Final injury report for Chiefs vs. Chargers, Week 11

A look at the final injury report of the week complete with game status designations for the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers have completed their final practice ahead of their Week 11 matchup in Mexico City.

Check out the injury report with game designations for the Chiefs down below:

Player Injury Designation*
QB Patrick Mahomes Knee
DT Derrick Nnadi Elbow
DT Chris Jones Groin
CB Kendall Fuller Thumb Questionable
LT Eric Fisher Groin
LT Cam Erving Ankle
RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Ankle
DE Frank Clark Neck
WR Sammy Watkins Groin
RT Mitchell Schwartz Knee
TE Blake Bell Ankle Out
DE Emmanuel Ogbah Pectoral Out
DE Alex Okafor Ankle Out
RB Damien Williams NIR Questionable

* Out = Won’t play | Doubtful = Unlikely to play | Questionable = Possible to play

Nothing too out of the ordinary for the Chiefs here. Andy Reid expected Bell, Okafor and Ogbah to all be ruled out for this week’s game. Damien Williams is expected to join the team and travel to Mexico City, but the questionable designation suggests there remains a possibility that he doesn’t.

Kendall Fuller did participate in practice this week but was downgraded to a limited participant, so his questionable status suggests a setback or that the team may not be entirely comfortable with how he’s catching the ball in his return from injury.

The big story for Kansas City is the two starters along the offensive that will return for this game. Eric Fisher and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif will be back in action. It’ll be the first time that Fisher has played since Week 2 of the 2019 season. Mitchell Schwartz is also expected to play after being limited in practice all week. That’s going to be a massive boost for the Chiefs going into an important AFC West showdown.

Player Injury Designation*
LB Denzel Perryman Knee
DT Justin Jones Shoulder
OG Dan Feeney Shoulder
S Roderic Teamer Groin Questionable
DT Cortez Broughton Illness
WR Geremy Davis Hamstring Doubtful
OT Russel Okung Groin Doubtful
OT Sam Tevi Knee Out
RB Justin Jackson Calf Doubtful
LC Cole Mazza Illness Questionable
LB Thomas Davis NIR
OT Trey Pipkins Toe
LB Drue Tranquil Calf Questionable

* Out = Won’t play | Doubtful = Unlikely to play | Questionable = Possible to play

The Chargers only ruled out Sam Tevi, who had knee surgery recently. Their other starting offensive tackle, Russel Okung, was downgraded to doubtful on Sunday. That makes him an unlikely candidate to play on Monday night.

After returning to practice in a full capacity, Roderic Teamer is still getting the questionable designation. He’s been doing a good job filling in for Derwin James, who is currently on injured reserve.

Two backups are listed as doubtful in Justin Jackson and Geremy Davis. Long snapper Cole Mazza is still dealing with an illness, that’ll be an interesting one to watch.

Linebacker Drue Tranquil was a late add to the injury report with a calf injury. He originally had no game status but was downgraded to questionable on Sunday. He’s their most athletic at the position, so this is also one to keep an eye on.

Friday injury report for Chiefs vs. Chargers, Week 11

A look at the second injury report of the week for the Chiefs and Chargers.

Running back Damien Williams was excused from practice for personal reasons on Friday. Other than that the Chiefs’ injury report is status quo. That’s good news for LT Eric Fisher and RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

With a second limited practice for Mitchell Schwartz, monitor his practice participation on Saturday. It could be the difference between a questionable and doubtful designation for the right tackle.

Safety Roderic Teamer was upgraded to a full participant in practice on Friday for the Chargers. That’s good news for his availability on Monday.

Thomas Davis and Trey Pipkins were both added to the report on Friday. Davis had an absence not related to injury, but Pipkins is dealing with a toe injury. Pipkins was a full participant in practice, but it’s something to watch as the Chargers are already dangerously thin at the offensive tackle position.

Check back tomorrow for the final injury report of the week complete with game status designations.

Offensive and defensive players to watch in Chiefs vs. Chargers

We’ll be keeping an eye on these two Kansas City Chiefs players as they face the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs need a bounce-back win after a disappointing loss to the Tennessee Titans last week.

Beating the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night will go a long way in the Chiefs’ quest for a fourth-straight AFC West division title. It would keep them undefeated within the division and give them a win over each AFC West team.

K.C. is nearing full health after suffering multiple key injuries throughout the season and has a chance to pull it all together to go on a late-season run. The Chargers, meanwhile, are in desperation mode to keep their postseason chances alive.

Let’s take a look at one player on each side of the ball who can help the Chiefs knock off L.A.

Offense: TE Travis Kelce

Kelce is making acase to be a first-team All-Pro for the third time. He leads all tight ends in receiving yards (741) and is tied for first in receptions (56). He needs just 23 more receiving yards this season to reach 450 receptions and 6,000 yards faster than any other tight end in NFL history.

