Four-star DB decommits from Michigan following Georgia visit

Four-star DB decommits from Michigan following Georgia visit

Georgia football made a good impression on 2025 five-star cornerback Chris Ewald Jr. over the weekend. So good, in fact, that he decommitted from Michigan shortly after his visit.

Ewald (6 feet, 160 pounds) plays for Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida. He’s rated as the No. 11 cornerback, the No. 11 player in the state and the No. 87 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, per 247Sports.

Ewald had been committed to the Wolverines since December 2022 before reopening his recruitment on Monday.

Georgia’s recent hiring of former USC assistant Donte Williams has made a difference Ewald told 247Sports’ Benjamin Wolk.

“Before Coach Donte was there, I actually never talked to them. With him being there, it makes things a lot more interesting for me,” Ewald said. “Coach Donte was recruiting me heavily at USC, but you know, it was far. He moved a little closer, so now I can actually be interested in what he’s saying and see him more.”

Coaching changes seem to be coming soon in Ann Arbor as head coach Jim Harbaugh is in serious talks with the Los Angeles Chargers to become their next head coach following a national championship season at Michigan.

Georgia’s staff has faced little turnover this offseason, giving head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs more ammunition to work with.

Longtime 2025 Michigan football pledge decommits

C’mon man! #GoBlue

The first pledge of the 2025 class is no longer in the Michigan football class, it appears.

Back in early winter 2022, on December 16, the maize and blue got a commitment from 2025 Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star Chris Ewald, a four-star cornerback. He led the class with Buford (Ga.) linebacker Mantrez Walker joining soon after, but Walker decommitted months later. Ewald seemed solid, but he strung up some visits elsewhere, going to Athens this past weekend to see Georgia first.

And on Monday, the same day multiple Michigan football defenders announced their return to the program, Ewald reopened his recruitment, decommitting from the maize and blue.

With Ewald gone, Michigan has three 2025 commits — quarterback Carter Smith, defensive tackle Bobby Kanka, and tight end Eli Owens.

Top 2025 Michigan football commit hitting the road for visits in June

#Michigan will need to make sure they seal the deal to keep him in the fold.

Chris Ewald Jr. was the first commitment Michigan football received in the class of 2025. The 6-foot cornerback announced his intentions to go to the Wolverines back in December of 2022.

Ewald, a top-100 and four-star recruit, has been solid with Michigan and the coaching staff. He has been seen on Twitter heavily recruiting players to come play in Ann Arbor and showing enthusiasm when the Wolverines get a commitment.

Since his commitment to Michigan, the Hollywood (Florida) Chaminade-Madonna Prep. recruit has been getting a ton of interest and offers from other schools. He has over 20 scholarship offers and some of significance like Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and USC.

With his recruitment gaining more traction, Ewald announced on Twitter that he would be hitting the road in early June to visit some different schools. He will visit Miami (June 1), Tennessee (June 2), Florida State (June 8), USC (June 14), and finishing out with Michigan (June 22).

Michigan has two players committed for the 2025 cycle and Ewald is a big target for the Wolverines. Even though he is committed to Michigan, the Wolverines will need to continue to recruit him and make sure they seal the deal to sign him when the 2025 cycle is complete.

LSU offers 2025 four-star cornerback from Florida

The 2025 prospect is already considered one of the top players in his class.

[autotag]Chris Ewald Jr.[/autotag] is a 2025 four-star cornerback from Hollywood, Florida where he plays for Chaminade-Madonna Prep. The Lions are currently 13-0 this season with only one game remaining.

The Lions will play against Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) this Saturday for their final game. The Lions won the FHSAA 1M state championship 48-14 over Clearwater Central Catholic last Thursday.

Film Analysis: Ewald is rated as a four-star prospect for the 2025 class already, so he has had a lot of colleges checking him out even though he is just a sophomore. He has incredible ball skills that allow him to always find his way to the football for key interceptions.
