Representative: Nate Diaz ‘acted entirely in self-defense,’ lawyer in contact with police about arrest warrant

Zach Rosenfield, who represents Nate Diaz, released a statement Tuesday to MMA Junkie about the warrant issued for his client’s arrest.

A representative for [autotag]Nate Diaz[/autotag] says his client acted in self-defense during a New Orleans street fight that resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for the former UFC star.

On Tuesday, Diaz representative Zach Rosenfield issued a written statement to MMA Junkie, confirming that Diaz – through his attorney – has been in contact with authorities after the warrant was issued Monday.

“Nate’s attorney, Walter Becker, can confirm that Nate has received word of the arrest warrant, and Becker has been in contact with court authorities in New Orleans,” Rosenfield said. “Nate’s attorney looks forward to presenting all of the facts about this incident to the District Attorney, which clearly demonstrate that a trained fighter named [autotag]Rodney Petersen[/autotag] aggressively pursued Nate with the intention of engaging him and once doing so, Nate acted entirely in self-defense.

“No further comment will be made at this time.”

Diaz was caught on video choking the man unconscious with a standing guillotine Friday on Bourbon Street after the two engaged each other in the middle of a larger melee. The man was later identified as Rodney Peterson Jr., an amateur MMA fighter and pro boxer, also known as “Not Logan Paul” on social media. In a follow-up video, Peterson showed off what appeared to be blood on the back of his head.

A video posted Tuesday by MMA reporter Ariel Helwani showed more of the brawl, which also involved Netflix star [autotag]Chase DeMoor[/autotag], whom Diaz was separated from at a Misfits Boxing event earlier that night. DeMoor later challenged Diaz to a fight on social media.

Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Curtis Elmore III told MMA Junkie on Tuesday once an arrest is made, the DA’s office will review and adjudicate.

If found guilty, Diaz could face up to eight years in prison and/or a $2,000 fine, which is the penalty in Louisiana for second-degree battery.

Diaz, 38, is scheduled to fight Jake Paul in a boxing match Aug. 5 in Dallas, his first combat sports competition since his UFC departure.

Chase DeMoor to Nate Diaz after New Orleans street fight: ‘You and your crew are the softest boys’

Reality TV star Chase DeMoor has challenged Nate Diaz to an MMA fight following their brawl in New Orleans.

[autotag]Chase DeMoor[/autotag] came out of this past weekend with a few bruises and a black eye, courtesy of former UFC star [autotag]Nate Diaz [/autotag] and his entourage (allegedly).

DeMoor, a reality TV star, got into an altercation with Diaz this past Friday at MF & DAZN X Series 6 in New Orleans. It’s unclear what set off Diaz, but he stood up from his ringside seat and threw a water bottle at DeMoor, who was a few rows behind Diaz. That caused a huge scuffle to break out, but security stepped in to deescalate the situation.

The beef later spilled over to the streets, with cell phone video showing Diaz choking another man unconscious, along with DeMoor getting attacked by a gang of people. Three days removed from the incident, DeMoor addressed what transpired and challenged Diaz to an MMA fight.

“This message is for Nate Diaz and all his boys,” DeMoor said in a video posted on Twitter on Monday. “As you can see, you guys finally put some damage on me. I didn’t take any damage in any of my boxing matches, and you guys had to jump me in New Orleans.

“All of you guys who are in the UFC and MMA fighters, and I had to fight your whole team off. You and your crew are the softest boys. All those kids on your team, I don’t know how they’re in the UFC or how they have any sort of winning record. You guys have pillows for hands, soft toilet paper for hands.

“You guys are a bunch of wipes, and I can’t wait to watch Jake Paul un-alive you in August, whenever you guys are fighting, because I’ll be there, and I’ll be there to handle all your goons too in case they get out of line.

“Nate, if you’re watching this, get yourself locked in a cage with me for five minutes. I promise you I’m going to show you what that 40-pound difference feels like. You’re soft. Jake, handle my light work.”

DeMoor fought at the MF & DAZN X Series 6 card that Friday night. He lost by disqualification to Stevie Knight after knocking him out and continuing to land shots on a downed Knight.

Diaz is currently booked for his professional boxing debut Aug. 5 against YouTube star Jake Paul. The event takes place at American Airlines Center in Dallas and will air live on pay-per-view.

The fight will be the first for Diaz since his UFC exit after a 27-fight run that began after Season 5 of “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2007.

Video: Nate Diaz chokes man unconscious in street fight; Conor McGregor, Dana White, Jake Paul react

Nate Diaz choked a Logan Paul lookalike into unconsciousness in a New Orleans street brawl that appeared to involve Chase DeMoor.

[autotag]Nate Diaz[/autotag] has a knack for the street fight, which was on full display Friday in New Orleans once again.

Not only did Diaz ignite a physic kerfuffle when he chucked a water bottle at Netflix reality series star Chase DeMoor at a Misfits Boxing event where his teammate [autotag]Chris Avila[/autotag] was competing, he also guillotined a man into unconsciousness in a post-event melee on the streets of New Orleans, a new video shows.

It’s unclear how or why the scuffle started, but the video captured how it ended – at least for one man. The video was posted by social media and YouTube influencer JiDion, who wrote in a lead-in tweet, “Broooo I’m f*cked up and Nate Diez [sic] choked out my homie.”

Shortly thereafter, other videos surfaced of DeMoor in a street brawl against multiple people. The caption that accompanied the video, posted by gamer OVERT, read, “Chase Demoor fights Nate Diaz whole team in New Orleans.”

The video appears to be taken in front of the same businesses that were visible in the original Diaz choke video.

Diaz has quite the resume of fights in and around events he’s not actually competing on. From the infamous Strikeforce Nashville brawl, to a fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov and company at a World Series of Fighting event, to the more recent ejection at the Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva event, Diaz and his squad have proved unwilling to back down.