The Chargers have had success against Kelce in the past, holding him to just one reception in two separate games. He will certainly be a focal point for the Chargers’ defense, but the Chiefs’ dynamic receiving corps should open things up for him. K.C. is 5-1 this season when Kelce catches at least six passes.

First injury report for Chiefs vs. Chargers, Week 11

A look at the first injury report of the week for the Chiefs and Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers held practice on Thursday. Six players did not participate in practice for the Chargers and three players did not participate in practice for the Chiefs.

* DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related

The Chiefs started the week off with a helmet-free practice. That means today was an easy-going day akin to a walkthrough. Despite the light day of practice, the Chiefs listed left tackle Eric Fisher and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif as full participants in practice. It’d be ideal if both players were able to return this week after missing Week 10.

Mitchell Schwartz was the only player limited in practice to start the week. He was spotted wearing a brace during practice by Chiefs Digest reporter Matt Derrick. Schwartz will likely have an easy workload leading up to the game and end up starting barring any setbacks.

Three players didn’t participate in practice for the Chiefs. Alex Okafor and Blake Bell both sat out practice on Thursday. The team also confirmed that Emmanuel Ogbah had surgery on his injured pectoral muscle. He’s still on the roster so he needed to be listed on the injury report. Expect a move to send him to injured reserve before the week is over.

The only new injury that hadn’t yet been reported was a groin injury for Sammy Watkins. He was a full participant in practice, however, this makes his second soft tissue injury of the season. It’s certainly something to monitor moving forward.

Here’s the full injury report for the Chargers:

* DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related

The Chargers start out the practice week missing both of their starting tackles in Russel Okung and Sam Tevi. That’s going to hurt if neither player is available against the Chiefs on Monday. Kansas City could face a Los Angeles offensive line that is missing four starters.

Two players who didn’t participate on Thursday are dealing with illness and have ample time to recover. Monitor limited participant Roderic Teamer, as he’s been a starter in place of injured safety Derwin James.

We’ll have more practice participation updates on Friday.

Chiefs open as favorites over Chargers for Monday night game in Mexico City

The Kansas City Chiefs open as favorites once again as quarterback Patrick Mahomes is now back from injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs (6-4) will play the Los Angeles Chargers (4-6) at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Monday night in Week 11.

The Chiefs are reeling after miscues and misfortune, which cost them a winnable game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 10. For the Chargers, this is a must-win game if they are to stay in the playoff hunt.

Oddsmakers are showing renewed confidence in the Chiefs with the return of QB Patrick Mahomes.

According to BetMGM, the Chiefs are 4.5-point favorites heading into Monday night’s game. The opening money line is at -182 for Kansas City and +150 for Los Angeles. The opening over/under point total rests at 52.5 points.

In Week 8 against the Packers and Week 9 against the Vikings, the mystery surrounding the Kansas City quarterback situation left the Chiefs game unavailable for betting purposes. Now, with Patrick Mahomes having returned in Week 10 from a dislocated kneecap, the betting — and the confidence we’d seen in Kansas City most of the season — have resumed.

Last season’s NFL game planned for Mexico City was canceled amid concerns over the field conditions at Estadio Azteca. Thankfully, that shouldn’t be a problem this season with a new playing surface installed at the stadium.

Given the implications in the AFC West and the international stage set for this game, you can expect some theatrics, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Both teams will be battling to get back on track with their eyes ahead toward the postseason.

Chargers training in Colorado ahead of Mexico City showdown with Chiefs

The Los Angeles Chargers will work at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs ahead of Week 11 vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City.

[jwplayer rzKgNnfu-ThvAeFxT]

The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are preparing to take a road trip south of the border.

In Week 11, both teams will face off 7,200 feet above sea level at Mexico City, Mexico in a highly anticipated matchup at Estadio Azteca. The Chiefs’ opponents have a unique plan to prepare for the altitude change.

In order to get acclimated to playing in a higher altitude, the Chargers are taking a trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado. They will practice for four days at 6,000 feet at the Air Force Academy in hopes that it will give them an advantage against the Chiefs in Week 11.

The Los Angeles Rams tried a similar strategy in 2018 ahead of their Mexico City game against the Chiefs. The game was ultimately moved back to Los Angeles and the Rams stayed in Colorado as their home state dealt with wildfires.

Kansas City will stick to their normal weekly schedule and prepare for this game as they usually would a Monday Night Football game. Andy Reid is just old-fashioned like that. He spoke a bit about the decision to not prepare for the altitude last season.

“We were going to stay here for practice,” Reid said. “Not really. We did a bunch of studies and talked to people in the offseason and felt like it was best to stay here and practice. We really haven’t had a change much other than going to a hotel in Los Angeles, but other than that, not a lot of changes.”

Their decision to stay in Kansas City isn’t without its research. Meanwhile, this is a must-win game for the Chargers and it feels like they’re going to pull out all of the stops. You can catch this primetime showdown between AFC West rivals on ESPN on Monday at 7:20 P.M. CT.
