Highlight: Chargers QB Easton Stick extends the lead vs. Bills

The one-yard touchdown run extended the Chargers’ lead to 10.

Going into Saturday’s contest, many people thought the Chargers could utilize the quarterback run more often with Easton Stick under center.

Through three offensive drives on Saturday, that thought proved correct. Stick had tucked multiple plays with mixed outcomes, but it was clear that Los Angeles wanted to make use of their quarterback’s athleticism to make things easier for their offense.

It worked out early in the second quarter, as Stick kept a read option and walked into the end zone off the right side of the formation. The one-yard touchdown run extended the Chargers’ lead to 10.

Here are four matchups to watch in Saturday’s game.

Chargers’ Brenden Jaimes readies for first NFL start

The Chargers are down to their third center.

Brenden Jaimes is preparing for his first NFL start this Saturday against the Bills.

Jaimes will be the starting center going forward after Will Clapp was placed on injured reserve this week.

“I would say I’m more anxious just to get out there, play a full game and show what I can do,” Jaimes said, per the team’s official website. “More so excitement than anything. It’s been a dream of mine to do this and now that it’s finally here, I’m super excited for the opportunity.

After Clapp went down last Thursday against the Raiders, Jaimes came in and played 23 snaps. In 11 pass-blocking snaps, he did not allow a single quarterback pressure.

Jaimes, a 2021 fifth-round pick, has appeared in 34 games. He is a former tackle at Nebraska with 40 consecutive starts, and he also has experience at guard.

“It really makes me appreciate every position now that I’ve played pretty much every position on the O-Line,” Jaimes said. “Being able to play center, I kind know what everybody is going through. I know when to help who, when to help someone if they have this look or if this look is happening then I need to give help to this guy because it’s difficult.

“Just gives me a greater appreciation for everybody who’s on the field with me,” Jaimes added. “It’s funny because I started playing center when I was a little kid and now it’s full circle because I’m at the highest-level playing center. Definitely blessed to be in this position and super excited of playing Saturday.”

As Jaimes is set to enter the fourth season of his pro career in 2024, these reps in the final three games will serve him well as he could show that he’s a viable swing option with the ability to start in a pinch.

“It’s something that he’s waited on for a while here,” Kellen Moore said. He’s earned this opportunity just from continuing to be patient, continuing to develop as a center. He hopped in there this past game. He’ll finish this season off the right way.”

Why Los Angeles Chargers Will Win

The Chargers finally got over the hump with a win. It was harder than it needed to be against a bad New York Jets team, but after so many close losses, maybe that could be the moment when the dam breaks for a talented team with a whole lot of promise and potential.

Justin Herbert threw for 347 yards in yet another brilliant game, and now he gets to take his cuts against a Buffalo secondary that gives up just enough passing yards and first downs to be a problem. Herbert, though, has to be outstanding, because …

Why Buffalo Bills Will Win

There’s just no Charger running game. Austin Ekeler is pushing to come back, but that’s not going to matter a whole lot if he does. The Buffalo run defense has been an issue, but the Chargers haven’t hit 100 yards on the ground in either of the last two weeks, and the most effective weapon is Herbert taking off.

The team from LA has to play in around 40 degrees against a rested team at home.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Stefon Diggs, Buffalo
The Buffalo passing game will push for close to 300 yards against the Charger secondary, and Diggs is about to get targeted at least ten times – because it seems like he’s always targeted at least ten times. Actually, he’s had double-digit targets in three of the last four games and nine in the other.

What’s Going To Happen

The Chargers won a game … against the Jets.

The other win by the Chargers after the opener against Cincinnati … against Jacksonville.

Buffalo won’t win this easily, because Buffalo doesn’t seem to do anything all that easily, and the Chargers will lose a good, close game, because the Chargers always seem to lose good, close games.

The Buffalo offense will pound away late to seal it after getting the passing game going early.
