Chargers rule out WR DJ Chark for Week 1 game vs. Raiders

The Chargers will be without one of their starting wide receivers.

The Chargers on Friday ruled out wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. for their Week 1 game against the Raiders on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

Chark, who is dealing with a hip injury, did not participate in practice this week.

With Chark sidelined, Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston should see increased reps. Brenden Rice and Simi Fehoko could also get playing time.

Also on the injury report were cornerbacks Tarheeb Still (hip) and Asante Samuel Jr. (shoulder). They are questionable.

Quarterback Justin Herbert (foot) and wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee) are good to go for the season opener.

Rookie fifth round pick Tommy Eichenberg (knee) is officially Questionable for the Raiders.

The Chargers will be without starting receiver DJ Chark for the game. Which means the starting receivers will be Quentin Johnston and Josh Palmer.

They also have a couple cornerbacks who are questionable, including starter Asante Samuel who was limited Friday with a shoulder injury.

Chargers WR DJ Chark misses second straight practice ahead of Week 1 vs. Raiders

DJ Chark is trending towards not being available this weekend against the Raiders.

The Chargers continued their preparation on Thursday for their season opener against the Raiders.

For the second consecutive day, wide receiver DJ Chark was not on the practice field. Chark is dealing with a hip injury.

Chark was signed this offseason to supply the offense with speed and someone who can stretch the field vertically.

If Chark can’t go this weekend, second-year wideout Quentin Johnston will likely see more playing time.

Cornerback Tarheeb Still was a limited participant for the second straight day. Still is also dealing with a hip issue.

In other injury-related news, quarterback Justin Herbert (foot) and wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee) were full participants. Herbert was added to the report because the league advised the team to add him.

Raiders, Chargers Week 1: Malcolm Koonce, Jackson Powers-Johnson added to injury report

Thursday brought the second injury report of the week for the Raiders. And two names were added to that report who weren’t on it at all on Wednesday.

Starting edge rusher Malcolm Koonce suffered a knee injury and was officially listed as limited.

With three drafted rookies limited the past two days, they were joined by second round rookie Jackson Powers-Johnson, bringing the total injured rookies to four along with top pick Brock Bowers, fourth round pick DeCamerion Richardson, and fifth rounder Tommy Eichenberg — all of whom are limited.

Powers-Johnson was listed with an illness, but he was already looking at not seeing much, if any, playing time due to missing all of training camp with an undisclosed injury. Which means his chances of playing in the season opener in Los Angeles only decrease now.

Not much changed for the Chargers. Wide receiver DJ Chark (hip) missed a second straight practice. Fellow receiver Josh Palmer showed up with a knnee issue, but he was still listed as a full participant. Only CB Tarheeb Still (hip) was limited.

Wednesday’s injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Raiders

The Chargers only had two players on the first injury report.

The Chargers had their first practice before Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders on Wednesday.

Here’s a look at the team’s injury report:

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday Game Status
WR DJ Chark Jr. Hip DNP
CB Tarheeb Still Hip LP

DNP: Did not practice; LP: Limited participation; FP: Full participation

DJ Chark and Tarheeb Still are both dealing with hip injuries. Chark’s issue appears to be more serious, as he was a non-participant. If he’s unable to play this weekend, it would likely lead to more opportunities for Quentin Johnston.

Chargers final Week 18 injury report: Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa out vs. Chiefs

Keenan Allen and Joey Bosa have been ruled out.

The Chargers had their final practice on Friday ahead of the Week 18 game against the Chiefs.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen, edge defender Joey Bosa, EDGE Justin Hollins and defensive tackle Nick Williams have been ruled out.

Allen finishes the season with 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns.

Guard Zion Johnson and linebacker Kenneth Murray are doubtful.

Cornerback Deane Leonard, LB Tanner Muse, tight end Stone Smartt and EDGE Tuli Tuipulotu are questionable.

As for the Chiefs, WR Rashee Rice, CB L’Jarius Sneed, WR Kadarius Toney, and offensive tackle Donovan Smith are out.

