Chargers provide injury updates on Joey Bosa, Justin Jones, Asante Samuel Jr.

At Monday’s media availability, Brandon Staley addressed the status of a few injured players.

The Chargers suffered injuries to Joey Bosa and Justin Jones during the Week 13 win over the Bengals.

On the Monday after the win, Brandon Staley provided some further detail, and it was all positive.

Staley said Bosa is day-to-day, but he anticipates that he will practice Wednesday.

After being evaluated for a concussion, he was cleared to return to the game yesterday, but Staley decided to play it safe and kept him sidelined.

As for Jones, he has both a knee and an ankle injury and will be limited in practice this week.

There were a few key players that did not play altogether, which were Linval Joseph and Asante Samuel Jr.

After missing the last two games due to a shoulder injury and being placed on the COVID-19 list, it’s expected that Joseph should be at practice on Wednesday.

Samuel remains in the league’s concussion protocol, but Staley said he is approaching the end of it.

First injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Bengals

The Los Angeles Chargers had two players who did not practice and two limited participants on Wednesday.

Following the loss to the Broncos, the Chargers returned to work preparing for the Week 13 matchup against the Bengals.

Here is a look at Wednesday’s injury report:

The Chargers had two non-participants: safety Alohi Gilman and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.

Guard Matt Feiler and safety Trey Marshall were limited participants.

Samuel remains in concussion protocol, while Gilman continues to deal with his quad injury. Both player’s availabilities this weekend are in doubt.

Los Angeles is hopeful Feiler will be back after missing last Sunday’s loss to the Broncos with an ankle injury.

In other related news, nose tackle Linval Joseph can be activated off the COVID-19 list on Thursday. However, the team will likely determine if he will play based on how his shoulder is feeling.

Checking in on the status of Chargers OT Bryan Bulaga

The Chargers remain hopeful that Bryan Bulaga can still return at some point this season.

Offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga was on a clear path to a fresh start after spending most of his first season with the Chargers on the sidelines. But, unfortunately, that did not come to fruition.

After playing just two quarters in the season opener against Washington, Bulaga suffered an injury that landed him on the injured reserve.

It has been over a month since Bulaga had surgery on his core muscle, and the question still looms whether or not he will play again this season.

Head coach Brandon Staley said the team is still hopeful that Bulaga returns at some point, adding that they’re right towards the end of maybe initiating that time frame to get him activated.

Earlier in November, Staley said that Bulaga started working out on the practice field, but he still had a ways to go.

In the meantime, Storm Norton will remain the team’s starting right tackle. In 11 games, Norton has allowed 39 pressures and five sacks.

Bulaga signed a three-year, $30 million contract last year with the hopes of supplying sustainability. But considering how his tenure with the team has played out, cutting him and saving $11 million against the cap is a possibility.

The Chargers could then address the right tackle position early in next year’s draft or sign another veteran to fill the void.

Alohi Gilman

Asante Samuel Jr.

Not listed but will be out is safety Mark Webb, who was placed on the injured reserve with a knee injury. However, coach Brandon Staley said that he expects him to return this season.

Samuel was ruled out due to a concussion which he suffered in the victory over the Steelers. It marked his second one of the season, which is concerning and will be monitored closely.

If Feiler can’t play, the team will decide who starts at left guard between Senio Kelemete and Brenden Jaimes.

First injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Broncos

The Los Angeles Chargers had four players who did not practice on Wednesday.

Following their victory over the Steelers, the Chargers returned to work preparing for the Week 12 matchup against the Broncos.

Here is a look at Wednesday’s injury report:

The Chargers had four non-participants: safeties Alohi Gilman (quadriceps), Trey Marshall (ankle/hip), and Mark Webb (knee), and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. (concussion).

Guard Matt Feiler was a limited participant with an ankle injury.

Coach Brandon Staley said Samuel is currently in concussion protocol and is day-to-day after suffering his second one late in the victory over the Steelers.

Gilman and Webb did not play this past weekend.

In other related news, Linval Joseph (COVID-19) is not going to play this weekend against the Broncos. Meanwhile, Jerry Tillery and Christian Covington, who are both on the list, are expected to return.

First injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Steelers

The Los Angeles Chargers had four players who did not practice and three were limited.

Following their loss to the Vikings, the Chargers returned to work in preparation for the Week 11 matchup with the Steelers.

Here is a look at Wednesday’s injury report:

The Chargers had four non-participants: safeties Alohi Gilman and Mark Webb, nose tackle Linval Joseph and defensive back Trey Marshall.

Joseph missed practice with a shoulder injury. The team could be without starters along the defensive front, as edge defender Joey Bosa and defensive tackles Jerry Tillery and Christian Covington were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

After missing last Sunday’s game against Minnesota, safety Nasir Adderley, cornerback Michael Davis and running back Justin Jackson returned to practice in a limited capacity.

First injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup vs. Eagles

The Los Angeles Chargers had four players who did not practice and Justin Herbert was limited.

Following their loss to the Patriots, the Chargers returned to work in preparation for the Week 9 matchup with the Eagles.

Here is a look at Wednesday’s injury report:

The Chargers had four non-participants: cornerbacks Michael Davis and Asante Samuel Jr., safety Alohi Gilman and running back Justin Jackson.

Davis left this past weekend’s game against New England with a hamstring injury. Jackson left with a quadriceps issue. Samuel did as well for a concussion and remains in protocol.

If Davis and Samuel are unable to play this weekend, Ryan Smith and Tevaughn Campbell would likely get the starts alongside Chris Harris Jr.

A surprise on the injury report was quarterback Justin Herbert, who was limited with a right hand issue. Herbert sustained it late in the Patriots game when it came in contact with someone’s helmet following a pass.

How much it is bothering him remains to be seen and will be closely monitored the remainder of the week.

Friday’s injury report for Chargers ahead of AFC West showdown with Raiders

Friday’s injury report for Chargers ahead of matchup with Raiders

The Chargers had their second practice ahead of Monday night’s division matchup with the Raiders.

There were seven players listed, with four limited players and three who participated in a full practice. Not one player worked on the side during the practice portion open to the media.

Most notably, veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen was once again a limited participant with a sustained ankle injury; however, there’s been nothing to suggest that Allen’s status for the AFC West showdown is in danger.

The other three limiteds listed on Friday’s injury report include: cornerback Chris Harris Jr., defensive lineman Justin Jones and long snapper Matt Overton. Head coach Brandon Staley expected Jones to return to practice fully yesterday, but he remains listed as a limited player.

Edge defender Joey Bosa, who is dealing with a foot/ankle injury, fully participated in back-to-back practices. Safeties Alohi Gilman and Derwin James also practiced fully, an improvement from their status Thursday.

Inactive report for Chargers’ Week 1 matchup vs. Washington

Find out who’s in and who’s out for the Chargers against the Washington Football Team.

The Los Angeles Chargers are set to kickoff their 2021 season on the road against the Washington Football Team.

Here is a look at their inactives today:

Easton Stick

Joshua Kelley

Trey Marshall

Amen Ogbongbemiga

Tre’ McKitty

After being listed as questionable, running back Austin Ekeler is officially active and will play. With Joshua Kelley a healthy scratch, that should mean more goal-line touches for Larry Rountree.

Chargers OT Bryan Bulaga’s status unknown for season opener

The veteran right tackle might not be available for the season opener against The Washington Football Team.

The Chargers will head into the 2021 season with a completely revamped offensive line that features starters at four spots.

However, the only returner from last season, right tackle Bryan Bulaga, might not be available for this upcoming Sunday’s matchup against The Washington Football Team.

The status of Bulaga, who is currently dealing with a hip flexor issue, will be determined when the team starts practicing this week, according to head coach Brandon Staley. If the veteran can’t play, Storm Norton would then get the start at right tackle.

Signed last offseason, Bulaga was expected to be the heart and soul on a fairly inexperienced offensive line but instead, he spent the majority of the season on the sidelines – making 10 starts, only playing 37.87% of the offensive snaps.

The talent of Bulaga is there, but so is the injury history. If the 32-year old can’t consistently stay healthy, the team may decide to cut ties with him before he enters the final year of his contract in 2022.
