Chamon Metayer re-enters transfer portal months after committing to Colorado

Chamon Metayer is back in the portal just months after committing to Colorado

For the second offseason, a top-rated transfer tight end has re-entered the portal just months after committing to head coach Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes.

Last spring, it was Seydou Traore. This spring, it’s Chamon Metayer.

Metayer transferred from Cincinnati to play for Coach Prime in Boulder on Dec. 10. But after only 10 spring football practices, the 6-foot-5 tight end has decided Colorado to make another move, per multiple reports.

In his final season at Cincinnati, Metayer enjoyed a breakout year, catching 23 passes for 258 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games. The former Bearcat then became a much-needed transfer portal pickup for the Buffs, who had watched starting TE Michael Harrison enter the portal.

One day before Metayer’s re-entry into the portal, Colorado tight ends coach Brett Bartalone shared this quote with local media:

The Colorado Buffaloes have landed a ton of players in the transfer portal in just one week after the window officially opened.

This past weekend was a massive success and a step in the right direction for head coach Deion Sanders. One of the biggest transfer portal commits was tight end Chamon Metayer, who most recently played at Cincinnati. He now comes to Colorado to join a loaded offense that features several other talented pass catchers.

At Cincinnati, Metayer hauled in 23 passes for 258 yards and five touchdowns this past season.

Colorado picked up another transfer at a needed position

You were wrong if you thought that the Colorado Buffaloes were finished scoring commitments on an NFL Sunday. Only a few hours after Colorado secured a commitment from 2024 four-star wide receiver Dre’lon Miller, transfer portal tight end Chamon Metayer gave his pledge to head coach Deion Sanders.

The Miami native comes to Boulder following three years with the Cincinnati Bearcats. This past season, he hauled in 23 catches for 258 yards and five touchdowns.

The Buffaloes needed a big body to take up the middle of the field after Michael Harrison entered the transfer portal, and Metayer certainly fits that bill. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Metayer brings some needed size to Colorado’s offense.

Metayer should also represent another valuable red-zone weapon for quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
