Browns add another OT to 90-man roster at the beginning of training camp

The Browns have added more offensive line depth ahead of training camp

Training camp has arrived as the Cleveland Browns are back in the building, including wide receiver Amari Cooper after he and the team agreed to restructure his contract and meet his demands. There will be a new face, however, as the Browns are set to sign offensive tackle Chim Okorafor to their 90-man roster.

According to ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi, Okorafor is set to wear the brown and orange and battle it out for a spot on the final 53-man roster. The Browns have had an open roster spot since the release of defensive end Lonnie Phelps, who was arrested for a drunk driving charge in Florida during the NFL’s dead period.

Okorafor now joins a crowded offensive tackle room consisting of Jedrick Wills, Dawand Jones, Jack Conklin, James Hudson III, Roy Mbaeteka, Hakeem Adeniji, and Lorenzo Thompson.

For a team that was starting fourth-string offensive tackles a year ago, however, adding depth now and letting them battle it out is not a bad idea. Okorafor does not have a clear path to the 53-man roster, but that won’t stop him from competing.

He most recently played in the UFL for the Michigan Panthers.

10 former Ravens are signed to UFL teams

With the NFL season now in the rearview and the UFL set to debut, we’re looking at 10 former Baltimore Ravens who are participating in the spring league

With the NFL season now complete and the offseason underway, Baltimore has one of the most extended lists of players who are getting another shot in the new eight-team UFL, which kicks off season kicks off on Saturday, March 30, 2024, with the battle of the 2023 champions: Arlington Renegades vs Birmingham Stallions.

A combination agreement (the “UFL”) is the premier spring football league that resulted from the merger of the XFL and USFL.

Russ Brandon, former President and CEO of the XFL, will lead the UFL as President and CEO. Former USFL President of Football Operations Daryl Johnston will lead football operations.

Founded in 2001, the XFL was a collaboration between NBC and WWF (WWE), spearheaded by Vince McMahon. After a hot start, poor ratings ultimately led to the league’s lasting just one season. The league returned in 2020, with McMahon again leading the reboot, but it had to close its doors again after COVID-19 shut things down after just five weeks.

The league filed for bankruptcy and was forced to sell.

A group headed by Dany Garcia, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, bought the league out of bankruptcy for $15 million, eyeing 2023 as its return season.

The UFL has eight teams in Arlington (TX), Birmingham (AL), Detroit (MI), Houston (TX), San Antonio (TX), Memphis (TN), St. Louis (MO), and Washington D.C.

With action to begin this weekend, we’re looking at 10 former Ravens on UFLrosters.

Vikings add cornerback before preseason finale

The Vikings continue to make roster moves, this time solidifying their cornerback depth

The Minnesota Vikings announced on Friday afternoon two roster moves in signing cornerback Jameson Houston and waived OT Chim Okorafor.

The Vikings brought in Okorafor on August 14th as offensive tackle depth and waived OT Jacky Chen in the process.

They brought in cornerback depth in Houston, which is important before the final preseason game of the year with minor injuries at the position.

Houston has been around the block in the world of professional football. After going undrafted in 2020, Houston signed with the Cleveland Browns. During his NFL career, Houston spent time with the Browns, Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks.

Houston also spent time in both spring leagues, playing with the USFL’s Michigan Panthers in 2022 where he got two interceptions. He also played with the 2023 XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas.

This is a depth signing for the Vikings with the potential of Houston earning a spot on the practice squad.

Vikings sign OT Chim Okorafor, waive OT Jacky Chen

The Minnesota Vikings made a roster move on Monday, highlighted by the signing of OT Chim Okorafor.

The Minnesota Vikings made a swap at offensive tackle on Monday.

In a corresponding move, the Vikings signed tackle Chim Okorafor and waived tackle Jacky Chen.

The Vikings signed Chen as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite attending a smaller college (Pace University), Chen impressed during pre-draft workouts and garnered buzz from executives across the league.

Okorafor, a rookie, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was later released on Aug. 8.

Okorafor attended Benedictine College, an NAIA school located in Atchinson, Kansas. While there, Okorafor was named a 2022 NAIA All-American while leading a Benedictine offensive line that allowed just 12 sacks in 13 games.

At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Okorafor has the required size to play offensive tackle at the next level, and his basketball background signals a unique athletic ability.

However, Okorafor will face a tough road to make the Vikings 53-man roster. Okorafor’s potential could make him a candidate for the practice squad, where he could continue to clean up his game.

Patriots had two former undrafted Eagles in for a workout

The New England Patriots hosted former #Eagles undrafted free agents Chim Okorafor and Trevor Reid for workouts

The Patriots always look for offensive line depth and recently hosted two former Eagles for a free-agent tryout.

After being cut last weekend, Chim Okorafor and Trevor Reid worked out for Bill Belichick in New England.

The Patriots offensive line struggled in Thursday night’s 20-9 loss to the Texans and the organization wasted no time bringing in outside prospects to try out at the position.

Okorafor played two basketball seasons at Cal Poly Pomona, then transferred to Riverside City Community College in 2019, Missouri Southern in 2020, and Pitt State after that. He landed in Kansas at Benedictine for the 2022 season, playing three games.

A raw but talented athlete, the 6-foot-6, the 320-pound offensive line offers intriguing size as a developmental prospect.

The 6-foot-5, 307-pound Reid made 12 appearances with 11 starts in 2022, helping the Louisville Cardinals average 200.6 rushing yards per game for the 23rd-ranked rushing offense in the FBS.

Reid played 628 total snaps last season, almost exclusively at left tackle; he allowed only three sacks, two quarterback hits, and eight quarterback hurries in 314 pass block snaps and posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 60.9.

Patriots try out two offensive lineman after preseason struggles

After Thursday’s offensive line struggles, the Patriots reportedly had two offensive tackles in for a tryout on Friday.

The New England Patriots offensive line struggled on Thursday night, and the organization wasted no time bringing in outside prospects to try out at the position. On Friday, the team reportedly had offensive tackles Chim Okorafor and Trevor Reid in for tryouts, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Okorafor measures in at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in May, before he was ultimately let go from the team.

Reid also signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Eagles after serving as a key part of the Louisville line in his collegiate career. In his best year with the Cardinals in 2021, he allowed only three sacks, two quarterback hits, eight quarterback hurries and finished with a 77.4 overall Pro Football Focus grade.

At the very least, the Patriots are trying to address the offensive line issues they had in Thursday’s 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans.

The Patriots quarterbacks were constantly hurried on a night when the Texans’ defensive line was able to get to them with relative ease. Exploring depth at the tackle position at this point isn’t a bad thing.
