Before the Finals start, here’s a look back at the score, the stats and everything else you need to know from Boston and Golden State’s first two matchups from the regular season.

3 things to know: Warriors fall short vs. Celtics in thrilling duel between Jayson Tatum and Steph Curry, 119-114

Despite Steph Curry’s 47 points, the Golden State Warriors fell short against Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics in a thrilling battle, 119-114.

Riding a four-game winning streak, Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry registered his 10th consecutive contest with 32 or more points with an explosive performance against the Boston Celtics.

The seven-time All-Star point guard ripped the Celtics for a game-high 47 points on 15-of-27 shooting from the floor with seven rebounds and three assists. Curry caught fire from long distance, hitting 11 3-pointers on 19 attempts from beyond the arc. However, it wasn’t enough to push the Warriors’ win streak to five games.

As Curry continued his blistering pace, Boston’s Jayson Tatum answered the bell. With each haymaker from Curry, the young Celtics forward responded, scoring 44 points on 16-of-25 shooting from the floor. As Tatum dueled with Curry, the thrilling contest came down to the final minutes.

After back-to-back triples from Tatum and Marcus Smart, Boston clung to a two-point lead with just over a minute on the clock. While Golden State was able to tie the contest, Kemba Walker drilled a clutch 3-pointer from the top of the key to create enough separation for Boston to seal a comeback win, 119-114.

After snapping a season-high four-game win streak, the Warriors will have tilts with the Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards before ending their five-game road swing.

Juan Toscano-Anderson

With Kelly Oubre Jr., Eric Paschall and James Wiseman sidelined, Juan Toscano-Anderson has provided valuable minutes off the bench for the Warriors. After registering four points on 2-of-3 shooting from the floor with six rebounds, four assists and a steal in 25 minutes, Toscano-Anderson’s night came to a close.

In the fourth quarter, Toscano-Anderson tumbled over the scorer’s table after a fearless hustle play to save a basketball heading out of bounds. Curry made Toscano-Anderson’s effort worthwhile, drilling a 3-pointer seconds later.

Following his fierce save, the Oakland native exited the contest to the locker room.

Starting strong

Coming off four consecutive victories, the Warriors looked like they were headed towards win number five after an impressive first quarter in Boston. Curry sizzled for 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Kent Bazemore added six points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field to give Golden State a nine-point lead against Boston heading into the second quarter.

The Warriors were able to push their lead to as many as 16 points in the second quarter. However, a late 10-0 run from Boston clipped Golden State’s lead to only six heading into halftime. After stealing momentum late in the first half, the Celtics quickly tied the game in the third quarter.

Highlight of the night

During Curry’s recent stretch, the two-time Most Valuable Player has put on a clinic of highlight-reel plays. Against the Celtics, Curry added an improbable lefty jumper to his resume.

In the second quarter, Curry dropped in a circus-style shot from the wing with Boston’s Grant Williams hanging all over him. Following his ridiculous bucket, Curry was sent to the free-throw line for an and-1 moment.

3 things to know: Despite Steph Curry’s 38 points, late run pushes Celtics past Warriors, 111-107

Despite Steph Curry scoring a game-high 38 points, the Warriors couldn’t overcome a thin frontcourt against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.

With rookie James Wiseman sidelined due to a sprained wrist, the Golden State Warriors were featuring a thing frontcourt against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. It didn’t make things easier for Golden State when Kevon Looney exited the game in the first half after suffering an ankle injury.

While Juan Toscano-Anderson provided valuable minutes off the bench in the frontcourt, late offensive rebounding continued to give Boston second chances in a close game. After trading shots throughout the contest, the Celtics created some cushion on a 10 point fourth-quarter run. The Celtics notched 10 offensive boards in the second half to steal a 111-107 victory on the road at Chase Center.

Steph Curry and Draymond Green led Golden State with 11 rebounds each, yet no other members of the Warriors recorded more than three boards in the contest.

The two-time Most Valuable Player tallied a game-high 38 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field with eight assists and three steals to go along with his 11 rebounds. Curry caught fire from long-distance, hitting seven triples on 14 attempts.

After Tuesday’s loss, the Warriors will travel to Dallas for a matchup with Luka Doncic and the Mavericks on Thursday.

Celtics vs. Warriors: Preview, lineups, broadcast info, rookie watch, previous result, start time on Feb. 2

After two days off, the Golden State Warriors will welcome the Boston Celtics to Chase Center on Tuesday. Here’s how to watch.

After a rare two days off, the Golden State Warriors will return to Chase Center to host the Boston Celtics. While both teams are each two games over .500 on the young season, their rotations will look different on Tuesday night in the Bay Area. The Celtics and Warriors will be without key pieces for the cross-conference showdown.

For the Celtics, top-flight defensive guard Marcus Smart has been ruled out for the game after suffering a grade one calf sprain against the Los Angeles Lakers. While Boston will be missing a piece of the backcourt, Golden State will have a limited frontcourt for the matchup. Rookie James Wiseman will be sidelined for at least the next 7-10 days before he will be reevaluated for a sprained wrist injury.

Without Wiseman, Kevon Looney will be the only healthy traditional center listed on Golden State’s depth chart.

While Brad Stevens will be tasked with slowing down Steph Curry without Smart, the Warriors will likely have their hands full with the tandem of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Both Brown and Tatum are averaging over 26 points and five rebounds per game on the season.

Before the Warriors welcome the Celtics to San Francisco, here is how to watch or stream the contest and everything else you need to know about the matchup.
