Commanders seek to interview Falcons QB coach Charles London for offensive coordinator

London has coached quarterbacks with the Falcons for the last two seasons.

The Washington Commanders need an offensive coordinator after firing Scott Turner last week.

Veteran coach Pat Shurmur is the only known person to interview thus far. Washington quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese is also a candidate for the position.

On Monday, it was reported that the Commanders were interested in Dolphins QB coach/pass game coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Now, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post, we’ve learned another name. The Commanders want to interview Falcons quarterback coach Charles London for the vacancy.

London has been with the Falcons for the last two seasons as QB coach. Before Atlanta, London was with the Chicago Bears for three seasons as running backs coach. Before Chicago, London was with the Houston Texans for four seasons, where he coached running backs.

The Tennessee Titans also plan to speak with London for their offensive coordinator position.

Falcons QB coach Charles London interviewing for Titans OC job

#Falcons QB coach Charles London is interviewing for the #Titans’ offensive coordinator vacancy

The Atlanta Falcons have been poaching players and coaches from the Tennessee Titans left and right since hiring Arthur Smith as head coach in 2021. It now appears the Titans are giving the Falcons a taste of their own medicine.

As reported by CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones, Tennessee is interviewing Atlanta’s quarterbacks coach, Charles London, for the team’s offensive coordinator vacancy.

London was hired to Smith’s staff after spending three years as the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears. During his two seasons in Atlanta, London has worked with Matt Ryan, Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder.

The Titans are looking for an offensive coordinator to replace Todd Downing. London would be a solid choice, and perhaps he could help develop quarterback Malik Willis, Tennessee’s third-round pick.

The Falcons have requested five interviews thus far in their search for Dean Pees’ replacement. Brian Flores, Al Holcomb and Jerry Gray are among those reportedly in consideration.

Report: Titans to interview Falcons’ Charles London for OC

The Titans are reportedly set to interview Falcons QBs coach Charles London for their offensive coordinator position.

A new candidate has emerged for the Tennessee Titans’ offensive coordinator position in Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach, Charles London.

According to CBS Sports Jonathan Jones, the Titans are set to interview London for their offensive coordinator vacancy. No date was given for the interview.

Along with London, the Titans have also reportedly requested to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and senior assistant and quarterbacks coach, Matt Nagy. We have yet to see confirmation that those interviews will take place, though.

Among his many stops as an NFL coach, London spent one season with the Titans as an offensive assistant in 2011. Since then, he’s served as a running backs coach at Penn State, and with the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears.

London just completed his second season as the Falcons’ quarterbacks coach under Arthur Smith, who was on the Titans’ defensive staff while London was in Tennessee back in 2011.

Falcons recap: Charles London to interview with Rams, Draft grades

Falcons quarterbacks coach Charles London is set to interview for the Rams offensive coordinator opening.

The Atlanta Falcons could be on the verge of losing another assistant with quarterbacks coach Charles London set to interview for another offensive coordinator vacancy.

In our Falcons Friday recap, we look at London’s upcoming meeting with the Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta goes in two different directions in two new mocks, and we grade the top 10 picks from the 2021 NFL draft.

Charles London interviewing for Rams’ offensive coordinator position

Charles London, the current QBs coach for the Falcons, is interviewing for the Rams’ offensive coordinator job.

Kevin O’Connell has been named the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, leaving the Los Angeles Rams searching for a new offensive coordinator. Aside from the other candidates that are being considered, the Rams are reportedly interviewing Charles London, the current quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons.

London began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Duke University back in 2004-2005 following a collegiate career at the running back position. Since then, London has climbed the coaching ranks, spending time with the Chicago Bears, the Tennessee Titans, the Houston Texans, Penn State, and the Falcons.

Before joining the Falcons in 2021, London spent most of his coaching career as a running backs coach. But just this past season, he spent his first year as a quarterbacks coach under head coach Arthur Smith, who was hired last season from the Titans.

Throughout his career, London has spent time with numerous players. Most notably, he was with the Texans when Arian Foster was running rampant in the league and he was a member of the Titans’ coaching staff when Chris Johnson was skating past defenders.

London will join Kentucky offensive coordinator, Liam Coen, and Thomas Brown — the current running backs coach for the Rams — as reported candidates that could replace O’Connell. Brown is also expected to receive interest from the Vikings for their offensive coordinator position, so there’s a chance the Rams lose him to O’Connell’s coaching staff.