Chargers Week 18 injury report: Who practiced, who didn’t on Thursday

The Chargers had six non participants.

The Chargers had their second practice in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs on Thursday.

Los Angeles had six non-participants: Keenan Allen (heel), Joey Bosa (foot), Justin Hollins (shoulder), Zion Johnson (neck), Kenneth Murry (shoulder) and Nick Williams (shoulder).

Deane Leonard (heel), Joshua Palmer (concussion), Trey Pipkins (wrist), Stone Smartt (shoulder) and Tuli Tuipulotu (ankle) were limited.

As for the Chiefs, they had five non-participants: Chris Jones, Rashee Rice, L’Jarius Sneed, Kadarius Toney and Donovan Smith.

Chargers’ Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa unlikely to play vs. Chiefs

Keenan Allen has missed the last three games.

At his media availability of Wednesday, Chargers interim head coach Giff Smith was asked about Joey Bosa and Keenan Allen’s potential participation in Week 18.

While he didn’t write off their chances of playing entirely, he indicated that either suiting up is unlikely. Smith said the chances of Allen and Bosa playing are “slim.”

Smith said that Allen nor Bosa has “progressed” in their comeback efforts as they’ve expected. Allen has dealt with a heel injury since the team’s first loss to the Broncos. Bosa has missed more time after suffering a foot injury against the Packers. The Chargers activated his 21-day practice window two weeks ago, but it seems that we won’t see Bosa be formally activated for play.

With the Chargers being put in a tough spot following the season-ending injury to Justin Herbert, it always seemed unlikely that either Allen or Bosa would return without a potential playoff appearance on the line. The firings of Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco paired with the Bolts’ formal elimination from playoff contention effectively ensured that would be the case.

Smith was also asked about Kenneth Murray (shoulder) and Zion Johnson (neck) after both players missed last week’s game at Denver. He indicated that they’ll have a likelier chance to play depending on how both progress in their recoveries throughout the week. Per the Chargers’ official injury report, Johnson and Murray did not practice today. Jordan McFadden and Nick Niemann started in their respective places against Denver.

Finally, Joshua Palmer is working his way back from his concussion after missing the Denver game in Week 17 as well. Smith indicated that he is “progressing” through the protocol. Palmer was limited in practice today.

Chargers Week 17 injury report: Michael Davis, Kenneth Murray did not practice Thursday

Michael Davis and Kenneth Murray were non participants.

The Chargers had their second practice in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Broncos on Thursday.

For a second consecutive day, wide receivers Keenan Allen (heel) and Joshua Palmer (concussion) did not practice.

Cornerback Michael Davis (non-injury related/personal) was added to the injury report. He did not practice.

After being limited on Wednesday, linebacker Kenneth Murray was downgraded to a non-participant with a shoulder injury.

Edge defender Joey Bosa (foot), cornerback Deane Leonard (heel), offensive tackle Trey Pipkins (wrist) and tight end Nick Vannett (back) were limited for a second straight day.

Defensive tackle Nick Williams (shoulder) was upgraded from non-participant to a limited participant.

Chargers Week 17 injury report: Who practiced, who didn’t on Wednesday

The Chargers had four non participants, including Joshua Palmer.

The Chargers had their first practice in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Broncos on Tuesday.

Los Angeles had four non-participants: Keenan Allen (heel), Joshua Palmer (concussion), Khalil Mack (non-injury related/rest) and Nick Williams (non-injury related/rest).

Allen remains out with the injury that sidelined him for the last two games. Palmer is in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

If Allen and Palmer were to miss this weekend’s game, Quentin Johnston, Alex Erickson and Jalen Guyton would be the team’s primary receivers.

Joey Bosa (foot), Deane Leonard (heel), Kenneth Murray (hamstring), Trey Pipkins (wrist), Rashawn Slater (ankle) and Nick Vannett (back) were limited.

As for the Broncos, they had five non-participants: Baron Browning (concussion), Greg Dulcich (hamstring/foot), Samaje Perine (rest/foot), Courtland Sutton (concussion) and Dwayne Washington (illness).
