.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Gators a 79.8% chance of landing him, followed by the UCF Knights (1.7%), Florida Atlantic Owls (1.5%) and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1.2%).

2025 DB target returning to Florida after ‘great’ first visit

After impressing in-state cornerback Chris McCorkle over the weekend, the Florida Gators are planning on hosting him again for the Tennessee game on Saturday.

Saturday marked the first-ever visit to the Swamp for Cardinal Mooney (Sarasota, Florida) cornerback [autotag]Chris McCorkle[/autotag].

Florida impressed McCorkle on the visit, according to Swamp247’s Blake Alderman, who spoke to the junior defensive back in depth.

“My first game was great,” McCorkle said. “As soon as we got there, off the rip the atmosphere was great… They said that wasn’t even close to what you’d see on a bigger game, and that was crazy.”

McCorkle won’t have to wait long to see what a “bigger game” in the Swamp feels like. He’s already set a return date of Saturday when Tennessee comes to town.

“I am going to come back for the Tennessee game definitely,” he said. “I look forward to seeing a better team they play against, and them competing against a bigger school.”Secondary coach Corey Raymond is taking the lead on McCorkle. The two spent some time together after the game, and Raymond went to go see him play earlier last Friday. That relationship is only just starting to blossom, but it’s one of the main reasons Florida is considered the favorite to land McCorkle right now.UF holds 72.7% odds on the On3 recruiting prediction machine, and that number should only increase after a return visit. Florida Atlantic is the next closest program on the list with 3.0% odds to land him.

McCorkle is a three-star recruit, according to On3. The other three major recruiting services (247Sports, ESPN and Rivals) have yet to evaluate him. On3 ranks him the 37th-best cornerback in the class of 2025 and No. 51 among recruits from the state of Florida.

Florida CB target returning to campus for July cookout

The list of Grill in the Ville visitors continues for Florida, and in-state defensive back Chris McCorkle is the latest name added.

After earning a commitment from his teammate, the Florida Gators immediately shot to the top of Cardinal Mooney (Sarasota, Florida) defensive back [autotag]Chris McCorkle[/autotag]’s list.

He’ll make his first unofficial visit to the Swamp at the end of July, according to Gators Online, as one of many visitors coming into town for the July 29 Grill in the Ville cookout. McCorkle, a rising junior, and Teddy Foster, a class of 2024 commit, will arrive in town a day early, meaning they’ll have more time to spend on campus and with the staff.

It might be a bit early to put McCorkle on any sort of commitment watch, but things are clearly moving in the right direction between him and UF. Expect Florida to build on its lead during this visit.

McCorkle is a three-star recruit by On3’s measure and has yet to receive a grade from the other three major services. On3 has him listed as the 37th-best cornerback in the class of 2025 and No. 50 in the state of Florida.

The Gators have a dominant lead on the On3 recruiting prediction machine, with 62.4% odds to land McCorkle. Florida Atlantic (5.0%), Coastal Carolina (4.3%) and Appalachian State (3.5%) round out the top three.

This 2025 DB is favoring Florida following a teammate’s commitment

Florida earned a commitment from Cardinal Mooney cornerback Chris McCorkle on Friday, and now one of his teammates is considering Florida a bit more seriously.

Cardinal Mooney (Sarasota, Florida) cornerback Teddy Foster became the 20th commitment in Florida’s 2024 recruiting class on Friday, and his teammate, [autotag]Chris McCorkle[/autotag], is now seriously considering the Gators, according to Gators Online.

McCorkle, who is ranked No. 37 among cornerbacks in the class of 2025 by On3, was offered in May along with Foster. He’s received some Power Five offers so far, but Florida was the first SEC program to give him a chance.

Being a rising junior, Florida has had limited communication time with him over the summer, but McCorkle told GO that the staff is still doing their best. Foster’s commitment seems to have had a serious impact on McCorkle’s thought process.

“It was a big day for Teddy yesterday with him committing there; it was a big day for all of us,” McCorkle said. “I am happy for him and he is definitely going to make a big impact on Florida. That is like a brother to me, a role model and a great person to look up to.”

Florida will be able to contact McCorkle more freely once the school year starts, specifically after Sept. 1 when college coaches can begin emailing players directly. Arranging a first visit should quickly move Florida to the top of the pack, assuming the Gators aren’t already there.
