Analyzing Wednesday’s Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Blackhawks (15-20-7) visit the Detroit Red Wings (18-18-6) Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Blackhawks vs. Red Wings odds and lines and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Chicago is coming off a 2-0 loss at Colorado Monday. The Blackhawks are winless (0-3-1) in their last four games.  They are 2-6-1 over their last nine contests on the road. Chicago, of late, has reverted to some problems on defense: the ‘Hawks have allowed 35.4 shots on goal per game over their last five.

The Red Wings head into Wednesday night off back-to-back losses. Detroit fell to Dallas and Nashville on Friday and Saturday. The Wings and ‘Hawks are meeting for the first time since Oct. 24, when Detroit routed Chicago 6-3 at the United Center.

Blackhawks at Red Wings projected goalies

Marc-Andre Fleury (13-13-3, 2.76 GAA, .913 SV%) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (12-11-5, 2.79 GAA, .915 SV%)

Fleury got off to a rocky start this season, but he has been exceptional of late. The veteran netminder owns a .936 SV% over his last seven games. He allowed 2 goals-or-less in each of his last four road starts.

Alex Nedeljkovic was on a nice roll this month (.936 SV% from Jan. 4-17) but allowed a combined 8 goals in the weekend setbacks against Dallas and Nashville. He has been solid in previous efforts coming off back-to-back misfires.

Blackhawks at Red Wings odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 2

Money line

Chicago has been hamstrung by a 6.5% shooting mark in 5-on-5 play in its last 10 games. The Blackhawks have especially come up empty in recent high-danger chances. When it comes to creating those low-slot efforts, Chicago has outpaced Detroit in recent weeks.

By a slim margin, CHICAGO (+100) presents the best value in Wednesday’s contest.

Against the spread

Peg the true odds as being lost in the juice between these prices: PASS.

Over/Under

The Under is 5-0 in the last five Chicago-Detroit games and is 5-1 in the Red Wings’ last six games overall.

Respecting both goalies and with the thought this battle is a tighter one than the October meeting, BACK THE UNDER 5.5 (-115).

Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL picks, tips and predictions.

The Chicago Blackhawks (20-18-5) play the Detroit Red Wings (15-23-6) Thursday evening at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. This is the first of back-to-back matchups between the two in Detroit with the second game Saturday evening. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Blackhawks-Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

These teams last met Feb. 28, a 7-2 Blackhawks victory in the Windy City.

The Red Wings, 5-3-2 in their last 10 games, were busy at the trade deadline as they prepare to miss the playoffs for a fifth-consecutive season. In their largest deal, RW Anthony Mantha was traded to the Washington Capitals, netting Detroit F Jakub Vrana, a first-round draft pick and more in the swap.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks, 5-5-0 in their last 10, are fighting for their playoff life while sitting four points out of the fourth playoff position. Chicago has beat Detroit in three of their past four meetings.

Blackhawks at Red Wings: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:06 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Blackhawks -165 (bet $165 to win $100) | Red Wings +140 (bet $100 to win $140)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blackhawks -1.5 (+155) | Red Wings +1.5 (-185)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -120 | U: +100/EVEN)

Blackhawks at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Kevin Lankinen (16-11-4, .915 SV%, 2.79 GAA) at Jonathan Bernier (9-7-0, .914 SV%, 2.92 GAA)

Lankinen has been a workhorse for Chicago, starting six games already in April. He’s coming off back-to-back wins over Columbus Blue Jackets, but has given up no less than 2 goals in any game this month. Lankinen won his last two starts vs. the Red Wings, including a shutout.

Bernier, also projected to start, has started just two games this month, allowing 4.01 GAA. He’s coming off an April 12th victory over the Carolina Hurricanes where he allowed just one goal on 38 shots. In his last start against the Blackhawks on Feb. 27, he allowed three goals in a win.

Blackhawks at Red Wings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 3

Money line (ML)

The Wings are just 1-5-0 vs. the Blackhawks this season, scoring 2 goals per game while allowing 4.2 per game. However, outside of a 7-1 demolishing at the hands of the Nashville Predators April 8, Detroit has been playing better as of late and are coming off back-to-back wins.

