Recruiting Roundup: 4 new players for Arkansas among weekend commitments

Nobody made out better than the Arkansas Razorbacks, who managed to add four new defensive recruits.

Power Five programs had an appetite for defense over the weekend, as most of the prospects who made their college commitments play on that side of the ball. LSU added another four-star safety to their collection and Clemson picked up another blue-chip DL. Meanwhile, Alabama and Oklahoma also added four-star prospects of their own.

Nebraska got the biggest name with former NFL running back Willis McGahee’s son. However, nobody made out better than the Arkansas Razorbacks, who managed to add four new recruits. Here’s a review of some notable weekend college commitments.

Arkansas adds four-star DL Charleston Collins

ICYMI: Arkansas landed their seventh commit for the 2024 class on Friday, Little Rock native Charleston Collins.

The good news keeps coming for [autotag]Sam Pittman[/autotag] and Arkansas football today. 2024 four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Charleston Collins[/autotag] officially announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Friday afternoon.

Collins chose Arkansas over Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and many more. The 6-4, 260-pound Little Rock native was most recently in Fayetteville last Saturday to attend Arkansas’ spring game.

Last season at Mills High School, Collins recorded 124 tackles, 12 sacks, forced one fumble and recorded five fumbles. On offense, he contributed at tight end where he caught 11 passes for 67 yards.

With Collins’ commitment, Arkansas now has seven commitments for the 2024 recruiting class and six of them are four-star prospects. Collins is the second commitment today for the Hogs after four-star cornerback Jaden Allen announced his decision earlier in the day.

Arkansas lands four-star CB Jaden Allen for 2024

Arkansas added another four-star commit from the 2024 recruiting class, and they are likely to add to that very soon.

Four-star cornerback [autotag]Jaden Allen[/autotag] has officially committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Allen made his decision official on Twitter Friday morning, choosing Arkansas over Alabama, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, USC, Michigan State and others. He was initially committed to Texas for over a year before decommitting from the Longhorns in February.

Arkansas was reportedly the first team to reach out to Allen after his de-commitment, and that played a role in getting him to Fayetteville.

Allen’s commitment to the Hogs makes him the sixth of the 2024 recruiting cycle. He is also the fifth commit to hold a four-star rating from one of the four major recruiting outlets.

Next year’s recruiting class is shaping up to be an impressive haul for [autotag]Sam Pittman[/autotag] and they’re expected to get more commits on Friday in the form of Charleston Collins and Courtney Crutchfield.

LSU could be in a good position for this 4-star DL after ‘amazing’ visit

The Tigers seem to have made a strong impression on Pine Bluff (Ark.) DL Charleston Collins.

LSU hosted 2024 defensive lineman [autotag]Charleston Collins[/autotag] for a visit last week, and the Tigers seem to have made an impression on the four-star Pine Bluff (Ark.) Wilbur D. Mills prospect.

Collins — a 6-foot-4, 250-pound player who is listed as the No. 25 defensive lineman and No. 243 overall prospect on the 247Sports Composite Rankings — told On3’s Chad Simmons (subscription required) that his unofficial visit was “amazing.”

He said he met with coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] as well as several of the other 2024 prospects the Tigers have committed in a class that currently ranks second nationally.

There are other suitors for Collins, including Arkansas, Georgia, TCU, Tennessee and Texas. However, the in-state Razorbacks and LSU seem to be the frontrunners. He has four Crystal Ball predictions, two for Arkansas back in May and two for LSU from November.

On3 has LSU as a heavy favorite, listing it at 95.2% to land him on the Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Oklahoma Sooners offer 2024 4-Star DL Charleston Collins

The Oklahoma Sooners issued an offer to 2024 four-star DL Charleston Collins on Saturday.

The Sooners 2024 recruiting efforts are picking up steam as they head east of the Ouachita Mountains to Little Rock in their latest pursuit. On Saturday, they issued an offer to 2024 four-star defensive lineman Charleston Collins.

Collins is a powerfully disruptive player from the defensive interior. He’s able to win with a bull rush and has the quickness and athleticism to scoot past offensive linemen. He can be deployed as a three-technique defensive tackle, lined up between the tackle and the guard, in four-man fronts, or as a defensive end (five-technique) in a three-man front.

The Sooners will have a tough battle on their hands in this recruitment. LSU looks to have the early lead for Collins, but he’s also being pursued by Alabama, Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee, Michigan State, and Texas A&M. One wildcard is Colorado. Not a defensive line destination, but Deion Sanders has the gravitational pull to begin to make it such.

Charleston Collins’ Recruiting Profile

Projections

  • Only two Rivals Futurecasts have been submitted, and both favor LSU.
  • On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has LSU as the prohibitive favorite to land Charleston Collins.
  • 247Sports analysts are split on where Charelston Collins will land. The most recent predictions from November favor LSU.

Highly-touted 2024 DL Charleston Collins lists Alabama as a finalist in his recruitment

2024 defensive lineman Charleston Collins listed Alabama in his top 12 on Wednesday. He visited Alabama for the Iron Bowl.

Alabama’s coaching staff extended an offer to 2024 defensive lineman Charleston Collins following a good showing at a Nick Saban Football Camp over the summer. On Wednesday, Collins listed the Tide as a finalist in his recruitment.

Collins recently took an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl. He was one of many recruits that were present for the rivalry game.

The Arkansas native is currently trending toward LSU, according to On3’s RPM. The Tigers are the favorite to land Collins at 96.3% likelihood. However, the Tide are pushing to land Collins. They have plenty of time to flip the script as he is currently a junior in high school.
