UFC 269: Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 269 odds and lines between Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight title bout on the main card, Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier meet Saturday at UFC 269 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC 269: Oliveira vs. Poirier odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The card can be viewed on ESPN+ with the early prelims at 6 p.m. ET, the prelims on ESPN2/ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET and the main card on Pay-Per-View starting at 10 p.m. ET.

Oliveira takes the walk to the octagon with a two-inch reach advantage, and he is great in the ground-and-pound game. Poirier is much better in an upright fight, posting 5.62 significant strikes landed per minute to just 3.26 for Oliveira.

The champ has a 2.64-to-1.50 takedown average, and 2.72-to-1.23 submission average. So needless to say, Oliveira is going to be trying to get the fight to the canvas as quickly as possible, while Poirier will be doing everything in his power to keep Oliveira in a toe-to-toe brawl.

UFC 269 Oliveira vs. Poirier: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Oliveira (31-8-0) | Poirier (28-6-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Oliveira has won nine consecutive fights, including a KO/TKO over Michael Chandler at UFC 262 in the second round. Three of his past five fights have resulted in KO/TKO wins, although his specialty is the submission. And he has only went the distance once in the past 16 fights.

While that’s all well and good, it’s time for POIRIER (-140) to get his strap back. He is a punch machine, and he is going to drop “do Bronx” in either the second or third round. Four of Oliviera’s losses at the UFC level have come via KO/TKO, and Poirier will add to the tally.

Over/Under (O/U)

Play a two-round block of POIRIER TO WIN IN ROUND 2 (+620) and POIRIER TO WIN IN ROUND 3 (+950) for a potentially nice payday. Yes, you will lose one of the ends, even if he wins in Rounds 2-3, but you’ll still be ahead by a good amount.

USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, May 18: Charles Oliveira takes lightweight throne

Not all that long ago, Charles Oliviera wasn’t even listed in the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie lightweight rankings, and now he sits atop it.

Not all that long ago, [autotag]Charles Oliviera[/autotag] wasn’t even listed in the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie lightweight rankings, and now he sits atop all of his peers.

In late 2017, after suffering a TKO loss to Paul Felder, Oliveira wasn’t in the top 15 of our list. He wasn’t among the three honorable mentions, either. But with nine consecutive wins since – eight of them by finish – and an astounding seven “Performance of the Night” bonuses, Oliveira has now ascended to the top of the lightweight list, while also making his debut on the pound-for-pound charts, as well.

Oliveira (31-8 MMA, 19-8 UFC) claimed the UFC lightweight title with his latest win, a stunning TKO over former Bellator lightweight champion [autotag]Michael Chandler[/autotag] (22-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC 262. Of course, those two weren’t the only top lightweights in action at this past weekend’s card, with [autotag]Beneil Dariush[/autotag] (21-4-1 MMA, 15-4-1 UFC) also scoring a decision win over [autotag]Tony Ferguson[/autotag] (25-6 MMA, 15-4 UFC).

Check out the new look of the 155-pound division in the latest edition of the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, as well as a few other changes made following UFC 262.

Kevin Lee vs. Charles Oliveira booked for UFC on ESPN+ 28 main event

An intriguing lightweight fight will headline UFC Brasilia in March.

The UFC’s return to Brasilia finally has a main event.

Lightweight contenders [autotag]Kevin Lee[/autotag] and [autotag]Charles Oliviera[/autotag] will square off in the UFC on ESPN+ 28 headliner. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie following an initial Tuesday report from Combate. The person asked to remain anonymous since the UFC hasn’t made an announcement.

UFC on ESPN+ 28 takes place March 14 at Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil. The card is expected to stream on ESPN+.

Lee (18-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) is riding the momentum of a massive head-kick knockout of Gregor Gillespie in November. At UFC 244, Lee returned to 155 pounds to take on the undefeated wrestler on one of 2019’s biggest stages at Madison Square Garden. Competing in front of president Donald Trump, Lee earned a $50,000 bonus with his finish, which was widely considered a “Knockout of the Year” candidate.

As for Oliveira (28-8 MMA, 16-8 UFC), the Brazilian will finally get a step up to compete against ranked competition. The UFC’s all-time submissions leader has won six straight inside the distance. Despite his winning ways, Oliveira had not been matched up against a ranked opponent until now.

In his most recent fight at UFC on ESPN+ 22, Oliveira knocked out Jared Gordon in 87 seconds. He’s won back-to-back fights by KO/TKO – the first two of his professional career.
