Chargers elevate two practice squad players for Week 1 vs. Raiders

With J.C. Jackson and Donald Parham doubtful, the Chargers promoted two from the practice squad.

The Chargers made some roster moves ahead of their matchup with the Raiders.

Los Angeles promoted tight end Richard Rodgers and cornerback Kemon Hall from the practice squad.

With Donald Parham doubtful with a hamstring issue, Rodgers would be the third tight end on the roster. Los Angeles signed Rodgers to the practice squad earlier this week.

J.C. Jackson is doubtful as he recovers from ankle surgery. That led to the promotion of Hall, as he provides depth in the cornerback room.

While he was a non-participant at each practice this past week, Jackson still ran and did defensive back drills. Brandon Staley said that his status won’t be determined until game day after testing it on the field.

Chargers waiving two defensive tackles

The Chargers have six defensive tackles on the roster.

Ahead of the roster cutdown deadline, the Chargers are waiving defensive tackles Christian Covington and Joe Gaziano.

Signed last offseason, Covington appeared in 16 games with three starts. He totaled 52 tackles, three tackles for loss, and a sack.

Gaziano, a 2020 undrafted free agent, appeared in 16 games with one start. He amassed 14 tackles, three quarterback hits and one pass deflected.

The roster moves came a day after DT Andrew Brown was waived.

That leaves Los Angeles with six defensive tackles – Sebastian Joseph-Day, Austin Johnson, Morgan Fox, Jerry Tillery, Otito Ogbonnia and Breiden Fehoko.

The Chargers will have until 1 pm PT to finalize their 53-man roster.

Chargers add recently-waived WR K.J. Hill to practice squad

The Chargers brought back a familiar face.

Not even 24 hours after being waived, wide receiver K.J. Hill was back.

The Chargers re-signed him to their practice squad, according to Pro Football Focus’ Doug Kyed.

Hill was briefly let go of for Los Angeles to make room for wideout/return specialist Andre Roberts, who was signed to the 53-man roster on Thursday.

Hill was the team’s primary punt returner, but the second-year player amassed just 6.8 yards on six returns through the first six games.

Despite losing his spot to Roberts, Hill’s special teams ability and insurance in case an injury occurred was still coveted by the Bolts.

Since 2020, Hill has ten catches for 103 yards while returning 18 punts for 124 yards and five kicks for 57 yards.

The Los Angeles Chargers activated two linebackers.

The Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 13 bout against the Patriots.

Los Angeles activated linebacker Asmar Bilal from the injured reserve and activated LB Cole Christiansen and nose tackle Breiden Fehoko from the practice squad.

With LB Denzel Perryman doubtful and Kyzir White still on the COVID-19 list, Bilal and Christiansen fill in for tomorrow’s contest. Earlier, coach Anthony Lynn said Christiansen and Nick Vigil could be the guys called upon.

Running back Troymaine Pope was added to the injury report with a neck injury and is questionable. Assistant Defensive Line Coach La’Roi Glover will be unavailable for Sunday’s contest. The reason for Glover’s unavailability remains to be seen.

Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 10 vs. Dolphins

The Los Angeles Chargers will be without running back Justin Jackson.

The Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the Dolphins.

Los Angeles signed running back Kalen Ballage to the active roster while placing Justin Jackson on the injured reserved. In addition, the team also activated cornerback Quenton Meeks from the practice squad.

When on the field, Jackson has produced positive results. Unfortunately, he has been slowed by a knee injury, which forced him to miss last Sunday’s matchup against the Dolphins.

Jackson is eligible to return in Week 13 when L.A. faces the Patriots. There’s a good chance that will be around the same time that Austin Ekeler will be able to return.

Ballage proved his worth in Week 9, rushing 15 times for 69 yards and a touchdown.

The Chargers will be without defensive end Joey Bosa, who was ruled out for the second week in a row with a concussion.

Chargers make roster moves ahead of Week 7

The Los Angeles Chargers get some reinforcements back along the defensive line.

The Chargers made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Jaguars.

Los Angeles activated defensive end Melvin Ingram and defensive tackle Justin Jones from the injured reserve. In correspondence, the team released defensive end Jesse Lemonier and wide receiver Jason Moore.

Along with those moves, L.A. promoted running back Troymaine Pope from the practice squad and downgraded tackle Bryan Bulaga from doubtful to questionable.

Ingram and Jones will likely be on snap counts since it’s been a few weeks that both have seen live game action.

It was thought that Bulaga would be healthy enough to return, but it appears he needs more time to recover from a back injury. Trey Pipkins will start at right tackle.

Chargers make pair of roster moves

The Chargers made two roster moves on Monday.

The Los Angeles Chargers made two roster moves on Monday.

The Chargers promoted cornerback Tevaughn Campbell to the active roster. The team also signed linebacker Malik Jefferson to the practice squad, the franchise announced.

The Bolts were in need of filling a roster spot and adding more depth to the cornerback position after Michael Davis was suspended for a violation of the substance abuse policy last week.

Campbell joined the Chargers back in September. This will mark the second time that he’s been called up to the active roster. Prior to signing with L.A., Campbell was with the Jets after four years in the Canadian Football League.

Below is the official team statement:

The Los Angeles Chargers promoted CB Tevaughn Campbell to the active roster, the organization announced on Monday. The Bolts also signed LB Malik Jefferson to the practice squad.

Campbell returns to the active roster for the second time this season. He was originally signed to the Chargers practice squad on Sept. 11, 2019. Jefferson has appeared in 21 games since being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2018 draft. He appeared in 12 games for the Bengals in 2018 and then played in nine games for the Cleveland Browns this season.
