Report: Oregon Ducks hire new assistant coach to replace Chris Crutchfield

The Oregon Ducks have reportedly hired Chuck Martin, the former assistant coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

After losing his assistant coach Chris Crutchfield following the end of the 2021-22 season, Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks have reportedly made a new coaching hire, bringing in Chuck Martin, who was formerly the assistant coach with South Carolina.

Martin spent five years with the Gamecocks and has been coaching at the D1 level for over 20 years, with stops at Indiana, Marish, Memphis, and Kentucky.

One interesting thing to note is that Martin is coming off of a season where he coached Devin Carter, a former 4-star guard who has since entered the transfer portal and included the Oregon Ducks in his top-5 schools to potentially end up at.

Whether or not that means that Carter will choose Oregon, we can’t say for sure, but it certainly doesn’t hurt the Ducks’ case in potentially landing the transfer.

ESPN: Oregon Ducks’ assistant coach Chris Crutchfield to become head coach at Omaha

According to a report from ESPN, Oregon assistant coach Chris Crutchfield is leaving the Ducks to become the head coach at Omaha.

For the second year in a row, it looks like Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks are going to have to find a replacement for the top assistant coach.

According to a report from ESPN, and later confirmed by The Oregonian’s James Crepea, Chris Crutchfield is finalizing a deal to return to his alma mater, the Omaha Mavericks, as the new head coach.

This comes just a year after the Ducks lost top assistant coach Tony Stubblefield, who left Eugene to become the head coach at DePaul. Crutchfield joined Altman’s staff at Oregon last April. As part of his contract, Crutchfield signed for three years worth $375,000 annually, and he will not owe UO a buyout.
