Saskatchewan Roughriders at Edmonton Elks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Saskatchewan Roughriders at Edmonton Elks odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Elks kick off their CFL regular season with a Week 1 matchup at The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (CFL + on TV/Mobile) Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Roughriders vs. Elks odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Elks picked up a 26-24 in the most recent meeting on Sept. 16 last season, winning outright as an 8-point underdog at home. The Roughriders picked up wins and covers at home in the other 2 meetings.

The home side has won outright in 4 of the past 5 meetings, with the home team going 4-1 against the spread (ATS), too. The Over hit in the final 2 regular-season meetings in 2022, with the teams combining for 50 or more points in both outings.

Roughriders at Elks picks and predictions

Prediction

Elks 26, Roughriders 22

Moneyline

EDMONTON (-135) is worth a look in this CFL opener, as the home team was rock-solid in last season’s 3 regular-season meetings between these rivals.

The Elks have managed just 7 total wins across the past 2 seasons, but coach Chris Jones has a lot more to work with in Edmonton this season. He also will have a little extra incentive, as he faces his former employer.

The Roughriders (+115) enter the new season with the longest odds to win the Grey Cup, so it’s a perfect opening game matchup for Edmonton.

Against the spread

EDMONTON -2.5 (-110) is a good bet, as Saskatchewan +2.5 (-110) failed to cover the final 5 games against West teams last season, and it was 0-6 ATS to close out the campaign, while going 0-4 ATS in the final 4 road games.

The Elks weren’t much better, going 2-7 ATS in the final 9 against the West. However, Edmonton covered the most recent matchup, and this team looks to be ready to take a step back toward respectability this season.

Over/Under

OVER 45.5 (-110) is the lean in this Week 1 matchup between 2 of the weaker defenses in the CFL.

Edmonton was all about the Over down the stretch last season, cashing in 10 of the previous 14 games against teams from the West. The Over is also 7-2 in Edmonton’s past 9 games in the month of June.

Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes Week 1 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Ottawa Redblacks and Montreal Alouettes open their CFL seasons Saturday at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Redblacks vs. Alouettes odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Redblacks missed the playoffs last year, going 4-14 straight up and 8-10 against the spread (ATS).

Ottawa QB Jeremiah Masoli will not return Saturday as he is recovering from a knee injury that he sustained vs. the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season.

The Alouettes finished 2022 with a 34-27 loss as 4-point underdogs at the Toronto Argonauts in the East final. Montreal had gone 9-9 straight up and 10-7-1 ATS in the regular season.

The Alouettes signed QB Cody Fajardo in the offseason. Fajardo finished with 16 TDs and 13 INTs as a member of the Roughriders in 2022.

Redblacks at Alouettes picks and predictions

Prediction

Alouettes 30, Redblacks 18

Moneyline

The Alouettes (-145) should be able to beat Ottawa without its 1st-string QB, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the moneyline when Montreal should win by more than a field goal. Lay the points and/or bet the total instead.

PASS.

Against the spread

The new-look Alouettes with Fajardo at QB should be able to cover this short line vs. the banged-up Redblacks. Montreal is 3-1-1 ATS in its last 5 home games and it is unlikely that Ottawa will beat the Alouettes at Molson Stadium for the 4th straight time.

BET ALOUETTES -2 (-115).

Over/Under

The Over has hit in 3 of the last 4 meetings between these teams. While Ottawa may struggle to score, Montreal should be able to take advantage of a Redblacks defense that allowed an average of 30.7 points over the last 6 games of 2022.

BET OVER 44.5 (-105).

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers Week 1 odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers open their seasons Friday at IG Field. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Tiger-Cats vs. Blue Bombers odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Tiger-Cats finished their 2022 season with a 28-17 loss as 1.5-point underdogs at the Montreal Alouettes in the East semifinal. Hamilton had gone 8-10 straight up and 7-11 against the spread (ATS) in the regular season.

The Tiger-Cats signed QB Bo Levi Mitchell in the offseason. The 2-time Grey Cup MVP finished with 9 TDs and 6 INTs as a member of the Calgary Stampeders in 2022.

Tiger-Cats at Blue Bombers picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Bombers 26, Tiger-Cats 19

Moneyline

PASS.

The Blue Bombers (-200) should get revenge after losing the last meeting 48-31 as 6-point favorites in Hamilton Sept. 17. However, there is no need to pay the higher price on the moneyline when Winnipeg should win by margin. Lay the points and/or bet the total instead.

Against the spread

BET BLUE BOMBERS -5.5 (-105).

The Tiger-Cats should improve this year after bringing in Mitchell, but chemistry may be an issue early on in the season. The Blue Bombers re-signed many of their veteran players in the offseason and should pick up where they left off as arguably the best team in the league. Look for Hamilton to be underwhelming offensively as Winnipeg wins by at least a TD.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 47 (-110).

Winnipeg’s defense should come out extra focused Friday after losing by 1 point in the Grey Cup and giving up 48 points the last time these teams met. Hamilton shouldn’t be too productive offensively early in the season as Mitchell will still be getting adjusted to a new system. I’ll be looking to play Unders in Tiger-Cats games early on until they start to gel offensively or until the market overcorrects.

Lions at Stampeders picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 26, Stampeders 18

Moneyline

The Lions beat the Stampeders twice in the regular season and once in the playoffs last year.

Before the playoff matchup, the road team had won 7 consecutive games in the matchup. The road team has won 8 of the last 10 meetings of the 2 teams.

The Lions are the healthier team in the opener.

BET LIONS (+125).

Against the spread

The outright winner in the matchup has covered the spread in 3 straight meetings and in 8 of the last 10.

In 2022, the Lions were 11-7 ATS in the regular season while the Stamps were 9-8-1 ATS.

Because we like the underdog Lions to win outright, you get much better odds on the moneyline than on an ATS wager.

PASS.

Over/Under

BC was 8-9-1 O/U during last year’s regular season. Calgary was 11-7 O/U.

The Over/Under split 5-5 in their last 10 meetings and was 2-2 in their 4 matchups last season.

Being that this is the season opener, expect the defenses to be a little ahead of offenses.

BET UNDER 50.5 (-105).