Confidence is never high predicting a Detroit victory in recent times, but a small-unit wager on the home underdog at +140 is worth the play.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Blackhawks are 24-19 ATS this season while the Wings are 27-17. While I like the Wings to win, I can’t see them scoring two-plus more than Chicago and the -185 isn’t worth the risk. PASS on the spread.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Blackhawks are 21-20 against the O/U. Their games have gone Over the projected 5.5 total in five of the last six. Detroit is 16-25 against the O/U and gone Over the total in three of its last five.

With some new faces, there should be some sloppy play … and goals, which helps them sneak past the OVER (-120).

Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Chicago Blackhawks (8-5-4) and Detroit Red Wings (4-10-3) meet again Wednesday to close out a two-game Original Six set at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop will be shortly after 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Blackhawks-Red Wings NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Blackhawks at Red Wings: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:55 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Blackhawks -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Red Wings +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blackhawks -1.5 (+190) | Red Wings +1.5 (-245)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Blackhawks at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Kevin Lankinen (6-2-3, .925 SV%, 2.49 GAA) vs. Thomas Greiss (1-9-3, .899 SV%, 2.90 GAA)

Lankinen owns a .935 SV% over three road games. The Chicago rookie is coming off a nice bounce-back effort after allowing 6 goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets Feb. 11. He then stopped 29 of 31 shots in a win over the Jackets two nights later. Lankinen stopped 55 of 58 shots in back-to-back wins against Detroit Jan. 22 and 24.

Greiss has won just once this winter, but he has been solid in five games since getting pulled 5:36 into a Feb. 3 start at the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 35-year-old vet owns a .920 SV% over his last five games. Greiss has been roughed up on the power play (.800 SV%), and that figures to be an area of concern against a Chicago team that has cranked out a 32.69% success rate with the extra man to rank third in the NHL.

Blackhawks at Red Wings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Red Wings 3, Blackhawks 2

Money line (ML)

The Chicago power play may figure as a key element of this contest. Detroit has been disciplined of late, and when the Wings have been in the box, the penalty kill has made stops in 16 of its last 18 chances.

The Blackhawks defeated the Red Wings 3-2 in overtime Monday night but Detroit was outshooting Chicago for long stretches of that game; the Wings, in fact, doubled up the ‘Hawks 10-5 in 5-on-5 high-danger chances and that fits with recent puck-possession and shot-quality analytics.

Detroit has played better than its 2-4 mark over its last six games; Chicago has outkicked its coverage in going 5-1 over its last six.

BACK THE RED WINGS +120.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Detroit is the likable side in a home game and a Game 2 situation BUT PASS ON THE PRICES OFFERED.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is a combined 22-12 with Chicago and Detroit this season, and the best value in this one is indeed on the Under.

The goalies figure to hold sway in a lot of 5-on-5 action. Lankinen is the more likable of the two, but the Wings’ defense of late (23 shots on goal allowed per game over their last four) evens the scales.

BACK THE UNDER 5.5 (-105).

Blackhawks at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Kevin Lankinen (6-2-3, .925 SV%, 2.49 GAA) vs. Thomas Greiss (1-9-2, .901 SV%, 2.91 GAA)

Lankinen owns a .935 SV% over three road starts. The 35-year-old vet owns a .929 SV% in four games since. Blackhawks at Red Wings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 2

Money line (ML)

STEER CLEAR. The Chicago power play may not loom large in this one. Detroit has been disciplined of late, and when the Wings have been in the box, the Detroit penalty kill has made stops in 13 of its last-15 chances.

The value odds on either end are likely bracketed by these prices.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Four of the ‘Hawks’ seven wins have been by multi-goal margins. Half of the Wings’ 10 regulation losses were by 3 or more goals. Two of those five came against this Chicago team; the Blackhawks outscored the Red Wings 10-3 over two games at United Center in late-January.

Chicago is likely overvalued by its 4-1-1 mark since Feb. 1. That performance certainly isn’t backed up by a 43.21% Fenwick-for over the same stretch.

Detroit is at home for the first time since Jan. 31 and figures to be buttoned up after being beaten up by the Blackhawks last time around. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is a combined 20-12 with Chicago and Detroit this season and the best value in this one is indeed on the Under.

The goalies figure to hold sway in a lot of 5-on-5 action. Lankinen is the more likable of the two, but the Wings’ defense of late (27.3 shots on goal allowed per game over their last six) evens the scales.

BACK THE UNDER 5.5 (-115).
