Staff predictions for Chargers vs. Titans in Week 2

Find out who the Chargers Wire staff is picking between Los Angeles and Tennessee.

The Los Angeles Chargers kick off Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Who is going to come out victorious?

Here is a look at the predictions from each of our writers at Chargers Wire:

Gavino:

After facing defeat to the Dolphins last week, the Chargers will look to get in the win column. Offensively, Los Angeles had no problem lighting up the scoreboard against Miami, finishing with 34 points. While they surrendered 36 points to Miami, the Titans don’t present an offense near as explosive as them. Ryan Tannehill struggled against the Saints, throwing three interceptions on the day. Derrick Henry could pose a threat on the ground, but Tennessee will be without Peter Skoronski, their best offensive lineman. I expect Los Angeles’ defense to bounce back and Justin Herbert to light it up against a thin Titans secondary.

Alex K:

Los Angeles has plenty of opportunities to get right on defense this week with an anemic Tennessee passing attack on deck. Limiting Derrick Henry’s impact will be a big concern, of course. But with Peter Skoronski out with an illness, the Titans will be missing their best lineman, and the Chargers have the talent to capitalize.

On offense, LA will have much more room to throw the ball all over the yard. Expect big games from Justin Herbert and Mike Williams if all goes according to plan. The absence of Austin Ekeler hurts, but Joshua Kelley played well last week and should be competent enough to keep things moving.

Alex I:

The Chargers are dealing with a banged-up roster after their Week 1 loss to Miami with key injuries to Austin Ekeler, Joey Bosa, and Eric Kendricks. Going on the road against a well-coached team in the 1 p.m. ET slot is never easy.

That being said, it’s LA’s overall offensive firepower that wins this game for me. The defense should snap back decently well with this Titans’ game. Ryan Tannehill looked lost against the Saints last week and this offensive line does not have the best ability to block for Derrick Henry.

This passing offense should be able to get going. The Titans allowed the second-most explosive pass plays in the NFL last week behind the Chargers. With Ekeler out, I see Kellen Moore firmly turning over the keys to let Justin Herbert cook in this one against a banged-up Tennessee secondary.

It will be close because of the Vrabel factor and the Chargers’ injuries, but the Chargers eek this out like last year’s Titans game.