The Rams don’t seem to be in any rush to name a new offensive coordinator as they continue to celebrate their Super Bowl victory. While Los Angeles could reach out to other candidates in the coming weeks, London appears to be someone they are interested in.

Report: Falcons QB coach will interview for Dolphins offensive coordinator

He’s been with the Falcons for just one season.

The Miami Dolphins have hired the next head coach of their organization, as they officially signed Mike McDaniel to a contract on Monday. Now, he will begin filling out the rest of his staff before free agency and the draft come.

According to Josh Kendall of the Athletic, the Dolphins will interview Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Charles London for the Dolphins’ open offensive coordinator position. London, 46, just joined the Falcons staff this past season after spending three years with the Chicago Bears under Matt Nagy as the running backs coach.

In London’s lone season as Atlanta’s quarterbacks coach, Matt Ryan threw for just 218.4 yards per game, good for 16th. With wide receiver Calvin Ridley missing most of the season due to mental health struggles, that blame can’t be placed solely on the quarterbacks coach or coordinator Dave Ragone.

London actually spent three seasons in Houston with Miami’s co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach George Godsey who served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator under Bill O’Brien.

Falcons QBs coach Charles London to interview for Dolphins OC gig

London, who was hired by Atlanta in 2021, previously served as the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears from 2018-2020.

The Miami Dolphins named Mike McDaniel as their head coach on Sunday, just a few weeks after the team’s controversial firing of Brian Flores.

It now appears McDaniel has his eyes on Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Charles London for Miami’s offensive coordinator opening, The Athletic’s Josh Kendall reported on Tuesday afternoon.

London, who was hired by Atlanta in 2021, previously served as the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears from 2018-2020. Prior to that, London held the same role for the Houston Texans (2014-2017) and at Penn State (2012-2013). In 2011, he spent one year as an offensive assistant for the Tennessee Titans.

The Falcons already lost running backs coach Des Hitchings, who left to be Virginia’s offensive coordinator a few weeks ago. Atlanta then named Michael Pitre as its new running backs coach.

Falcons name four assistants to coaching staff

Atlanta hired Charles London as quarterbacks coach and Frank Bush as linebackers coach. Dwayne Ledford was brought on as the offensive line coach and the team will retain Danny Breyer as an offensive assistant.

The new Atlanta Falcons coaching staff is coming right together. The team named three coordinators — Dean Pees, Dave Ragone and Marquice Williams — on Thursday. On Friday, four more assistant coaches came aboard Arthur Smith’s staff.

Atlanta hired Charles London as quarterbacks coach and Frank Bush as linebackers coach. Dwayne Ledford was brought on as the offensive line coach and the team will retain Danny Breyer as an offensive assistant.

Bush served as the Jets defensive coordinator for the final four games of 2020 after the team fired Greg Williams.  His 30-year track record as a coach will bring some much-needed experience to this Falcons staff.

London was the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears for the past three years. Atlanta already poached passing game coordinator Dave Ragone from Chicago on Thursday. London also coached for the Houston Texans and prior to that, at Penn State.

Ledford has served as the offensive coordinator at Louisville since 2018. He’s played but never coached in the NFL as an offensive lineman for the 49ers, Jaguars, Panthers and Browns.

Breyer, a former analytics assistant for the Buccaneers, joined the Falcons staff as an offensive assistant last season. He will be retained in 2021.

Report: The Bears are losing RB coach Charles London to the Falcons

The Chicago Bears are looking at replacing more than one member of Matt Nagy’s coaching staff this offseason.

The Chicago Bears are looking at replacing more than one member of Matt Nagy’s coaching staff this offseason. While the Bears are currently searching for Chuck Pagano’s replacement at defensive coordinator, Chicago is due to lose a couple of offensive coaches.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Atlanta Falcons are expected to hire Bears running backs coach Charles London. London would join new head coach Arthur Smith’s coaching staff as quarterbacks coach.

London isn’t the only coach the Falcons are taking from the Bears. Passing coordinator Dave Ragone is expected to join Atlanta as their new offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

There have also been rumblings of defensive line coach Jay Rodgers leaving Chicago for the Los Angeles Chargers, where he would reunite with former Bears outside linebackers coach and new Chargers head coach Brandon Staley.

That would leave the Bears with four openings on staff, including defensive coordinator. Chicago has interviewed several candidates already, including Indianapolis Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon, former New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher and Bears legend Mike Singletary.
